Carter stopped beside Mr. Dubois and stared.
"Serena?"
The men beside me followed his gaze. Mr. Dubois lowered his glass. Nobody greeted Carter or made room for him in the circle.
I gave him no answer. In this ballroom, he was the CEO of a failing company scheduled for review. Our marriage had no place on the agenda.
I turned back to Mr. Dubois. "The Q4 projection is conservative. Once the subsidiary's management is reduced, my team expects a better yield."
Carter shoved through the group before Mr. Dubois could reply. Eve hurried after him, pale and wide-eyed.
"What the hell are you doing here?" Carter kept his voice low, but everyone nearby heard it. "I don't know where you found these actors or that dress. We're leaving. Now."
He reached for my arm.
