Chapter 2: Love Hidden Behind Harsh Words Rai's mother loved her in her own way. She taught Rai how to cook simple meals, sweep the floor, wash clothes, and care for the small home. Every lesson was meant to prepare her for life. But life had made her mother tired and overwhelmed. On difficult days, when there wasn't enough food or money, her frustration spilled over onto Rai. "Why don't you listen?" her mother cried. "You never think about your future." Rai stood silently, her eyes fixed on the ground. "I... I'm trying, Maa," she whispered. Her mother sighed deeply. "Then show me. Don't waste your life." From that day on, Rai woke up before sunrise. She swept the house, fetched water, washed dishes, and helped with every chore she could. Still, she often felt that nothing she did was enough. One evening, after finishing all the work, Rai sat beside her mother. "Maa... are you proud of me?" Her mother was silent for a long moment. "I just want you to have a better life than mine," she finally said, her voice heavy with worry. Rai nodded, but inside she still wondered if she would ever hear the words she longed for: "I'm proud of you." That night, as she looked at the stars through the broken roof, Rai made a promise to herself. "One day, I'll become someone my family can smile about... even if today they don't understand me."
