(Jade’s POV)
I’ve only been here for about three weeks now, but it feels like I’ve been here for years. I truly did not know it would be this wonderful to get to know most of the pack. I get a few death glares from the unmated she-wolves, but I hold my head high, and don’t entertain their meanness.
I’ve been having strange symptoms for the past couple of days, and I really don’t know what it could be. Perhaps my body is still recovering? I mean, I’ve been in pretty bad shape twice now. Lola, what do you think? Lola’s been really quiet recently and I don’t know if it’s a good or bad thing. This is the first time she’s been this quiet. The only thing that gets her out now is being near Hunter and Luca. I’ve been feeling strange recently, more tired, slightly dizzy all the time. My vision blurs now and then, and I get killer headaches at random times of the day. My appetite, however, never fails me. I might actually be even more hungry than normal.
I’ve already gone to the pack hospital to get it checked out, but everything always comes back normal.
It’s about six in the morning, the sun is just about rising, and I’m lying in bed. Feeling a bit frustrated about being up so early for no reason, I tried to speak to Lola again.
Lola? Please talk to me, you’ve been really weirdly quiet. I mean, even for you, this is not normal. Is there something I need to know?
Lola doesn’t immediately respond, but she eventually answers. You will know in good time, Jade. We are special, and she goes quiet again.
Very cryptic. Hmmm, what do you mean by special? I know what kind of wolf you are, Lola. I know how special we are. Come on, aren’t you being a little vain right now? I love you and all, but really?
This is all I can say. The time will come.
Lola, what are you talking about? You’re freaking me out now!
Lola decides to go quiet again, and a sigh. It’s no use. I’ve been trying for a while now and I get the same response each time. So I don’t think too much about it and decide to go and take a shower.
After getting dressed, I had just finished drying my hair when there was a knock on the door. I know who it is immediately, and I cannot contain my excitement so I bolt to the door. I know this makes me seem a lot more desperate, but Hunter understands. He feels the same way, and no one is looking but us. We don’t find this embarrassing at all.
“Good morning, beautiful.” Hunter leans in and kisses my forehead.
“Good morning, handsome.” I couldn’t help but grab him closer to me and hug him as close as possible.
“I missed you.” I whined, still hugging him close.
“I missed you too. You know my offer still stands.” Hunter pulls away a little, and looks at me with raised eyebrows.
“Yes I know. I’ll let you know when I’m ready, okay. It’s a big step to take and I’m just only now starting to get used to pack life again,” I said. Hunter’s been trying to get me to move in to his room, but I’ve never shared a room with anyone in such an intimate way. I could hardly keep my hands off him, but I just wasn’t that ready yet. I can see it’s getting more difficult for Hunter too, but he understands and gives me my space. Every day I fall for him more and more. I’m pretty sure I’m head over heels for him already.
Hunter pulls away slightly, holding me at arms-length. I hated the distance. He looks slightly nervous and I’m not sure what’s going on. He’s flushed. I’ve never seen him like this. I can feel his nerves through our bond and it’s making me nervous too.
“Jade… I’ve been meaning to ask you this a while now, but it’s been busy at the office the past couple of days. I suppose, with everything that has been happening, this feels like the right time. Will you go on a date with me? Officially, I mean? We’ve never gone on a first date. I’m truly sorry about this.” He asks, looking at me intently.
“Hunter! Yes, I would love to!” I said excitedly. I’ve never been on a date before. “Where are we going? What should I wear?”
“Well, it’s a surprise. Wear something nice and comfortable, and be ready at six p.m. okay? I’m so sorry to do this but I have to head out early. I’m starting the training session this morning and then I have a ton of paper work to sort through. I’ll see you later, okay?”
I’m pouting. Heavily at that, but Hunter just laughs.
“Hey, this is not funny! Don’t laugh. I’m going to miss you… again! And I still need to know what to wear. You haven’t really helped me at all with my questions.” I said, getting more nervous at the idea that it was a surprise. “What if I wear the wrong type of comfortable clothes? Or I don’t wear my hair in the right style?” I say, getting more nervous as I ask the questions.
“You’ll be perfect, okay? I want you to relax today please, and really, whatever you decide to wear will be perfect, I promise.” Hunter said. “I’m going to miss you too, but I have to go right now, okay?” Hunter leaned forward and gave me an earth-shattering kiss. Smirking at me, he started to walk away while I stood there breathless.
