“How far is Old Taylor Road to the lake?” “Just two miles. Mainly uphill. Old Taylor is more like a footpath than a road anymore,” Patrick said. Michaelene smiled at him radiantly. “Well, this ought to be fun,” she said. “Let’s go.” They got out of the car and retrieved their things from the car’s trunk. When they were ready, Patrick pressed his key fob, his vehicle locking with a reassuring beep. Each of them had a backpack, Patrick’s being somewhat heavier, as his included the picnic blanket and some other bulky items, like food and drink. Michaelene carried her cannabis pen in her backpack, along with other things she liked keeping at hand. She had paid top dollar for one of the newest generation pens from Lenny’s Dispensary on Bay Street, and it had fast become her preferred inges
