They've committed horrendous atrocities. The truth pointed to them being, if not behind the whole ordeal, a major contributing party. And I can’t explain in words how much it hurt. I always used to try to find time to play with them and show them things. I used to catch caterpillars for them and be present when the caterpillars turned into butterflies. I’d take them swimming and always assure them they were safe in all that they did. They were always the sweetest. But as we got older, my life and responsibilities changed. I was required to undergo ritualistic training, and I could no longer spend time with them. It doesn’t mean I didn’t want to. It’s I never had time. Naomi was always present. Even though she was and would always be Princess, she showed up to all of our studies regarding wolf and vampire laws and customs. She always made sure she was on top of things. I remember thinking she was only doing it because she wanted the throne herself, but one day I overheard her tell Lia she would never want the throne, that Kealoha could have it. It was too much responsibility. That she just wanted to be available if we ever needed help. And I have loved her more ever since for that. I wanted to take a stand to defend Naomi, but being the next in line for King, I wasn’t allowed to take sides. I am to remain neutral at all times until evidence says otherwise. In this case, the evidence was circumstantial. Yes, Nahe and Nanea are involved. And I pray that they are tried justly with the evidence we have for their participation. But there is still a lot of information we still need to secure a conviction. I know, I like it neither. But it’s the way our laws work. We now know that neither one of them was the one who conjured up the poison, nor were they present when Naomi had drunk it—clearing them, in this part of the case. But they are a part of what happened. We need to know who their affiliation is with and why. My sympathy goes out to all parties. I cannot love one more than the other. As the future King, I can only try to be neutral in my feelings and emotions. I can only pray to my grandmother that she may shed some light on our family because we were falling apart. ********** Lia POV The strength I had lost to silence the number of f*****g mind links that came at me since we left was exhausting. I tried keeping it between my mother, Lexi, and me, but my father wouldn’t let up, and neither did my mom Meagan, so I filled them in as much as possible without giving too much away. Surprisingly, all three of Juliette and I’s parents were supportive of our actions. I thought I was disappointing them, but it seemed the opposite. We got word that Keahi, even though he was the one who pleaded with Kealoha so he wouldn't face rejection, he had rejected Kealoha, and since then, she’s locked herself in her room. Only Lena was allowed in. When I told Naomi, her hands grew hot. To say she wanted his blood was an understatement. Little orange flames danced across her fingertips. It wasn’t as impressive as the first day she had used them, but still, seeing her with power, one so impressively precarious, was incredible. We are on day four now. Kahi had scouted new areas every time we left a location, and every time we came across a possibility of being caught, somehow, all Kahi did was to step in front of us, and poof, problem solved. Anyone who questioned us weirdly had decided not to, every damn time. Keahi said it was because they feared he’d kill them, but he forgets that I am the Luna in waiting and know a thing or two about vampires. * Every day and I mean every day, four sometimes, up to ten times a day, I’d get mind links from Devon. Each time I’d block him out because I needed to stay vigilant, and getting caught up in our mate bond was not happening right now. Yes, as I said, I know we’re mates. I knew since the moment our eyes met. Do I accept him? Absolutely. Just not right now. I’m still in limbo on what I want right now as far as it comes to mates. Plus, we haven’t shifted or met our wolves yet, so why rush? Plus, my priority is Naomi. She would be eighty-eighty-five percent human if I had to guess. She doesn’t heal at all. Her mind is entirely her own now. She has no familial-like bond to the royal family any longer. She knows them as her adopted family, but that familial bond-one our wolves have with our family, our pack, she no longer possesses. She’s still a spitfire with her words, just like me, but I can see how timid she has become. She lost her spunk, and I miss it. I've received a few mind links from Blake. And as much as I wanted to answer, like with Devon, I had to stay focused on our mission. We were keeping Naomi safe