“You! Why are you here? Are you the boss?” Emily blurted out, eyes wide.
Jackson turned slowly. “Yes. I am.”
Emily froze a little, realizing what she just said.
“Sir… I’m here for an interview,” she corrected quickly, voice softer now.
Jackson only nodded once.“I’ll send someone for you.”
Then he walked away like nothing happened.
Camille showed up not long after.
“Come with me,” she said, not even smiling.
Emily followed her quietly, already feeling small in that big building.
Inside the office, Camille sat down and looked at her.
“So… what can you do?”
“I can clean. Anything. I just need a job,” Emily said quickly, almost desperate.
Camille leaned back in her chair.
“We’re done hiring.”
Emily blinked. “Please… I really need this job.”
“Come back next month,” Camille said flatly, already losing interest.
Emily lowered her head. “Okay… thank you.” She left.
But upstairs, Jackson had seen everything.
He stood by the window, watching her walk out slowly like the world had already beaten her down.
Something about it didn’t sit right with him.
He picked up his phone.
“Give her the job,” he said.No explanation.
Days passed.
Emily worked quietly. She didn’t talk much. Didn’t complain. Just did her job and kept her head down.
But Jackson… started noticing her more than he should, obviously.
Just small things.
The way she never asked for help even when she clearly needed it.
The way she smiled a little even when people ignored her.
Camille noticed too. And it started to bother her.
One evening, Emily was walking home.
The street was quiet
Footsteps were behind her, she turned but a man grabbed her arm.
“Let go of me!” she shouted, struggling.
Before things could get worse, a hard punch landed on the man’s face.
He fell back instantly. Emily’s heart jumped.
Jackson stood there. Cold face, Sharp eyes.
“How dare you touch her?” he said.
The man ran as fast as he could with blood flowing on his forehead
Emily just stood there, breathing hard.
“…Thank you, sir,” she said but Jackson didn’t answer right away.
“Get in the car.” he said
“I’m fine, I can go” she replied
“I said get in.” Jackson snapped.
She stopped arguing, he opened the car for her then, Inside the car, it was quiet.
Emily kept stealing small glances at him but quickly looked away.
“You’ll stay at my house tonight,” he said suddenly.
Emily blinked. “Sir?”
“It’s not safe.”
That was all. No room for argument.
At the mansion, his father saw her.
“Who is she?” he asked sharply.
“Staff,” Jackson replied.
That night, Emily couldn’t sleep. The place was too big, too quiet.
She kept thinking about how someone like him… even bothered to stop for her.
It didn’t make sense.
The next morning, she mistakenly opened his room door.
And froze.
“Oh my God I’m sorry! I didn’t know!” she said quickly, turning away.
Jackson sighed. Not angry… I'm just tired.
“Wait outside,” he said.
Days later, she got sick and didn’t come to work.
Jackson found out late.
And for the first time, he actually looked… unsettled.
“Where is she?” he asked Camille.
“At home, I think.” He left immediately.
At Dr. Elise’s place, Emily looked weak when she came out.
Jackson just stared for a second.
“You should rest properly,” he said.
“I’m fine,” she lied.
But he didn’t argue, he just left after a while.
The next day, she came back to work.
He was already there waiting. “You’re late,” he said.
Emily lowered her head. “Sorry, sir.”
Camille saw it, the way he stood too close.
The way he looked at her for too long. Something inside her snapped quietly.
Later, Camille confronted Emily.
She pulled her hair.
“Stay away from him!” she snapped.
Emily was shocked. “I didn’t do anything.” “I don't understand what you are talking about.”
But Camille slapped her before she could finish. “Stop acting innocent!”
Emily left with tears in her eyes.
That night, Jackson’s father gave him an ultimatum.
“Get married in two days or I will get you married myself.”
Jackson didn’t even look bothered.
“I’ll handle it.” He called Mrs. Morgan.
“Bring Emily to the mansion.” Emily came the next day, confused.
Jackson handed her a paper. “Read it.”
Her hands shook. “What… is this?”
“Contract marriage,” he said simply.
Emily looked up. “Why me?”
“My father wants me to get married before he could hand over the company to me, it's very urgent and I thought you are suitable for the job”
Emily paused for a while, “I don't think I can do these, I mean..
“You aren't doing it for free, so why are you refusing?”
“She smiled, it's not about the money sir, it's all about my dignity and respect. Imagine pretending to be your wife. For how long,”
Jackson exhaled slowly, “OK no problem,” he said and took the contract paper.
At Dr Elise house where Emily lives at night she sat down on the bed, thinking about the offer she was given “I need money at this moment but can't accept to be a contract wife,” she thought as she looked at the wall in her room.
Three days later, Emily picked up her phone and called the boss. “I am ready,” she said nervously.
“Meet me at the café,” said Jackson.
At the Café, the contract marriage book of rules and regulations was handed over to Emily.
Emily’s hands shook as she read it.
“You’ll be well compensated for cars, money, and luxury items,” Jackson said calmly.
After a long pause, Emily signed the document.
“You may leave. Come back tomorrow,” he said.
The next day, Emily returned to the mansion, amazed by its beauty.
Mrs. Morgan Stanley approached her. “Miss, it’s time to change your outfit.”
“You can call me Emily,” she said softly.
While Morgan styled her, Emily asked, “Why did Mr. Jackson choose me to act as his wife?”
“Mr. Jackson has never loved any woman. His father forced him to marry before handing over the company,” Morgan explained.
“So I’m just a tool,” Emily murmured sadly.
Emily stepped out wearing a diamond dress and expensive jewelry. Jackson stood up when he saw her.
“You look beautiful,” he said.
“Thank you, Mr. Jackson,” she replied.
They met his father.
“Dad, Emily and I are in love,” Jackson announced.
Mr. Sebastian looked
shocked. “You? In love?”
“Please introduce yourself,” he said to Emily.
“My name is Emily Rose.”
“What do you do for a living?”
“I’m a cleaner. I lost my family when I was young,” she said quietly
“This is good news
but not with this woman,” Mr. Sebastian snapped.
“You should marry Camille instead.”
Emily felt weak and almost fainted.
“Father, we’re already married. We had a court wedding,” Jackson said, showing the certificate.
“She’s not good enough for you. She has no status,” his father argued.
“I have the money. I can take care of her,” Jackson replied.
But no matter how hard Jackson tried, his father refused to accept Emily.
Jackson asked Camille to organize an introduction party. By afternoon, the hall was full of guests.
Emily stood quietly when a familiar voice spoke.
“Isn’t that Emily?” Vivian said.
Daniel frowned. “What is that fool doing here?”
He walked to her. “How did you get in here?” he asked angrily.
“Are you here to seduce a rich man?”
Emily kept quiet.
Vivian looked at her dress.
“Who gave you such an expensive dress?”
“Ooh!.. she must have stolen it,” Daniel said and pushed her to the floor.
People gasped.
Before anyone could react, a punch landed on Daniel’s face.
Jackson stood in front of Emily, his voice cold.
“If you touch her again, I will shut down your company.”
Daniel wiped his mouth and laughed.
“So this is the man behind you now?” he said.
Jackson looked at Emily, then at Daniel.
“Since you’re all here,” Jackson said slowly,
“It's time you know who Emily really is.”
Emily froze.
