The Deal

1091 Words
Amelia entered the office with a brave facade and eyes fixated at the man she almost married. He’s still the same, that’s what she thought. Stoic and lifeless as if he’s the one shouldering the problems of the world, resulting in a commanding presence that one might mistook for aloofness. But no. He’s just one aggravating bastard for her. “It’s been a while, Alejandro.” she enunciated as she tried to hide her shaky legs that were about to give up from the lengthy commute. “You know, I only came here for a single purpose and I don’t want a ‘no’ as an answer. You don’t have a choice, anyway.” Rolling her eyes, Amelia continued her litany. “Let’s make a deal regarding our child’s case.” Alejandro darkened his expression at the words of the woman, who stormed his office like a wild beast. It’s clear, he won’t be able to forget that face that gave him humiliation on his expected wedding day – Amelia Rose Trinidad. He wanted her to answer the numerous questions he had in his head but more than that, the thing that she’s saying about having a child left him astounded. “Ame–” “I can guarantee you joint legal custody with the child but in exchange for your kidney. How’s that?” Taken aback at Amelia’s abrupt interruption to him and her ridiculous offer, Alejandro clicked his tongue, narrowing his eyes more with a deep frown. “Are you crazy?” Alejandro icily told Amelia. “You left me and after five years, this kind of stupidity is the first thing you want to talk about?” he asked, standing from his seat and walking towards Amelia to get a closer look at her expressions. “What, child? We had a child? That’s what you want me to believe?” he continued on, taunting the girl, who won’t take a step back like what she always does. “Come on, who knows… maybe the reason why you ran off to our wedding is because you find flirting with another man more enjoyable. Maybe that child is the product of you, bitching around.” Furious, Amelia answered all of Alejandro’s questions with a sharp slap to his face. “Me, crazy? Yes!” Alejandro shot a glare at Amelia and saw the ferocity of her emotions in her eyes. Is this the lame Amelia that he knew before? He’s going to explain himself when Amelia slapped him again to the other side of his face with her purse. “And I’m a b***h,” she added. Pissed off at Alejandro’s attitude and words, Amelia returned the favor. “You’re asking what child? I thought you’re a genius, why can’t you understand a simple reproduction? We f*cked, I got pregnant, the end. What else do you want me to say? You clearly know how well you enjoyed my body that night? Oh, I forgot, maybe you thought it’s Melissa that you’re f*cking and not me. But b***h, surprise, it’s me. Any questions?” “Then–” “Oh yeah, I forgot,” Amelia interrupted Alejandro once again. “Your son’s dying and he badly needs an operation as soon as possible. It’s kidney dysplasia… You don’t know that either, do you?” Alejandro breathed out to release the tension he’s feeling from Amelia’s actions and words. Seriously? The way this new Amelia fights back reminds him of a lioness but then, he remained adamant regarding his stance about the child. “How can I be sure that that child is mine, Miss Trinidad?” He challenged her. This time, it’s Amelia who tried to loosen her tense nerves. She wanted to slap him again but her hands are still numb from the initial slaps she gave him earlier. “Have you heard of the term DNA test, Mister?” she said, giving back the formality that he showed her. “Or maybe you’re really stupid, you just don’t know because you’re stupid?” Amelia berated at him more. Dead set on not falling for Amelia’s tricks and taunts, Alejandro sat back confidently to his chair and scrutinized Amelia from a distance. “Take a seat,” he offered when he noticed that she’s already having a hard time standing, pointing at the empty sofa used for casual meetings in his office. Yet, Amelia refused. “No, thanks,” she told him, ignoring his goodwill. That being so, Alejandro carried on his skepticism, “Miss Trinidad, although I want to help you with your predicament, I am afraid it will take some more consideration and time on my side. As you can observe, I am highly doubtful about the fact that we had a child together. In that case, I will only consider your words when you showed me the child and that DNA test that you’re talking about.” Well, he doubts that Amelia will be able to pull it off because from what he observed, it seems like the girl never had any pregnancy. In contrast, she looks more lively and youthful than when she was his fiancee years ago. And there’s also the possibility that he can’t ignore that Amelia’s father only pushed Amelia again to do this stunt and ordered her to create a drama about having kidney dysplasia. “You already met him,” Amelia scoffed, remembering what happened in the airport where she saw Alejandro talking with her son, Caden. Confused, Alejandro knitted his eyebrows, trying to remember all the places he’s been and the people he’s meeting these past few days. Seeing that the man is recollecting memories, Amelia tried to help him. “You don’t remember?” she teased. “The boy you bumped into at the airport, that’s the child I am talking about.” In a flash, the scene was rewinded at the back of Alejandro’s memory. True, he can remember about bumping into a child but to think that that child is connected to Amelia, he can’t imagine how elaborate all of this plan is. Feeling that she had no more things to say, Amelia opened her pouch and brought out an envelope with a neatly folded paper in it. “This is the child custody’s paper,” she informed him. But because times already changed, Amelia gave Alejandro a wry smile. “I’ll be back daddy, see you soon,” she said before exiting the office, leaving Alejandro confused and in total daze on the storm that happened.
