Chapter 9

That run last night really did Sacha and me some good. We both needed to let out some pent-up energy. And true to his words, Blake called me about a half-hour before lunch. Which also helped in relieving a lot of the anxiety I was trying to deny I had. “You look tired. Is everything ok?” I ask, trying my best not to show my real question through my facial expression. What did you do last night?... “I didn’t sleep much last night. But you don’t need to worry about me. I’m a pretty strong and resilient wolf.” He answers with a smirk and a flirty wink. “Are you sure?” I inquire again, not fully trusting his words. Something doesn't feel right. I just know something's wrong… “Lana,” He says in a warning tone. “ I told you I’m fine and that you don’t need to worry. Why are you questioning me like this? Have I ever done something for you to doubt me?” My heart tightens at his words. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to” I reply, sagging my shoulders. “Hey, Princess, stop that frowning now. I know you only meant good. But seriously, I’m fine”  “Ok,” I reply with a shy smile. Looking over at the top right corner of my phone screen, I curse under my breath. “What happened?” He asks, his body straightening up in full alert. “I forgot to plug in my phone to charge it last night. It’s only at two percent and about to die! s**t… Sorry, I have to hang up.”  “It’s ok, princess. We’ll talk later” He says with a light chuckle, his shoulders not so tense anymore. “Laters” “Bye” After hanging up, I get up from my bed and open my drawer where my charger should be. “Where is it?” I mumble, rummaging through drawers after drawers, not finding it. ‘Didn’t you throw it out the other day?’ Sacha asks. ‘s**t, you’re right, the metal part broke again! Ugh! I hate stupid cheap chargers like that!’ Grabbing my phone from my bed, I make my way downstairs. Maybe I should make a trip to the mall and get another new one? All of my chargers always seem to break at that little metal part you plug into your phone. It’s so annoying! Mom always chastises me for pulling too hard on them and bending the cord a little when I put it down. I think it’s because they aren’t made right. “MOM!” I yell out, walking down that stairs. “Do you know where there’s a charger for my phone?” “Don’t you have one in your room?” She half yells out from the kitchen. Walking in the kitchen, I see her unpacking the last of the groceries. “No. I threw it out.” “Did you break another one already?” She asks, turning to face me, placing her hand on her hip, while narrowing her eyes a little. “Maybe” “Oh honey! You really need to be more careful with your chargers.” She says, walking up to me, shaking her head in disbelief that I broke another charger. “Yeah, yeah, I know,” I replied, rolling my eyes. Opening the kitchen's junk drawer, she rummages through it until she pulls out a cord. Taking it from her, I plug in my phone in the kitchen counter outlet and place it on the counter. While waiting for it to charge enough, I walk over to the pantry and fix myself a snack. “Sweetheart, I’ve been meaning to ask. I know your birthday is coming up soon, and that your father and I had planned to go to Westmount Pack a few days before your birthday. But are you ok spending your special day there instead of here with all your school friends?” I’m a little surprised she asked me this. She and my father usually tell me when and where we are going, just like a few years ago when we went there for the first time. But ever since I met Blake there, I always want to go back more often. Just thinking about seeing Blake in person and not on a screen, makes me smile uncontrollably with a light blush on my cheeks. “No, mom, it’s ok. I don’t mind at all.” ‘Neither do I’ Sacha exclaims, wiggling her brows. “Are you feeling alright? Your face is red. Are you sick?” She asks, placing her hand on my forehead. “NO, mom, I’m fine,” I say swatting her hand.  Should I tell her why I don’t mind going? Shaking my head, I put my attention back on fixing my snack. Once I’m done peeling all the fruits I wanted, I look at how much my phone charged. Ugh! Only twenty-seven percent! Could they charge any slower? Isn’t this supposed to be a fast charger block!? ‘I’m wondering, Lana, since we’re spending your birthday in Westmount Pack, do you think we’ll be able to spend it with Blake? And do you think he’ll get you a birthday present?’ Sacha says excitedly. ‘I don’t know, but I’m sure if he does, I will like it anyhow.’ ‘Do you think we’re actually mates? I know we can both feel the attraction, but what are your thoughts on this?’ She says, becoming all serious in an instant. ‘I kind of hope we are mates. I mean, yeah, I do feel the attraction to him. A lot.  Do you think I should talk to him about this? He is older than me. Do you think he might already know if we’re mates?’ ‘That is a possibility. Now that you mention it. We’ve never had that conversation. About the ‘what if’ with him. It’s true you were really young when you first met. Maybe he didn’t want to pass up as being a p*****t, knowing your age. Maybe he’s waiting for the right moment, like your sixteen birthday, to say and do anything about it?.” “Maybe. I guess we can only wait and see what happens then.’ ‘I suppose’ ‘What should you wear for that special ‘what if’ day?’ Sacha says, giggling. Holy hell!! What should I wear?! ‘A trip to the mall is needed. You need a new charger anyway, let’s go!’ She’s right. It’s the perfect excuse to go shopping for new clothes.
