It was the second day after the guy showed up and it was time for dinner, though Dad and I hadn't really spoken with each other after the incident and I always chose to eat in my room to avoid being in a conversation with him, but tonight, I chose to eat with him at the dining since I would be leaving tomorrow because Dad wasn't able to come up with the million dollar and my phone left me hanging.
I chewed the carrot gently, my gaze glued to the plate, though I occasionally stole glances at Dad's face and he did the same. The atmosphere was awkward and oppressive but I didn't care, all I wanted to do was just eat, engage in a conversation if he started one, pack my bags and sleep tight.
“Cassandra,” He began, exactly what I had been waiting for.
“Yes?” I said, looking up at his face as I gently placed down my fork.
“I… I'm really sorry you have to leave tomorrow and it's not intentional, I didn't take his money on purpose. I was just young and stupid and greedy and I'm sorry you're the one to suffer my consequences, but you must know I'm also taking part in this consequence because I can't just watch my daughter leave. Your mother left two years ago and we managed to survive there before deciding to come here. Cassandra, I can't just…. I can't watch you leave me too, but I have no other choice. I'll make sure I find a way to get you out of this, I promise.” He explained.
“It's fine, Dad.” I said sadly.
“Really? But you're leaving tomorrow,”.
“He won’t do anything illegal to me right?” I asked.
He hesitantly shook his head, “Shawn wouldn't stoop so low to do something so stupid, but I can't tell, he's really cold hearted and does whatever s**t he wants to do but he has policies, he clearly does.” He reassured me.
“His policies? That's not enough, Dad. So he's gonna break the rules and do something terrifying to me?” I asked.
He sighed, “Shawn doesn't break rules,”.
I shook my head and raised a brow in confusion.
"He is really cold hearted and does whatever he wants." He said, his words a Stark contrast to his previous ones, ‘Shawn doesn't break the rules’.
Why was the point exactly, was this some kind of riddle?!
“What do you mean?” I asked for clarification.
Dad sighed deeply and then the words escaped his lips.
“He is the rules”.
I shook in fear.
“He is the rules,” I whispered, trying to understand what Dad meant.
However, the conversation ended there and I quickly stood and left to my room where I packed my bag. Though the words kept ringing in my head, I ignored them and went to bed.
...............
We arrived at his house and honestly, it was so stunning but I still didn't wish to be here. I wanted to be in Seychelles, at home with Daphne, watching the beautiful sky of Seychelles!
“What's wrong?” The lady that kept following us asked me, she was pretending to care meanwhile she knew what she said to me earlier. I walked a bit past her to catch up with the man; shawn. It wasn't as if I wanted to be with him also, I just wanted to be less with that lady than him. She was just a pain in the ass for some reason!
“Hey?” I said to Shawn.
He didn't say anything. The atmosphere twitched into something oppressive. I thought I was only imagining things earlier but honestly, this dude had a superpower. How would someone be able to control their aura?!
“Hey!!” I shouted as we walked into the stunning living room.
“What?” He finally replied.
“I don't know much about you,” I said, trying to be clingy. The plan was to be over clingy to frustrate him and be a pain in his ass. Though my heart was more than heavy since I got into the car with him and left home, I couldn't help it but try to frustrate him maybe he would take me back home at least.
“I'm Shawn. 35”
“I'm Cassandra, 19. Well…… That's a huge age difference, Daddy.” I said sarcastically, rolling my eyes. My eyes caught a glimpse of that b***h glaring at me but I ignored her.
“I'll leave this in her room,” She said, interrupting the moment.
“No, I'll put it there myself.” I said.
“You don't know your room yet, just let me show you.” She insisted.
“No, not yet. I'm in a conversation with Daddy as you can see. I'll call you when I need your help, you're the personal assistant right?” I asked.
“Boss, ask he-” She tried to complain but not until the BOSS himself cut her off.
“I'll show her to her room later. Just leave her bag there, I'll take it myself. You've done enough today, you should go take a nap.” He said.
“I- no, I would love to watch TV a little,” She said, coming to sit on the couch.
What the f**k! Why did she act as if this was her house which she built with her own money.
“Good for you!” I exclaimed obliviously.
Shawn led me up the stairs to my room, leaving only the PA in the living room.
I fought the urge to bite my nails as we entered my room. It was luxurious and in my favourite colour, blue, but I didn't care about that now. I planned the questions I would ask him as soon as we entered the room.
He went to put my bag in the walk-in closet and I waited outside the closet. As soon as he walked out, I threw a question at him.
“What now?” I asked.
He didn't reply, he only stared at me as usual.
“Why are you doing this?” I asked, blocking the way.
“Why am I-” He paused to laugh for a moment then resumed, “Why am I doing this? Ask you Father why he took my money!” He yelled.
I just wished I could dig the ground and bury myself, I thought this guy was cold earlier when he solemnly spoke but honestly he was colder, colder than I imagined especially when I looked into his daring ice blue eyes which held fire.
“It's just a million,” I said.
He chuckled, “Was that what he told you?” He asked.
I didn't reply, I was only hoping Dad didn't lie to me. I hugged myself, rubbing my arms gently as I looked down.
“Your Father is a bloody liar, and a bloody thief. He lied to you. He stole five billion dollars!” He yelled.
My eyes widened but I took a deep breath and replied, “Weren't you rich, why can't you just let go?” questioned.
He frowned. “Let go? We were best friends and he betrayed me, I want him to face the consequences, if he doesn't want to then he should pay the money back, twice the initial price.”.
“Do you realize I'm the one facing the consequences and not my Father. Also, it's not his fault that he can't pay you back. You can take Mum but not me, she's responsible for this!”.
He brought his hand to my jaw and raised it so I would look into his eyes, then he moved his face closer to mine as he leaned in.
Me, on the other hand, stared at his perfect face as if I knew what he was trying to do.
He then whispered, “I don't care,”.
