She excuses herself from the meeting to use the restroom and we use that time to discuss her story. We are talking about how to figure out who took her when there is a loud crash in the storage room. We all race to the room and find Crisa standing over Deacon with a broken bottle in her hand. His head is bleeding badly and she is panting like she just ran a marathon.
She doesn’t even acknowledge that we have walked into the room. She just turns and starts walking to the back door to leave. Then out of nowhere Deacon pulls out his gun and aims it right at her. All of us are stunned at what we walked in on and you can hear Thane yell her name. She turns as Deacon fires a shot at her and hits her in the shoulder. She drops into a kneeling position and reaches into her boot pulling out a knife. She c***s her arm back and let’s it fly through the air and hits Deacon in the chest effectively killing him. All of this happened so quickly that the only reaction was Thane calling her name before she collapsed.
I was the first one to reach her and pick her up while Thane was yelling for someone to get the car. Tyler was on the phone calling the police to report the incident. I didn’t like that the police were going to be involved, but there was no covering up this situation quietly. It was self defense on Crisa’s part so it shouldn’t take to long to get everything settled. I climb in the car and hold her on my lap the entire way to the hospital. I don’t want to let her go even when we get to the hospital because I’m afraid that I’m going to lose her.
If there is one thing I know right now it’s that I never want to lose her. We are in the waiting room for hours before the doctor finally comes back in to tell us that she is out of surgery and in a room. She says that only two of us can go back and see her at a time. Thane and I are out of our seats before she can finish the sentence and everyone else leaves to go make sure that the businesses are running.
As we walk back to her room the doctor fills us in on how the surgery went and let’s us know it may take a while for her to wake up. I let her know that I won’t be going anywhere until she is discharged from the hospital and Thane says the same. The doctor tries to tell us that there are rules and we cannot stay, but the looks on our faces tell her that we don’t care about the rules so she drops it.
Thane and I each take a spot by her bedside and we learn more about each other as the time passes by. They were raised by their father when their mother left. When their father passed away she was only sixteen and he was nineteen so he took her in. Once she turned eighteen she started learning everything she could about driving trucks and starting a business.
She took night classes while working a dead end job during the day and as soon as she was twenty one she enrolled in driving school. From that moment on she was an unstoppable force building the empire she has now. She brought her brother and his friends along for the ride because they took care of her and always had her back even before losing her father. This woman was definitely someone that you wanted on your side because she would do anything for those that she cared about.
Thane told me stories about her always trying to follow him around when they were kids. She was always trying to be one of the boys growing up and that’s how she became so close to his best friends. They all look at her as a sister they would give their lives to protect. He tells me that all of her businesses employ down on their luck people that needed a helping hand to get back on their feet.
From everything that I have learned about her in the last hour you can see why people are so loyal to her. I know there is some stuff that he isn’t telling me like how she is so efficient in defending herself, but that’s okay because she can tell me the rest when she gets better. I don’t know what it is about this woman that pulls me to her, but I need her and I need to know everything that there is to know about her.