I start my day with a cup of coffee, and too nervous to eat anything substantial. I decide on a slice of toast and make my way out of the kitchen, when I’m bombarded by two bodies guiding me back in to the kitchen.
“Stacy! Kirsten! What are you guys doing?”
“We have been given special orders, and we plan to follow through. Seeing that you don’t really like this type of thing, from what we can tell, we’ve decided to kidnap you for the day.” Stacy says, looking quite proud of herself.
“Girls, whatever you have planned, you’ll have to do it without me.” I say resolutely, but it falls on deaf ears.
“Ha, you wish, love. We have the whole day planned out, and there’s simply no way you’re getting yourself out of it.” Kirsten said, stubborn as ever. They started grabbing me by my arms and dragging me out of the house.
“Come on, let’s go!” Stacy says, pointing one arm forward in a somewhat marching position. I decided to give in. Who am I kidding? I won’t win against two feisty mates of gammas, their determination was really on point today.
‘Fine, fine! Stop pulling! I’ll follow okay.” I said, and we all started laughing, making our way out to the vehicle they already had waiting for us.
“Well that was easy…” Stacy comments and I glare at her.
“So… where are we headed ladies?” I asked them.
“It’s going to be so much fun!” Kirsten says, clapping her hands together.
Seeing that it was still early, and these two clearly spied on me and my breakfast this morning, they decided to stop for a proper breakfast this morning. I feel bad, because Ruth prepares a beautiful breakfast every morning, so this feels like a waste.
“Don’t worry so much, Jade. Ruth understands,” Stacy said.
“Guys, I don’t even have any money. I got here with completely nothing at all. I don’t feel comfortable with this,” I said.
“We kind of gave her our plans before you got there, so there’s really nothing to worry about. This day is meant to be stress-free, remember. Besides, look at this,” Kirsten says, taking something out of her bag and waving it in my face. I scrunch my eyes and move my head back to see what she’s showing me. It’s a black card. Kirsten finishes.
“Kirsten! What are you doing put that away!” I’m all but forcing her hand back down, and surprised because nothing they do makes them seem ultra-wealthy. It sounds really shallow when I think about it, but the thought crossed my mind.
“We’ll let you in on a little secret too.” Stacy says, looking a little too excited. Like someone who has devised the perfect evil plan. She starts clapping her hands, and jumping up and down, like a crazed teen about to meet their favourite boy band. “We’re actually going to get you ready for your date!” she exclaims.
I held my face in my hands, a little embarrassed. Not because of the date, but we’re in the middle of having breakfast, and people are looking at us. I’ve never been overly shy, but unwanted attention is not my thing.
“Sshh, sit down will you?” I whispered to Stacy, pulling her back down to her chair. She’s more excited than I am, and that says a lot!
“We’ve got so much planned! Seriously though, just chill out okay. You haven’t been stress free in a while, and you deserve this. We were over the moon when Hunter let us know his plans, and set us up with everything. Guess what? We don’t have a limit on that thing!” Stacy said, overly excited again. I loved her bubbly personality, but not under these circumstances. What the hell does Hunter do to own a card like that?!
“So this is Hunter’s doing? I’m going to murder him.” I said, with slight anger that was already dissipating. Only because it's Hunter’s doing. I’m beginning to give in to a lot of his requests these past few days.
“Don’t be harsh on him. He might have been a playboy… uh, I meant… well you know. He’s never treated any of the she-wolves this way. I mean not that it makes a difference. Ugh, I’m totally butchering my words, but I know that it means a lot to him. He’s never spoken to us about this type of thing, but he doesn’t want to mess this up, okay?” Stacy said. She doesn’t want to get in trouble, and I can see how genuine she is. I looked at her, and then at Kirsten. Kirsten is more the quiet type, so she’s not overly talkative.
“Fine! Okay, I’ll do my best to relax. Just… let’s not go over the top, okay?” I said to appease her.
“Yay!” Kirsten and Stacy say in unison, hardly sitting still in their seats.
