Interlude II

Interlude II King Alaric POV When love, a deep-soul binding kind of love, is involved, it is hard to fathom being lied to by the one person who swore to always be open-to be honest, it f*****g hurts like a son-of-a-b***h. The day Naomi had left, I had as well. Back story.... Makana, Dom, Maika and I had taken seats around our office. Not one of us was able to speak about what had just happened. Our daughters were at war, and sadly with one another. To even imagine such a thing is preposterous, but because I am living it, I don’t know how to feel or what to do. We all sat there. No one was uttering a single word. Only the sound of Makana’s whimpers filled the space. Which, right now, aggravates me more. Usually, I have the urge to want to run to her and cuddle her to stop crying. Not now though. Right now there seems to be a lot that has happened and neither Maika nor I know what the hell that is. I got tired and irritated with everyone's silence, so I decided to break it. “If either of you have any honor, you both will tell us what ever it is Kealoha saw or so help me mother Goddess, I am out of here.” Makana sat there crying, unable to look at me or Maika, causing my wolf, Alistair, to growl. “Alaric?!” Dom asked, hearing Alistair growl. “You both have offended us and sit here as if you haven't lied and done shady s**t behind our backs. Must I remind you, I am still a vampire and my patience is getting thinner by the seconds. So I ask again, what the hell is going on?” “Makana, you know I love you. Goddess knows I do, but how could you both leave us out of the loop?” I turned to Maika who had tears falling down his cheek. “Do you know how stupid we feel right now? Am I even a King? Am I even an equal in this partnership?” I stood and sat next to Maika, gripping his shoulder for support because his feelings and words were my exact thoughts. “Dom?” I asked, seeing if he’d give us an explanation. But he just sighed and turned to Makana. “This is all messed up.” I heard him sigh. “We found out that Kealoha’s mate, Keahi, is a major puzzle piece in our predicament...” I couldn’t hear anything. “Alaric, let me finish before you try to kill him.” Dom says in a defeated tone. “He allowed Makana to read him the evening of the ball. He wanted to let us know who he is and the things he’s done with all of that. And, well, lets’ just say he's got you matched, Alaric, when it comes to sinister things done.” Dom chuckled at his own personal joke, but I didn’t, I just wanted the story and now. “After that, I did some digging. Keahi crossed paths with a human. A human whose father is an Italian mob boss. Well, there was a deal to be made and Keahi had his own plans. The boy, the mob boss's son, died. As did this mob boss's second in command. In a short version, Keahi is a wanted man. The mob boss has ties in the human world that would cause a lot of damage if we ever went to war. This mob boss, Mr. Conrad, he is also the person who Nahe and Nanea have been in contact with and it is he that they ‘sold’ Naomi off too.” He watched as my eyes shifted to several shades. “We also feel, from Keahi’s thoughts, that even with the deal Nahe had made with this Conrad guy, he still wants Keahi’s head for killing his son.-“ Dom sighed, “We didn’t think of this lightly and it was just thought of last night, so I apologize." Dom let a brief moment pass before he continued, "We can’t save one because it will hurt the other....the doubt Makana has, that is it. In order to help Naomi, we have to sacrifice Kealoha’s mate...we haven’t even decided what the plan is, we were going to talk to you guys first....we...” Dom let out a tired sigh. I could still see there was much more to be shared. Blowing up right now wasn’t ideal, so I reigned in my beasts, and spoke as calmly as I could. “Okay, what else?” I still heard the bite and didn’t mean to have so much bite in my tone, but I wasn’t the easiest person when s**t hits the fan. “We found out Nahe has been in consorts with Conrad for the last year at least. She supplies him with rogues to help with security. Nanea, she’s just part of the ride. Nahe is....” Dom sighed and looked at Makana. She gave him a smile and finally spoke, “Nahe is the Queen of the Rogues.” I stopped breathing. “What?” was all I could say. Maika stood up out of his seat and I could feel the heat radiating off of him. “When you straightened your life out, Alaric, your rogue following left you and your rule. We don’t know how or when, but it seems Nahe had heard of your past life and took over. She may not carry your blood, but it seems she carries your old ambitions.” All I could do was sigh. I mean, what else could I do right now? “So all of this, the open-minded reading with Keahi, your ideas of what could be done, the twin's involvement, all of