Chapter Seventy-One: Storm

714 Words
I felt horrible as I watched Crisa throwing up and all I could do was hold her hair back. Then after all of that the pancakes that I made specifically for her were damn near gone. She was barely keeping her temper in check as she gave me a kiss and walked out. I sent Stormy out shortly after so that I could say, “I made those pancakes for Stormy, Crisa, and I. I made enough to share, but you guys couldn’t even wait a few minutes and leave enough for Crisa and I to eat. Were we supposed to be satisfied sharing five pancakes between the two of us. You know what I have to get to work and since I have to pick up breakfast on the way I need to leave now. Make sure you clean up this mess and lock the door on your way out.” I didn’t stay to get a response from any of them. On my way to work I stopped by Starbucks for breakfast and hoped that Crisa ate something at the diner before she started her interviews.       As lunchtime approached I picked up my phone to call Crisa, but before I could dial her number she walked into the shop. She quickly made her way over to me giving me a kiss before saying, “hey I hope you aren’t busy right now. I forgot to tell you earlier that I was able to make an appointment for today. It’s in thirty minutes on the outskirts of town. I figured that we could go to the appointment and then get some lunch. If you are busy that’s okay as well.” I let her know that I was free and that I would meet her at the car in a minute. Then I let Tristan know that I would be taking a longer lunch than usual due to having an appointment. When I walked out I saw Crisa standing next to my car talking to one of the guys old ladies. They said their goodbyes as I approached and we made our way to the doctors office.       Crisa told me about her interviews and that she was able to hire all the staff needed. She also talked about wanting to be able to provide childcare for everyone that needs it. I enjoyed her enthusiasm and passion for helping her employees. Listening to her talk animatedly about everything helped distract me as we waited for the appointment to begin. When the doctor entered they spoke like old friends. She had the nurse draw blood to send out and verify the results of the pee test she had Crisa take. She also gave Crisa an ultrasound based on the timeline she wanted to verify the pregnancy without waiting for the blood test to come back. We all sat quietly while the doctor started the ultrasound and looked for the heartbeat. The doctor pointed to the screen to show where the baby was while Crisa silently cried. The doctor gasped and told us to hold on as she moved the wand. The sound of the heartbeat changed causing me to worry, but the doctor mumbled a wow before turning to tell us it was twins.        My jaw dropped and Crisa grabbed my hand sobbing. I wrapped my arms around her to comfort her. Once she had calmed down and cleaned herself up we made our way to the car only stopping to schedule another appointment. We silently drove back to the garage until Crisa’s phone rang. Looking at the screen I could see that it was Stormy’s school calling. I watched Crisa’s face change as she spoke to whoever was on the other line. When she got off the phone she looked at me and said, “we will have to skip lunch. I need to go pick Stormy up from school. Something felt off this morning and now they are calling for her to be picked up. I will go alone to see if I can find out what’s going on. I will let you know what happened as soon as I know.” I rushed back to the garage and told her to call me if she needs me there before she took off.