and finding answers. Today though, Blake’s links were different. Not so much urgent anymore. More so, defeated. It had me worried, so I gave in and excused myself from our little group as we gathered in some small town motel that Kahi had ‘persuaded’ the clerk to let us stay and not remember us even being there. Lia-“Blake?” Blake-“Thank Goddess. Are you guys okay?” Lia-“Yes. We’re fine. You?” Blake-“Devon is..he’s holding on. As am I.” I felt the bleakness, and my heart sank. Blake and Naomi are mates. She accepted him as he had accepted her. He marked her for Christ sake, causing even more pain between the two. Now that they are miles apart, I don’t want to fathom the pain. Naomi, as a human, still feels some attachment to Blake. She explained it to us the other night. The mate bond is no longer there. That magical pull, She wasn’t a hundred percent sure if what she still felt was something like a mate bond or if it was now more knowing that he was her mate before and now is obligated to him to keep the relationship. She still wanted to try with him. Lia-“I’m sorry.” Blake-“I know it’s a lot to ask. But, I swear, on my life, I’d never tell a soul. As your best friend, I swear. Can I see her? I beg of you. Please.” He was hurting and trying his hardest to keep it together. I was sure it was for Devon. However, he was hanging on by a thread. One I knew was snapping away, fiber by teeny-tiny fiber. Lia-“Let me talk to the group.” I cut the link briefly and turned to Naomi. “I know you’re on the teeter with your thoughts about you and Blake, and I am not asking this to add any more pressure or stress on you, but he’s hurting Naomi. Would you be willing to see him? If you still want to reject him, it will be time. But this decision is totally up to you.” She looked lost. Like she had no mind of her own. “I don’t know.” She whispered as Juliette took to her side. “We’ll be beside you the whole time,” Juliette says, laying her head on Naomi’s shoulder. Lia: We’ll be there in a couple of hours. Blake, you have to know, and as your friend, I’ll tell you.....Naomi is more human now than a wolf....She’s different. So when we arrive, please, be gentle. She’s fragile...Expect us soon..” I didn’t give him time to respond as I had to figure out a way to convince my group that this was something we needed to do. Blake and Naomi need to close this chapter in their lives or determine where they stand and see if it’ll work out. With Naomi being a human now, everything is different. I’m unsure if Blake's wolf will accept her, and I’ll cuss him out if he scolds her. But this needs to be done. And soon. ********** Blake POV I opened the door, and immediately I was able to breathe. Naomi's scent wrapped around me like a silky shroud of happiness. “You gonna let us in?” Lia chided, and I chuckled, “of course. Come in.” Lia entered first, Juliette second, Naomi third and Kahi entered. When I turned after closing the door, Naomi had taken the short distance between us and jumped into my arms. My tears immediately fell as I felt no spark. I held onto her tightly as I sobbed. Everything we wolves look forward to, finding your mate and feeling all the tingles and electricity in each other's touch. The magic was gone. How could the Moon Goddess be so cruel? Cruel to bless me with such a precious gift, only to rip it away? I fell to my knees, dragging her with me. “I’m so sorry.” I heard her cry. “I still choose you. I only want you.” I gripped her harder. I didn’t know what else to do. Yes, I am still a wolf, with every sense of a wolf. I could still smell her scent that Oli and I had engraved into our hearts and minds. It was still calling out, MATE! to us. But I felt it. The mate bond, the telling tale of sparks, was no longer there. I couldn’t think. Nothing made sense. How could her scent still capture me, but the mate bond be absent? She pulled away and caressed my cheeks in her palms, “if you’ll still have me,” I cried. She was all I ever dreamed of, Sweet, intelligent, honest, caring, and aggressive when need be. She was a hundred percent a perfect mate. I couldn’t speak, so I pulled her into a kiss to show her that she was it. I gave her my heart and soul when I accepted her. And just because she is no longer a wolf, it doesn’t change a thing. She is and always will be the one to hold them. “I’ll always only want you.” With that, we just sat there, allowing what is now our new bond to form. It was probably minutes that had gone by when a round of sniffles filled the space around us. Lia had ugly tears falling as she held on to Devon. Juliette and Kahi were crying and held each other for comfort in Naomi and I’s moment. “I love you,” I whisper