it, you both decided not to share? Why do I feel like if Naomi and Kealoha’s outburst, you both would never have spoken up about this?” “We thought that if a tough decision was to be made....” My vampire arises. “That what!? Huh-you go over our heads to make the executive decision? Am I not your brother? Is Maika not your brother? Are we not equals? And you, Makana? Are we not your mates? I thought we were in this together? That we were a f*cking team!” I was livid. I have never felt so betrayed and so small in my entire life. No one said anything, as it seems, it has become a thing. I straightened myself out, tightened my tie, and stood, “well then, if I am of no use to this group and my opinion or advice is not needed, I’ll head back to my coven.” Makana let out a low sob but still refused to look at me. (Mind link) Makana-“It’s our coven.” Alaric-“No. It seems this Kingdom is yours and Doms. The coven has always been mine and mine only. So, I’m returning to my Kingdom. You can include yourself when you include me in your future endeavors.” (end mind link) Without another word and in the blink of an eye I left. Shutting Makana and Dom’s mind links out. End Back story..... *** “Sire, border patrol has reported several wolves on the outskirts of the southern border.” I nodded and took off to the location my men had sent to me. “Hail to your Prince and your Princess.” It’s been a couple of weeks now since I’ve left the Wolf Kingdom. For a couple of weeks, I have kept in close contact with Kahi, my son. His reports about his sister broke my heart. She is and always will be my first born. I don’t care what anyone says. As I approached their group, I could see them. She was completely withering. The kids didn’t know what else to do, so they came to me. As my doors are always open to them. “Father.” Kahi ran up to me as I took him into a warm embrace. “Hello my son. God I missed you.” His smile warmed my icy heart of late and immediately I felt my beast calm. “Hello my baby girl.” I stepped towards Naomi and smelt her. Causing my heart to c***k. “Hi.” is all I got but I refused to let her think that she was not my daughter. In one stride, I closed the gap between us, picked her up, crushing her into me. “I love you baby. I always have and always will. You are my daughter and I have never doubted it.” She cried, soft whimpering cries as I embraced her. “Come now. Let’s get to the castle.” We walked the thousand years of a path up to the castle and I saw for myself how weak and frail Naomi had become. I offered to carry her, but she was adamant that she could do it and she did. Even though she was winded, and we went at a snail's pace, she made the walk all by herself. “Where’s Blake? Devon?” I asked Lia. “They stayed back in Keaau. Umm-they aren’t used to being around vampires and I didn’t want to cause stress. So when I explained where we were going, they opted to stay back.” I let out a breath but gave Lia a quick nod. “Okay, for the time being you all stay on the third floor, east wing, across the hall from me. I-we never had guests who required normal comforts, so for now, until the furniture arrives, you’ll have to make do with what is available.” I said as I guided them to the room I had my staff made up. “Cool.” Kahi said as I opened the door to the apartment across the hall from my room. “This,-“ I said, pointing around, “is for you.” I walked several feet ahead to take a stand in the middle of the large space. “Dad?” my son gasps. “When you are ready, this Kingdom is yours. You’ve come along way son, and if it was your choosing, and want it today, I believe you are ready for it. But, I won’t rush you. These souls are for you to lead. When you are ready.” ********* Makana POV With every action comes a reaction. Where there are blessings, one must accept its curse. For everything that is good, there'll always be bad. And for many years now, our blessings have overflowed. No one knows what it is like to be me. To be the daughter of the moon goddess herself and my father, a direct descendant of the first Alpha King of Wolves that the moon goddess herself created to protect those who couldn’t protect themselves. I am in constant battle with my demons. My magic and I are at constant war to seek dominance over one another. And I find myself unable to console my mates most of the time because they aren't strong enough to help me carry these burdens. Except Dom. He is the strength I seek and because of him I find solace. I cannot and will not accept anything that has happened. I refuse too. If there is a time that I have to be selfish, I choose now. For I will not lose any one of my children to young greed and uneducated plans. I have given so much, for what? To have my children at odds? I refuse to accept it. This is not and will not be my legacy.
