SOS....a cry for help

740 Words
“Ma'am where are you calling from?” the operator asked with urgency, as I'm sure he suspected that I may be passing out soon —1286 Parklane Street. I managed to respond. “Ma'am the operator called please stay on the line, can you tell me how many of you were shot?” With one final attempt at strength, I opened my mouth to respond “just me and……," I tried to speak, but the words didn't seem to be forming into any sound as I seemed to have lost even the strength to speak. I tried looking around for my husband and just as I was trying to turn around, the phone fell from my hand and I passed out. The only sound that was heard in the room was that of the operator calling out to me as I drifted far away into unconsciousness from the pains that wanted to tear my body apart. The operator made the call immediately, “There has been a report of a shooting of a husband and his wife at 1286 Parklane Street. Please hurry.” A few minutes later, the distant wail of sirens could be heard, and it grew louder as they were closing in on the quiet, luxurious neighborhood of Parklane Street. As soon as the officers arrived at the scene, one look told them that this was no random robbery but a well-calculated and planned-out murder attempt. The paramedics moved in immediately to ascertain how bad the situation of the victims was. “There's just one body here, the husband's body is nowhere in sight,” he said, “the wife …is still breathing even though her pulse is weak.” They quickly went into action to try to stop the bleeding, put her into the ambulance and took her to the hospital, while the police officers stayed around asking questions, trying to figure out what must have taken place. It was a shocking outcome as not one neighbor seemed to have seen anyone or anything, no fingerprints or evidence trail, two bodies had been reported shot, but only one had been found at the scene of the crime. The officers were baffled as the true story of the night's events remained a mystery begging to be unraveled….. 💫💫💫💫💫 SAMANTHA ….. “What was that sound, Audrey?” I asked. “I don't know, let me check,” she replied. She didn't hang up the call, so I could hear everything that was going on. My heart was pounding in my chest. I didn't know what to do at that moment as I froze, holding the phone to my ear. I didn't want to move an inch just in case Audrey needed me. I heard a man say “sign the papers now, and you both might live”, and at that point I knew this had to do with Trent's business, but who on earth would want to hurt him? Was Trent in some kind of shady business? —and then I heard the shots —3 of them, I heard Audrey scream and then —silence. “Where's the boy?” one of them asked. I held my breath, at that moment it felt to me like if I took a breath they might find us. Oh my God!! —my breath was coming in gasps. I didn't know for how long I had been holding my breath, but it felt like my heart would explode any minute. I wish I knew what was going on now, and then I heard one of them say. “There's no other person in the house. I've searched everywhere.” “Now listen to me, the other one said”, I'm sure he must be the leader of the gang. “If Howard asks, we will tell him we got everyone, including the boy” —I froze. I couldn't believe what I was hearing, such wickedness. These people meant to wipe out the family? At that moment, I knew what must be done. I went inside and packed a few of our things. We needed to leave town immediately. I'll find a way to get to Audrey and know the state of things, but I must act fast. I need help to do this, and I intend to get it anyhow. No one should find out that Max is alive. Or that he's a Sloane.
