Oh. My. God.
Did that really just happen? Did an incredibly attractive, smart, kind, successful man just kiss me?
I touched my lips, still trying to catch my breath. That was a hell of a kiss. No kiss in the history of kisses has ever been that good. My pendant seemed warm on my chest against my breathing.
I realized I was standing in an almost empty parking lot, staring at nothing. I got in my car and started the quick drive home completely lost in my thoughts. Up until the kiss, I wasn’t exactly sure of the vibes. I didn’t want to be presumptuous and assume that this gorgeous man was into me, but he certainly let me ramble on and on about anything that popped into my head. I groaned a little to myself as I thought about all the personal information I just blurted out.
I pulled in, parked, and walked to my apartment. Lilly was sitting on the couch watching something on TV. Her eyes snapped to me as I stood in the doorway. I closed the door and she turned off the tv and we stared at each other for a few seconds.
“He kissed me.”
Lilly’s hands flew to her mouth as she screamed. She jumped up from the couch, grabbed my hands and pulled me back to the couch.
“Everything. Now.”
So I spilled. I felt like I was still in a haze, as though it has been a dream. I told her about the restaurant (“Angelina’s?! Mae that place is fabulous!”), the project (“I bet you totally blew him away with your ideas.”), and the embarrassing amount of personal information I shared (“Well he was obviously interested.”) Then I told her about the walk to the car, how we didn’t release our hands when we said goodbye. How he got closer to me, and then how his lips closed in on mine, gentle at first, and then more intense, like he needed me.
Lilly sat quietly, eyes wide, looking at me.
“Wow. Oh my God, Mae. That… wow. I’m speechless and I wasn’t even there!”
We sat for a minute, reveling in the events of the night.
Lilly sat up straighter. “When are you seeing him again?”
“Tomorrow for lunch. We’re going to meet up to look at plans.” I completely forgot about that fact. I have to pick out another sensible yet sexy outfit. And really come with my A-game.
As if reading my mind, Lilly picked up a light blue blouse with long sleeves and a v neck - low, but not obviously low - a pair of dark wash jeans and gray heels.
“Damn Lilly, this is perfect. You have a gift.” I held the shirt up to my body.
“What are best friends for? Will you promise to call me after? I need all the details.”
“Of course.” I gave Lilly a hug as she gathered some of her things. “Are you not taking your wardrobe with you?” I said, gesturing to the piles of clothes strewn around my living room.
“No. Something tells me you’ll need these more than me. Also this is only a fraction of my closet so I’m all set.” She waved as she shut the door. I watched her through the window get into her car and drive off and then locked the front door.
Making sure all the curtains were closed I shimmied out of the dress and took out my hair. I pulled in a giant t-shirt and shorts and went into the bathroom to wash my face. I made myself a cup of tea and sat on my bed, just thinking how dramatically my day had turned out.
While there was a part of me that was already nervous about seeing Liam again, I also felt really calm about being in his presence. He had this affect in me, like I was totally safe and comfortable. I had never felt this way with anyone before.
I finished up my tea and cozied up into bed, trying to ease my racing mind. I couldn’t stop thinking about the way his lips felt on mine.
Man, that was one hell of a kiss.