After a long day, I was actually feeling grateful for the time I got to spend with my new friends. Wow, I can’t say I’ve had any friends while in hiding. I had the best day. After breakfast, we went shopping for an outfit. There was no way I was spending an unlimited amount of money. I decided on a cute little red dress, which sat about mid-thigh. It seemed too short for me but Stacy and Kirsten insisted that it wasn’t. It had spaghetti straps, and the back was bare. I won’t lie, I loved the dress, and it was just the nerves starting to take over.
The very friendly lady who served us gave me a matching pair of heels as well. It’s a beige kind of colour that goes really well with the dress. After, we went to the spa, and it was the most relaxed I think I’ve ever felt in my life. It was amazing. They had even taken me to the salon. I felt like a whole new person, with two amazing people to enjoy it with me.
I started tearing up at the front of the packhouse, feeling overwhelmed by everything that we shared today. The good kind of overwhelming though.
“Hey, Jade? Are you okay? What happened? Are you crying?” Kirsten asked, a bit panicked. Stacy rushes to our side, after hearing Kirsten.
“Jade? Did we do something wrong? Oh no, I’m so sorry!” Stacy starts panicking too.
“Girls, no, please… I’m just… so grateful to you. I haven’t had girlfriends in forever, and I had the best time with you today. I really thought I wasn’t going to, but it was exactly the opposite of what I thought it would be. Thank you.” I said to them and hugged them both.
Kirsten and Stacy sighed heavily in relief. “Wow, shoo… Thank goddess! We had so much fun too. But come on, you are running out of time. Let’s do your makeup and get you dressed and ready. It’s almost time!” Stacy said.
With that, we were laughing as we made our way to my room. Arm in arm. I’m so glad I met these two…
(Hunter’s POV)
The day was fairly busy for me, but the closer the time crept to six p.m. the more nervous I was getting. With the help of my gammas, everything was already planned and set, so I really had nothing to stress about. But I’ve never done anything like this before. Sure, I’ve been with a lot of women, but I’ve never been on a date. I asked Bryan and Justin, because they were already mated. I figured they would know how to go about this whole thing. I came up with the ideas, but they tweaked a few things. I wanted it to be perfect for Jade, so I was grateful for their help.
With an hour to spare, I decided to take a long shower and get dressed. I decided on denim jeans, a white shirt, and a comfortable but formal pair of shoes. My excitement was at its peak, and I couldn’t wait anymore. I decided on something simple for our first date. There was no reason to go over the top. This is the advice I received from my trusted gammas. They said that this was a classic go-to for a reason. It would be more intimate, and we could enjoy each other’s company and it’s a great way to bond.
I made my way downstairs, and I started pacing up and down at the foot of the staircase.
(Jade’s POV)
I’m officially ready. The girls have been amazing. I don’t even recognize myself in the mirror. “You guys, thank you so much! I don’t even feel like I’m the same person”. I started tearing up. Gosh, why am I so emotional? Being alone for that long, caring about more than one person is a lot to take in emotionally. I’m overwhelmed, in a good way. My heart feels full.
“Stop that, you’ll mess up your mascara!” Stacy whines, as I expected her to.
“Sorry, it’s just… I don’t know you that long, but I love you guys. You’ve done so much for me, I owe you one.” I said to them.
“Hush, you don’t owe us anything, Jade. This is what friends do, and you will do the same for us.” Kirsten said, giving me a quick hug.
“Come on, you’re ready. Let’s get you down there before Hunter breaks down your door. I heard him pacing up and down there.” Stacy said, while pulling me to the door.
I reached the steps, and looking down, believing now what Stacy said. Hunter is pacing and he looks mouth-watering and adorable at the same time. He looks as nervous as I probably do too. So I took a deep breath and started making my way down to him.
(Hunter’s POV)
I started looking at my watch, not out of impatience, but the nerves is getting the best of me. I look up to the top of the stairs and my breath catches.
The most beautiful creature I have ever laid my eyes on stands there, smiling down at me, and I’m almost at a loss for words with these emotions coursing through me.
I see Jade, and the world around me disappears. Her scent reaches me and it’s intoxicating in the best ways. She starts descending the stairs and my heart starts racing. The dress she’s wearing is already having an effect on my hormones. It shows off her curves in all the right places, and her hair is swept up, exposing the elegant length of her neck.
