And then there’s Smith. The only reason he wasn’t here was because he was—understandably—beholden to his job. A man in his position couldn’t have time off whenever he felt like it. It would be irresponsible and potentially risk lives. While she admired his ethics and nobility, she was worried about him—had been even before Chastain had mentioned trying to get in touch with him. She hadn’t been particularly happy about leaving him in London—especially when Chastain had agreed to head to Scotland, meaning Smith would be in the capital with no backup—but hadn’t seen any other option. It was all very well him being around other people while at the hospital, which might keep him safe, and him being bulletproof, which would undoubtedly keep him safe—but this was a Russian they were dealing with
