“Gracey, he paid for everything,”.
I peered at the luminous green digital hands beside my bed. It read 4:25 am. It was already Sunday morning.
“Good morning mom, it’s 4:25 am here, couldn’t it wait till morning?” I complained.
“It’s daylight here,” she continued in excitement “guess what?”.
“Mom, seriously?” I queried “I just woke up and my brain is still rebooting,”.
“Just because you leave in New York doesn’t make you talk to me like that,” my mom queried.
“I am sorry.” I was fully awake now.
“Anyway, I won’t let you dampen my cheerful spirits. The Duke paid off all the debts,”.
“What?” I sat up. All my senses were awake now.
“I said, the Duke has paid off all our debts. Every single one of them. We are debt-free, darling, you can now come back home,”.
