Spirit Sickness
As the days turned into weeks, there was a subtle but perceptible change in the weather. The nights had always been cold, but the days at least had been warm. Now there was a decided bite to the air, even when the sun was shining. Fires were kept burning during the day, and in the evenings extra woollen blankets were given to the girls. Some of the older Acllas began to murmur that it was coming time to make the long arduous journey back to Cusco, where the houses were more solid, the city more protected from the elements.
Teya wondered what this would mean for her? If she left Machu Picchu now, would she lose forever her chance to go home? Was the magic, or magnetic pull, or whatever it was that had brought her here, only in this place?
