Rose's POV
“Rose, crying won't bring back the dead; they are forever gone,” a familiar voice that used to belong to James echoed, making me wonder if I was in hell. “All you have to do now is think about your future—your future without them.”
My eyes flashed open upon hearing the same words I heard a few days before my birthday. I slowly scanned everywhere to confirm if I was still in the funeral house.
A gasp almost escaped my lips upon confirming everything, which was exactly the way it was before I gave everything to James. It took me a while before I could access what just happened.
I was given a second chance, a chance to avenge my death and live my life without regret. I did not know the god that gave me this chance, but I would make sure to use it wisely.
“Rose,” James' voice snapped me out of my thoughts. “If you can't—”
I interrupt him before he completes his statement. I won't be fooled twice!
“If you mean the company management, I would handle it myself,” I said calmly, sounding a little strange. “That is what my father would want,” I added calmly, trying to make a difference this time.
I would do whatever it takes to prevent James from ruining me again. Even if I have to join hands with the devil, I would make sure not to die pathetically this time!
“Oh, but—”
“I am sorry; I think I need a break from everything,” the words flew out of my mouth before I could think straight. I can't just break up with him without a reason. I don't want him to suspect my motive and use another trick on me. “I am sorry, James,” I added, faking my tears.
I felt his hands encircle me as he hugged me. His embrace felt warm and loving, or that was what I thought before being killed by those hands.
“If that is what you want, then fine, let's go on break and reunite on your birthday,” his voice echoed warmly.
His words made me flash back to the day he pushed me down the stairs. If I hadn't seen the satisfying smirk on his face, I would have thought he felt remorse for what he did.
“Sure,” I nodded calmly before returning my gaze to my parent's frame.
My hands made their way to my father's frame. I smiled faintly before muttering inwardly, ‘Father, I would make sure to manage the company to the best I could and make sure to live long.’
After a few rites, the funeral came to an end. James drove me to my apartment before leaving.
Since my future in this lifetime would be determined by my birthday, I have to think of a way to avoid dying at James's hands.
It took me a while before I could come up with the idea of escaping from my death. All I just have to do is collaborate with someone powerful; I get protected and avenge my death.
I brought out my laptop before searching for the most reputable businessman. All the men that appeared on my screen weren't the kind of guys I was expecting.
I kept scrolling down until my gaze landed on Victor Blackwood, the man who lost a deal worth a trillion dollars a day after my parents…
My eyes widened as I recalled the vivid event! He is going to lose that deal tomorrow. An incident that would end his business career with his name hurried alongside.
I returned my laptop to its spot before taking a quick bath. After I was done, I dressed up before leaving for the bar Victor Blackwood always frequented.
He is not just known for strictness when it comes to business; he is also popular for his coldness.
It was a thirty-minute rough ride from my apartment to the bar. I pulled over in the garage before getting out.
I exhaled sharply before entering the bar. This time, I had already made up my mind not to be the naive and innocent girl James and Alexis knew.
Even if I have to become a monster and join hands with the devil to get my revenge, I won't hesitate!
The smell of cigarettes, beer, and expensive liquor filled my nose, making me cough slowly.
My eyes scanned the bar until they landed on Victor Blackwood, who was busy going through his tab. I didn't hesitate before walking up to him.
I did not bother asking for his permission before sitting on the empty chair, facing him.
Before he could talk, I began. “Mr. Blackwood, can I have ten minutes of your time?”
“I am sorry, I don't have time to spare sluts,” he replied coldly, not taking his gaze off his tab.
I balled my fist as I contain my anger. “Maybe that would be the case if I were a slut, Mr. Blackwood,” I muttered calmly. “I am here to save you from your ruins! You are going to lose the C&D Limited partnership without my tip.”
He raised his gaze slowly before studying my expression. Confirming I wasn't just blabbing, he spoke, “Tip? I wonder what makes you think I would listen to whatever you have to say when you know nothing about the deal.”
“The deal was first proposed two months ago. It is worth a trillion dollars, and the deal will be sealed tomorrow,” I said before crossing my legs. “But you would ruin everything without my tip, Mr. Blackwood.” Even though I was nervous, I made sure not to reveal it.
