Chapter Thirty-Four: Storm

827 Words
It’s been two days since everything went down and Crisa hasn’t woken up yet. I know Thane is just as worried as I am, but he is trying not to show it.  He’s on the other bed asleep while I sit with her. It’s a routine we have developed and it works for us. Neither of us wants to leave her side, but we know our bodies can’t stay up until she wakes up and we somehow trust each other to be there when we can’t. I don’t know how or when this blind trust developed, but it did and it’s kind of nice to have.      I was sitting there holding her hand and talking to her like I always do. I was telling her about Thalia’s threats when I thought I heard say, “you wouldn’t find it funny if you were on the other end of that threat and what came with it.” I was shocked as I called her name and asked her to repeat what she said. Next thing I know she said, “did I say that out loud?” I answered with a simple yes and begged her to open her eyes. I could see as she struggled with opening them, but when they finally opened I was so happy that she was finally awake.             She looked at Me and motioned for me to come closer. I looked at her warily, but did what she asked and before I knew it she slapped me on the back of my head. I looked at her in shock and asked why she hit me. She gave me a once over before saying, “that was for blaming yourself for what happened. It wasn’t your fault and you couldn’t have stopped me.” At that Tara entered the room and she had shocked expression on her face. She probably saw Crisa hit me and was waiting for me to retaliate, but I just got up and went to wake Thane up.         He didn’t even get a chance to say anything to Crisa before we were ushered out of the room so they could examine her. Thane just jumped on the phone letting people know that she was up and making plans for her to have home care. He was on autopilot and I wondered how many times she has been injured like this. It seemed like forever before the nurse came out to get Crisa some water, but before she could go back in I took the water from her and went to the room. Before I could enter I heard Tara say, “you need to be careful. You can’t just go around smacking Storm. You’re lucky I walked in when I did.” Tara was serious and trying to help Crisa, but the next thing I hear is Crisa’s laughter. I chose that moment to walk in with the water which only made her laugh harder.       Tara looked at Crisa like she was crazy and I had to pretend I was clueless as to why she had been laughing. When she stopped laughing I offered her the water. She took it and after taking a drink looked at Tara to say, “I appreciate the thought, but I don’t need your advice on that subject. Now when can he take me home?” She pointed at me when she asked about going home. The shock on Tara’s face was comical and I probably had the same expression on my face because I was not expecting her to ask about me taking her home.       Tara opened her mouth to protest, but Crisa cut her off and said, “look I know that I need to be observed, my wound needs to be cleaned/dressed daily, and that I can’t do anything strenuous. There’s really no need in me staying here and forcing you to keep your clinic closed any longer than necessary. So you can go ahead and write whatever prescriptions and instructions you want so I can get out of here and back to my own bed with my own personal waiter.” Tara huffed and mumbled something about 20 minutes before leaving the room.       Thane and the boys came in chuckling after Tara walked out. Apparently they thought her expression was funny and only something that could be caused by Crisa. They talk about her like she’s a pain in the ass and irritates people regularly. I just know what I want and I don’t stop until I get it. I just sit back watching their interactions and I can see that they all have nothing, but love for each other.Thane stopped the joking and went over the plans he made for her going home. Right as he finished Tara walked in with the paperwork for wound care and the prescriptions that were needed to prevent infection. With that we were left to get her ready and get out of here.
