'Hi, sweetheart. You answered the phone quickly for someone who's on crutches, didn't you? How are you feeling, anyway?' 'Hi, Mum. Much better, thanks. I was just about to make a phone call to get a taxi to work.' 'What? You're going to work already?' 'Well there's not a lot of point hanging round here, is there? I know I can hardly walk, but there isn't really anything else wrong with me. I'm better off at the office.' 'Well, Jack has literally just left. I'll give him a quick buzz and see if he can pick you up. Don't call a taxi just yet. Wait five minutes or so, and I'll get him to ring you right back, okay?' I nodded to myself and said, 'Okay. Oh, Mum…thanks for the flowers, it was lovely. Bye.' I put the phone down and waited. It didn't take long for it to ring. 'Hi, Jack.' 'G
