The Beginning of Change

Winter's POV Kendra wants me to stay the weekend at her house. This should be fun, but I don't want to be questioned by her dad. He is the pack's head counselor. Her parents have always been fairly nice to me. Who knows what he tells the pack leaders though. As I am in my own thoughts, my phone rings and brings me back to reality. "Hello?" I say without looking at my caller ID. "Hey girl! So my dad said that you can stay the weekend. I just had to finish my chores first." Kendra says without skipping a beat. "Oh! Awesome! So how long till you get them done?" "I already got them done. Where are you at? I'll pick you up." she says chuckling at me. "Still in the town square. I will head over to our spot in the park. Meet me there?" "Okay! See you shortly." she sings out then hangs up. She is awful cheerful. She most certainly has something up her sleeve. Now I am slightly worried. I hate surprises with a passion. She knows this but never listens or cares. I head over to the park to our normal meet up spot. As I am standing there waiting for Kendra, I feel like I am being stared at. I casually look all around me but I see no one even looking in my direction. Weird. I have an uneasy feeling and as I start to fidget and squirm, someone honks. I snap my head in the direction of the sound and see that it is Kendra. I walk over to her truck and get in. Immediately, she notices something is up. "What's wrong Winter?" worry absorbing her voice. "I felt like I was being watched. It's not the first time either. I have had a strange feeling the last couple days." "You should tell the leaders. Specially with all the starnge stuff happening." she says to me. "Like they will listen to me. An orphan. They wouldn't even let me into the pack house if I wanted to go in." I spit back at her. "You need to stop being so glum. That is why I have something planned for us. Ready to go?" "Where are we going Kendra? You know I do not like surprises." "We are going to the mall! I planned for us to go get something to eat and go see a movie. Already cleared it with Dad." she says with a gigantic, cheshire cat smile on her face. "What the hell do you truly have planned Kendra? I know that look. Please tell me." I say pleadingly. "I know you don't like surprises but you will see!! Buckle up buttercup! Off we go!!" Kendra rolls down the windows and turns up the music. Our favorite song, Project, comes on and we both start singing out loud as we drive off. The mall is about thirty to forty-five minutes away. We spend that time just talking and dancing and singing. Finally we pull into the parking garage of the mall. We find a place to park, get out and head towards the mall. I spot Daniel's car. I look ahead of us towards the main doors of the mall and spot Daniel, Cherry and the rest of their clique.I stop dead in my tracks and start to turn around. Kendra grabs me by the arm and turns me back around. "Hold your head up and keep walking." she whispers to me. "I can't walk past them Kendra. I'm too tired of constantly getting picked on." "You wanted me to find someone to train you. I did. Now it is time to do a bit of changing on your part. Physically and mentally. Let's get in there and do just that. You got this. I am right here with you." she whispers to me reassuringly. I pick my head up high, stand up straight and we continue to walk into the mall. Daniel My friends and I just met up at the mall to hang out. We are standing there talking and my wolf starts to stir. Mate. How do I still feel that bond? I rejected that worthless orphan. I look out towards the parking garage and I see Kendra and that girl. I don't even bother to remeber her name. She isn't even worth my time to remember. They stopped to talk and I looked back at my friends and continued to talk with them. A few moments go by and her scent is much much closer. I look her way again and there she is. Wslking by us and not even looking in our direction. "Oh look everyone! It's the pathetic little orphan!" Cherry says in her usual high pitched voice. The group bursts out laughing. "Hey orphan, why are you here? You have no money." one of the members of the groups shouts. Everyone laughs even harder. "Kendra, why do you even hang out with her?" another person says. This girl is so feeble and weak. Mate. my wolf whimpers. "Shut up!" I shout at him through mind-link. "But she is ours." he whimpers. "No. She is not. I rejected her. She is not worthy to be the future Luna. She is an orphan." I scold him. "That's right. YOU rejected her. But I have not. I want my mate." he says, starting to get angry. I ignore him after that. What does he even know? Nothing! I watch as Kendra and that girl walk into the mall without even being phased by any of the torts coming from my friends and girlfriend.Something seems off with her still. I have got to get down to the bottom of this. I feel uneasy about all of this.