She reaches the bottom of the steps and I take her hand in mine. The electrifying tingles that spread across my skin is something I think I’ll never tire of. I know she feels it too, because her sharp intake of breath catches my attention, and I look up into her eyes. They’re gorgeous and call to my soul each time I look into them. I can see the flecks, and her dilated pupils. Our touch definitely has the same effect on each of us, and it’s already driving me crazy. I want her so badly, but I promised myself I would go at her pace. I drew her a bit closer, and rested my hand on the small of her bare back, and the feel of her pale skin put me in a trance. I quickly snapped out of it. This is our first date and it will be perfect. We don’t need any crazed hormones right now. Mine! Luca shouts just this one word and I fully agree with him.
“Good evening, beautiful.” I whispered to her. “You take my breath away with your beauty, love. Are you ready?”
(Jade’s POV)
Hunter leans down to me and gives me a slow passionate kiss. I can feel all his emotions in this kiss. I’m too scared to admit what I felt in that kiss, but I make the most of having his lips on mine. He pulls away too soon, and offers me his arm.
“Okay, are you ready now?” Hunter says, with a glint in his eyes of an emotion I can’t place.
“Yes,” I simply answered.
I wasn’t sure where we were headed, but we were driving for about thirty minutes before the car came to a stop. I don’t know the area, so I don’t know where we are.
It’s already dark out now, so I can’t make out exactly what the place resembles, but it looks like a small town. It’s beautiful from what I can see in the lit areas. Hunter gets out and makes his way to my side of the vehicle before opening the door for me.
He takes my hand as I step out, “I decided on something simple, so we’ll be having dinner here,” he says as he leads the way.
We reached a building that read La Bella Restaurant, and at the entrance there was a hostess waiting.
“Good evening Mr Williams, it’s good to see you. Are you here for your reservation? It’s been a while.” The hostess says, a bit too flirtatiously than I’d like, and she’s a bit too familiar with him to speak that way. It irks me, but I keep my composure. She doesn’t even look my way.
Hunter, however, doesn’t even give her much attention, which I’m grateful for, as he answers, “Yes, lead the way please.”
We reach a booth which seems fairly secluded, and he pulls out the seat for me.
“Thank you,” I said as I sat down. He’s fingers brush my shoulders and those damn tingles erupt across my skin. He takes a seat opposite me, and I take a quick look around. That’s when I realise we’re here alone.
“Did you book the whole restaurant?” I asked Hunter, as he passed me a menu.
“Well, I actually own the place, well, most of this town actually.” He says nonchalantly. I’m a little shocked.
“It’s nothing really, it helps keep things running for our pack. I have other businesses as well in these parts and internationally,” he says.
“Wow, so you’re like uber rich.” I say more than ask.
“I don’t think about it like that, I suppose. We’ve worked hard to build everything up, and we work together as a pack, so I don’t think of it as mine alone I guess.” he says, thinking to himself.
“That’s amazing… You’re amazing…” I said as the hostess made her way to the table. I guess she’ll be serving us as well. Ugh.
The dinner was spectacular. I don’t think I’ve eaten anything better in my life. That says a lot considering my background. My parents would have stolen the chef in an instant. The mood was changing throughout the evening, as Hunter would watch me eat, and I him. He’s eyes darkened as he looked into mine. I was getting aroused, as the air was getting heavier with the s****l tension bouncing off the walls. Even the hostess wasn’t a bother anymore, she basically became non-existent to us after we received everything we needed from her.
When we were done, we decided to go for a walk, enjoying the crisp fresh air. The town’s lights are twinkling, and the people, who are mostly humans, are bustling around us. Hunter pulled me closer to him, and I enjoyed the heat radiating off his body and seeping into my bones.
For a first date, this was more than enough for me. There was no awkwardness, and we laughed a lot. We spoke about our childhoods and shared some happy memories. We spoke about our dreams, and what the future held. I felt purely content by the time we reached the car to head home again. I understood why the Moon Goddess put us together. He was the other half of my soul. I was at home when I was with him.
The ride home was a different story altogether. The temperature and mood changed as soon as we were in a confined space again. Hunter was holding my hand while we were driving, and the heat coming from him was scalding. The same s****l tension from the restaurant was gradually building, and it was getting hard for me to breathe.
It was a fairly quiet drive, none of us wanting to break the silence. It wasn’t uncomfortable, but I was starting to feel nervous again the closer we got to the house. My arousal mixed with my nerves was putting me on edge. I don’t even know what I was nervous about really.