to her and place a kiss on her forehead. I guided her to stand and noticed how much more feeble and unsteady she was. When I stood, I cleared my throat and walked to the kitchen. “My home is your home. You all are welcome to say as long as you need. I understand if you must leave, but I hope you know that you all are always welcome.” Without warning, I was practically tackled when Lia ran to me, pulling me by my waist for a hug. She was still my best friend, and everyone here is my family now. I’ll be everything and do anything they’ll need me to do. “Hey, little wolf, yeah, I miss you too.” She pouted at my choice of endearment, and I giggled. “Now, as you know, it’s only a two bedroom, but it is a large enough space. The couches are pull-out beds; I have a futon mattress as well. Whatever you need, let Devon or me know. We’ll get it. Less exposure for you four.” Kahi smiled and nodded. “Thanks,” Kahi said. “I’m just putting it out there; staying here, I think, will be good. After Naomi's, umm-departure from Blake, back at the castle, I don’t think they’ll send anyone to look here. What do you say, Lia? Naomi? It’s ultimately your call.” Kahi says, looking at his sister and cousin. “The first sign we see of trouble, we bounce.” He adds. “Noami? Do you have any objections?” Lia asks, holding Naomi’s hand. “No, it’ll be nice to stay somewhere, clean-er.” They all laughed, but all I could do was pout. For four days, they slummed it. “It’s settled then. Naomi will stay with Blake in his room. I’ll stay with Devon in his. Juliette gets her pullout. Kahi gets his own.” Lia commanded. They all nodded, and we soon found ourselves making the best of our situation. “You guys hungry. I just went shopping. We’re stocked up.” I call out, looking in my fridge. “Devon makes a wicked breakfast.” Devon smiles a big smile and nods. “Breakfast on me, guys.” “I’m just tired. Is it okay if I take a nap?” Naomi yawns. “Of course, rooms to the left. The bathroom is stocked with fresh towels.” She smiled and let out another yawn as she headed to my room. When she is out of earshot, everyone's attention turns to me. “What?” I had to ask. I felt like I was being looked down at with a magnifying glass. As if I was some new specimen they’ve discovered that doesn’t do well. Goddess what? ************** Tobias POV My beast has been on a prowl. Conrad, my friend for many ages, has deceived me. Conrad was a warlock who came to me centuries ago, deciding he no longer wanted to be a warlock. Conrad and I met at a threshold in the realm of necromancy. He was being illegally hunted by necromancy for his wisdom in the arts of sorcery and spells. When I first met him, I saw he was of pure white light. I offered him sanctuary in my world in return for fifty percent of his powers. But he did me one better by providing all of it. Because of his rank and century-long wisdom and knowledge in sorcery and magic, he confessed that he’ll always be hunted, and he was done running. He’s been running long enough. In my investigation, I found that Conrad has been traveling to earth for the last hundred years, building a human empire with riches. How was that appealing, I have no clue, but he did it and has built a kingdom worthy of some powerful ranks. In all of this, I find that Naomi was promised to Conrad in some earthly binding contract. Over my f*cking dead body. She is mine. She is my Anastacia, and he will not touch her. His consort with rogues, as well as those of the darker sides of the spectrum, angered Karamin, my lioness. Have I turned a blind eye that much not to have sensed his light dimming? How did I not feel it? How did he will the ingredients and the magic without burning? How? So many questions. I told Naomi I would return in a week with answers. Sadly, the answers I have for her will most likely not be taken well, and I feel it will separate the bond we created, which angers my hybrids. She is their final soul to love. We’ve searched for her for many years, and now that I've found her, I will not let her go. The sparks that tingled between us solidified that she is my Anastacia. I’d have brought her with me if I could, but until she is in her proper form, there is no way. It’s been over a week, and I am fighting the urge to go to earth and shred it to pieces. Earthlings and their greed are why I've despised it. It has always been filled with evil and darkness. Granted, there are those with unclouded, radiant light, like Naomi and some of her family members, but that world is constantly at war. Whether it was the humans or the mythical creatures. Someone was always seeking more power, more riches. It was a hideous and repulsive trait within earth's species.
