Chapter 14

I stood staring at the letter in my hand for several minutes before mind linking Thomas that I need to send a message as soon as possible to the council about the package I just received. He responds that him and Saphira are currently working on evacuating part of the town nearest the fire and having the rest of the town prepare in case they need to evacuate also. If the fire took the town we would have to prepare for a massive pack move. There is a deafening sound overhead as the aerial fire team flies over. A big man and a slightly smaller woman walk in dressed in fire gear. I walk up to them and introduce my fire chief Ezio and they introduce themselves as Inferno and Fira. They explain that they are the recent transfer taking over for Winchester who retired and look forward to working with us. Winchester had been a lead wildland firefighter for fifty years and was half human and half dragon. However the the new lead was full dragon and his mate was a half dragon half wolf. They said they loved being firefighters since dragons even half breeds don't get burned, making it easier for them to get in the middle of a fire and make rescues. Inferno says his team is part humans part were creatures and they come from all over the world some even are on internships with the local collages. He walks over to the map and shows where he sent most of his team after speaking with Ezio over the radio and marks the update he is currently being linked.

Van walks up to me and grasps my hand as we watch Inferno, Fira, and Ezio make more game plans and headway suggestions to get ahead of the fire before it took the town. I inform them we have begun evacuating the part of the town closest to the fire and the rest of the town has began preparing to evacuate just in case. They nod as I have an emergency link suddenly happen.

" Help I'm trapped. I went for a run this morning in my wolf form and i am now surrounded by a huge fire. I don't know where I am now. The pack trail is gone and all i see is smoke and fire!"

" Do not worry. Help is on the way. Do you remember the last trail marker you passed."

" Yes. The river with the waterfall near the cliff jumper mountain. but i lost the trail after that for about a mile."

" That will do. I will inform the rescue team of your general location."

" Thank you Alpha."

The link breaks and i inform the team leaders about the missing wolf. I explain it sounded like the pack runner Spyr who loves to run long distances and had me make a trail for her and any other long distance runners who wanted a good long run which usually consisted of at least a good day of straight full speed to make a full circuit. They nod Ezio explains he knows the circuit well and runs it weekly with the fire fighters. I explain were she thought she was and his face falls. Ezio says he ran that circuit yesterday and the area around cliff jumper was beautiful and the trail the entire circuit was well mantained. He and Inferno agree to go find her and they leave. Fira is left in charge of the fire as it spreads. It is now 30 percent contained and the wind has slowed which is good news for the firefighters. I ask her if she needs any help and she says just assist with the crew breaks. For about two hours I hear nothing from Ezio then he mind links me and tells me that I need to come check out cliff jumper mountain whatever made the fire destroyed the area. He was sending Inferno back to get me and Savannah and to drop Spyr off at the clinic.

Savannah and I had just walked outside after filling in Fira where we were going and see a huge red gold dragon land in front of us. He speaks through his hind link explaining its best to turn if its our first ride and Savannah declines saying Ivory wasn't feeling up to it. Inferno looks at Van and says you gotta let the cat out of the bag sometime softly chuckling as small tendrils of smoke curl from his nostrils. Does he know that Van is a white tiger or is it her scent saying she is a feline? I nod at Inferno and transform and Van climbs onto his back. Inferno grabs me around my middle and in one humongous flap of his wings he shoots thousands of meters into the sky arching back down and propels himself forward towards cliff jumper mountain in another flap. We are moving along rather fast and he is barely moving his wings for a couple minutes before he dives down to a large clearing.

After landing me and Inferno transform back while Van looks around rather sadly at the massive clearing we just landed in. I look at the clearing myself and mention that it should be a bunch of ancient trees however instead they are torn down. Inferno leads us off the side of the clearing down a cliff like spot and we find a small cave. Inside sits Ezio with a map laid on the ground in front of him and a very puzzled expression. Ezio looks up at us as we enter the cave and says whatever made that clearing is probably the same thing that crushed the car engine on Saturday. I agree and explain that the fire was started on purpose and I have proof that I will be sharing with the council once the fire is under control. Suddenly I am mind linked by my guards that some dragons suddenly teleported above the manor however just as fast as the guards warn me so has Bathier.

" Alpha! Dragons have suddenly teleported over the manor!"

"Alpha Alex do not be alarmed by the dragons they are the fire brigade and have special water magic that will help wrap up the forest fire. Saphira messaged me about the fire and asked if I could send some help. I obliged for my beautiful daughter and her new family. Keep me posted my future Alpha King."

Van taps my shoulder asking if I am alright and I tell her my guards had informed me of some dragons that had just teleported above the manor then Bathier linked me to explain that Saphira had asked him to send some help to battle the fire and he sent the fire brigade which was water magic dragons. I tell her that I was glad that Bathier did that since the size and wind would of made it impossible to get the fire contained much more. Then i explained that I wanted to protect the humans who had worked with the pack for so long they could be counted as pack members themselves and even makes sure the pack is invited to all of their town events. Werewolves coexisting with humans like this pack does was rare and we always try to help each other despite our differences. She nods and her expression changes then her eyes shift and my beautiful mate sprints off into the woods. I turn and follow her as I hear

Ezio and Inferno chase after us. Where ever Van and Ivory were heading we were gonna be there with her by her side despite our differences.

We come out to a small clearing and see a huge creature standing there almost half the size of the trees around it. It had feathered wings, a scaled head and a fur covered body with talons attached to wolf like paws. Its head turns to face us and it lets out a bone chilling hissing howl before shooting flames out of its mouth straight at us. We dodge out of the way in the nick of time all except Inferno who blows a flame of his own out of his mouth canceling the fire out. What was this creature? Was this what the government had sent to start the fire or was this the creature that had attacked the cars on Saturday will we be able to find out. Maybe our new friend can help answer that question first we needed to get this fire under control and beat this creature.
