Chapter 13: The First Day’s Fallout
Jason stood motionless as the dust settled, his eyes sweeping across the group of men lying on the ground, groaning in pain. He had just taken down over 20 men—Aryan Singhania’s hired muscle—with ease. The other guards, who had been frozen in shock during the fight, finally snapped out of their daze and hurried toward him.
The senior guard, still trying to comprehend what he had just witnessed, approached Jason, his expression somewhere between disbelief and frustration. “What are you doing here, Jason?” he asked, glancing nervously at the men on the ground. “You can’t just—” He stopped mid-sentence, clearly unsure of how to address the situation.
Jason gave a calm, almost deadpan response. “He came to give me permission with his fists,” he said, his voice even. “But he didn’t have the right kind of permission.”
One of the younger guards, who had witnessed the entire thing, spoke up. “Honestly, I think Jason did the right thing. They weren’t going to listen. They were ready to fight.”
The senior guard let out a long sigh, his hand rubbing his forehead. “You took down 30 men on your first day. That might also be the last day of your job if Aryan makes this a bigger deal.” His tone was laced with concern, but also a hint of respect.
Jason, for the first time, seemed a little concerned, his calm demeanor faltering for a split second. He didn’t regret what he had done—it had been necessary—but he also knew that getting fired on his first day wouldn’t help him or his family.
Before the conversation could go any further, the sound of footsteps echoed down the hallway, and everyone turned. Ruhi and her makeup artist assistant appeared from her room, both of them shocked by the sight of the men lying on the ground. Aryan’s men, who had come to cause trouble, were now defeated, littered across the floor, moaning in pain.
Ruhi’s eyes went straight to Jason. “What... happened here?” she asked, her voice sharp as she took in the scene. Her assistant stood beside her, wide-eyed, clearly stunned.
The senior guard, looking a little flustered, immediately began explaining. “Ms. Ruhi, Aryan came here with his men. He tried to force his way in again without permission, and, well, Jason handled it.”
Ruhi raised an eyebrow, clearly not satisfied with the secondhand explanation. “I want to hear it from Jason,” she said, her gaze steady and focused.
Jason straightened up, meeting her eyes without hesitation. “Aryan came back with his men, trying to get in again. When we refused him, they attacked. I defended us,” he explained, his voice calm, as if what he had done was no big deal.
Ruhi’s expression remained unreadable as she processed his words. Then, after a moment of silence, she said, “And you took down all of them?”
Jason simply nodded. “Yes.”
Ruhi’s assistant gasped quietly, clearly impressed by the revelation. Ruhi herself, though more composed, looked surprised. She had known Jason was capable, but this level of skill was beyond anything she had expected from her bodyguard. She gave him a long, thoughtful look, her mind clearly processing everything she had just learned.
The senior guard stepped in again. “I’ll have the cleanup team come in to take care of the mess,” he muttered, clearly wanting to move on from the situation. He barked orders into his radio, calling for backup to handle the aftermath.
Ruhi said nothing for a moment, then nodded and turned back toward her room. “Make sure everything is secure for the concert,” she said, her tone calm but still carrying the weight of authority. As she walked away, her assistant followed closely behind, but not before sneaking one last glance at Jason.
There was a new energy in that glance, almost as if Ruhi’s assistant now saw Jason in a completely different light.
---
Time passed, and the crew was able to clean up the scene quickly before anyone else arrived. The situation was contained, but the tension still lingered in the air. Jason knew that Aryan wouldn’t let this go easily, but for now, things seemed to have calmed down. The concert was about to begin, and the team was busy making last-minute preparations.
The venue was buzzing with excitement as the massive crowd gathered outside. The noise of eager fans and the hum of the event filled the air. Inside, the security team took their positions, ensuring Ruhi’s safety from all angles. But something felt... different.
Jason, despite being assigned to Ruhi’s personal security team, wasn’t where he should have been. While the other guards were stationed around Ruhi, watching her prepare for the performance, Jason wasn’t among them.
---
Back at home, Jason sat on the couch, watching the concert on TV, a distant look in his eyes. He hadn’t told his family about the chaotic events of the day, choosing instead to give them a simple version of what had happened. When he had walked through the front door, his mother had been relieved to see him, though still surprised that he had returned so early.
“Done for today?” his mother had asked.
“Yeah,” Jason had replied, keeping his voice neutral. “Just a long day.”
He didn’t mention the fight, or how Aryan Singhania had threatened him. His family didn’t need to worry about that.
As Jason watched Ruhi perform on stage, dazzling the crowd with her energy and talent, he couldn’t help but feel a mix of emotions. Part of him was proud to have done his job well, to have defended Ruhi and his fellow guards. But another part of him was still on edge, knowing that Aryan wasn’t finished with him. Aryan was powerful, connected, and vindictive. Jason would have to be ready for whatever came next.
His family, oblivious to the storm brewing in the background, went about their evening routine. Jason’s grandmother was in the kitchen, humming softly as she prepared tea, and his mother was reading a book by the window. Everything felt so... normal, in stark contrast to the chaos that had unfolded earlier.
Jason sat back, letting the soft glow of the TV wash over him. He wasn’t sure what the next day would bring, but he was ready for it. He had faced far worse challenges before, and no arrogant celebrity or his goons would shake him.
As the final performance of the concert echoed through the TV, Jason’s eyes began to droop with exhaustion. The adrenaline that had carried him through the day was finally wearing off. He glanced over at his family, smiling to himself as they went about their peaceful routines.
Then, quietly, he slipped off to bed.
