Gabby’s parting words echo in my mind as Michael and I step through the golden door into the shadowy tunnel.
Stay safe… from what? What exactly is hunting us… or me? That boy from the lighthouse? Or something else… something worse?
The tunnel’s ceiling is just high enough for both of us to stand up straight without crouching, even Michael, who is at least a foot taller than me. It’s narrow enough however that if I outstretched each of my arms, I’d definitely touch the sides of the tunnel.
It’s lucky I’m not claustrophobic.
Gabby has positioned herself in front of the tunnel's entrance outside, guarding the way.
Moonlight is still streaming in through the giant golden door, and I dread the complete darkness we’ll be cast into once it closes behind us.
