Light Children

Lia POV To say I was livid was an understatement. My anger at the moment had no limit and I was gonna see that Keahi was punished for his deeds. “Babe, calm down.” Devon tried now for the last hour to get me to calm down, but I wasn’t having it. Neither was Naomi. Blake, Tobias and Devon kept trying but to no avail, as Naomi and I planned the death of Keahi. We were all gathered in Kealoha’s room, awaiting for her to wake. It was twenty-four hours now that she fell unconscious. I can only imagine the pain that she felt. “Meeting in my office. Now.” We all turned to Uncle Alaric, who had a look that mimicked mine. Anger. I gave him one curt nod and eyed everyone. Like me, everyone wanted to stay with Kealoha, but we needed to do something and I knew my uncles had received something, or some sort of information, to have to call a meeting. “I’m staying with her,” Christian announced. “Even if I wanted to, walking a simple inch away from her is painful right now. Please, keep me posted.” I felt for him. I’ve come to like him as his whole being revolved around Kealoha. As a mate bond should be. I gave him a smile, “will do. If she wakes, call us?” He nodded, and we all filed out in the direction of my uncle's office. Once again we crammed into his office, and with him was a man, a vampire who seemed to be just as angry. “Everyone, this is Elias. He is one of my best scouts and huntsmen. Elias, please share with the group what you found.” He bowed, “I was sent to scout for Mr. Keahi two weeks ago with the rumor that he was taken by werebears to werebear territory in the Hamakua district. I followed the rumors and soon found that indeed it was true. I monitored his actions for the first few days and noticed that he was not a prisoner per se. He did have duties, but he wasn’t shackled, he wasn’t imprisoned after his duties. He was free to walk about and never guarded.” We all murmured, trying to decipher what the hell? Elias continued after being cut off, “Anyhow, as I was saying, no chains, no cells, no guards. Free man.” He stopped and looked around, assessing his crowd, “this next bit will be upsetting, but please don’t kill the messenger.” Once again his eyes swooped around, and when it landed on me, I gave him a nod that he had my word. “Not only was he a free man, he was also the princess of bears bed partner.” Everyone either growled or gasped. “I’ve witnessed Mr. Keahi and the princess not once, not twice but quite often get--very intimate.” He continued, “when I first witnessed it, it already seemed that it wasn’t a new thing. It seemed to have been going on for sometime.” I got his attention and asked, “does he have his wolf?” If he did, he and his wolf allowed themselves to betray the mate bond. The human part, it’s heard of. The wolf part, no way. Never would a wolf allow his human part to betray the bond willingly. “No. His wolf is either dormant or gone. His food is laced daily with wolfsbane. The water they drink as well. Many of the so-called prisoners there are wolves, a couple of witches. I think the water wells the wolves use are all doused with a hefty amount of wolfsbane.” He scanned the room awaiting more questions. Ikaika was next, “is there a way to get him?” I smiled, “or would you be able to retrieve him?” He nodded, “yes, their perimeter security is low. It’s almost as if they are not afraid. I was able to get in and out, no one was the wiser. I could have driven a semi through and probably gone unannounced.” We all scoffed, “then why did he remain there? If he was not a prisoner, why stay when he had Kealoha waiting for him as he asked her too?” Naomi asked. “I’ve watched all the wolves. It goes the same with all of them. None seemed to want to leave. It’s as if they’ve forgotten they are prisoners and everything, their prior lives, their families, mates, what have you, were no longer a thought.” He too now looked confused. The room fell quite as we all gave the information thought. Not prisoners. Free to walk around freely. Forgetting and, or not caring about their past lives. A spell? “They’re under a spell.” I shouted. Uncle Alaric seems to be on the same page as he dashes out and soon returns with a leather bound book. “Thank you Elias. You may stay as we may have questions.” Elias bowed, and looked happy to be apart of our group. “I am of assistance.” Uncle Alaric flipped through pages at a speed none of us could keep up with when finally he stopped, “here, it’s a veil spell.” Tobias was up and reading the parchment, nodding in understanding. “I’ve seen this before. It’s old. Back to the Viking days. It’s a mind-altering spell. They still remember their past lives. It's as if their mind works against them. They know, but their mind says opposite. I know confusing. ” His eyes glazed over and not a second later a portal opened and out walked a man who was absolutely gorgeous. “This is my second in command, Auteya. Auteya, this is your queen's family. You will show respect as you do your queen.” He bows and smiles at everyone. “These are the scrolls you requested. I’ve also dug up the box.” Auteya reported. “What about Pilar, did she have any insight?” Auteya shook his head, “she said this was before her time. She’s heard about it, but they were all wives tales.” Tobias nodded again, then let out a sigh. “Conrad.” We all looked at him, waiting for him to continue. He had opened the box that Auteya had brought and in it was a single piece of paper and a quill. “This is Conrad's personal diary, so to speak. The look of it isn’t important, what resides in its pages is. Please no questions right now about the paper.” he looked at us, knowing we were all like, ‘what the f*ck?’ “I believe he forgot that his quill writes his thoughts. It seems Conrad had been working with the bears for the last hundred years. This is why many Alpha’s send their prisoners, those who committed less than murderous crimes, to werebear territory. They turned them into model citizens by erasing their memories.” Tobias flicked his finger and the single page flipped as a page in a book would. “He created this spell in his early warlock days. But it seems he sold it to the King of bears twelve generations ago. ----While he was already a part of my realm!” Everyone could sense the anger rolling off of Tobias. No one spoke as Tobias’s powers flared within the tight quarters. “Tobias, look at me.” Naomi grabbed Tobias’s face and placed her forehead to his. “Gentle breezes, calm seas. In and out.” Not a minute later, the room emptied of the immense power and we all relaxed. “My apologies. I trusted this man and his betrayal seems to have no end.” He looked defeated almost, “excuse me.” We all turned to Elias who spoke, “if I may, I’ve seen that man you speak of. Conrad. He was there in the bear's den. He had a meeting with the king and it seems that it didn’t go well as he left shouting and cursing. I took photo’s.” Elias pulled out a cell phone and tethered the image to the large television screen. “There.” We all looked at the screen and for the first time we had a face to go with the name. “I’ve seen him before.” This time we all looked over to Blake, who looked surprised. “Um-hello, continue.” He shook his shock off, “the day you came to visit me to let me know about Naomi’s arrival. Luna Aza and that man came to my workplace as I was finishing work. They wanted an audience with the wolf queen and kings.” King Maika looked perplexed, “did they say why?” Blake shook his head. “They also asked about Keahi and his where abouts. But obviously I had no clue.” We all went into deep thought, “also, King Maika, Luna Aza seemed to have acquired riches. She was dressed to the nines and held herself very superior. I think this Conrad fella has wiggled his claws into some of the wolves.” Blakes' words caused a lot of us to growl in anger. “She tried to use her Luna aura on me, twice and I shut her down. Being a blood born Alpha, I over ranked her.” Naomi beamed over hearing Blake accept that he was a blood born alpha. We all took note of Blake's words and Elias shuffled through the photos, “wait!” Blake shouted, as did Juliette and I. “Go back.” I called out. Elias did and Juliette was the one to speak up, “that man. He was the one stalking Blake and Devon’s apartment.” Blake and I nodded, remembering his face. “This is one of the werebear kings huntsmen. Graham. Skilled in combat, and even with his size stealthy.” Elias flipped to another photo, “this is his twin brother Greer. He is skilled in several martial arts as well as excellent with tech.” Blake nodded, “yeah, these two were always around even though I never saw them.” In Elias’s montage of photos he had hundreds of photos of the bear's den. He explained each photo to the detail. “Thank you Elias. You are now part of this team. Your expertise is highly valued.” King Alaric patted his man on the back. “We need to put a plan together. But first, we need to know whether or not Keahi is to be apprehended.” “No!” We all turned to see a fragile Kealoha. “No, I don’t want anything to do with him. He made his bed, let him lay in it. He is dead to me.” Naomi ran to Kealoha, engulfing her in her arms. Kealoha burst into tears. I agreed with Kealoha, “Let our focus be on the upcoming war with Conrad. We know he has some obsession with Keahi and Naomi. We need to know why. We know why when it comes to Naomi, but none of us knew that Naomi was the phoenix until weeks later after the poison. So, it makes us question, why ‘was’ he after Naomi at the time?” “Also, we know that Keahi killed Conrad’s son and he’s hunted Keahi now for the last year-plus. But now it seems to have become a crazed obsession. Why?” Kealoha sat with Naomi, her ears perking, “Keahi said that once, when he was a part of Conrads security team, Conrad praised his blood line.” We all fell silent, letting everything sink in when Blake took in a sudden, loud breath. “I know this is going to sound crazy, but last night my mother came to me in a dream and I swear it was so vividly real.” His eyes were moving back and forth, his excitement clearly visible. She had a message, “find Keahi and with the three of us, Keahi, Devon and I together, we would play a big role in the succession of the upcoming war. Something about something the three of us, when together, possess. The reason why we were separated and forced to forget that I had an older brother is that we would never be able to use whatever it is we possess as a unit, to win wars.” Kealoha slowly walked up to Blake and looked at him, her head moving side to side, observing him. “May I?” Blake looked at Naomi and she gave him an encouraging nod. “Yeah.” Blake replied, holding his breath. Kealoha sucked in a breath, her eyes closed, then a burst of light shot out from both of them. “What the hell was that?” I yelled, feeling the power that was in it. “Blake, you-you are a child of light. Devon?” Devon shook his head in fear, “don’t be a wimp,” I scolded as he growled. Kealoha once again placed her hands on the sides of Devon’s head and, again, a powerful light burst from him. “Okay, Kealoha, what the hell?” Tobias was the one to step forward and circle Blake and Devon. “The children of light? It’s impossible. They’ve been extinct for hundreds of years. This can’t be.” Naomi spoke before I could, “Tobias? What are you and Kealoha talking about?” He shook his wonder off and smiled, “Your mate and his brothers are the children of light. They were known to be born of the sun. As was the phoenix. This is all fate. Him being your mate.” Naomi gagged, “I’m mated at my brother?” Tobias shook his head, “no silly.” He looked to Blake, then back to Naomi, “He’s your destiny.” “Whoa, whoa, whoa, hold up, pump your brakes. Rewind. What!?” I was so bl**dy confused. “When I say born from, it’s not like you think. It’s like how the Gods and Goddess’s were created. Born from elements that believed they held aspects of whom they were destined to be.” His eyes scanned Blake and Devon. “Blake? Devon? What do you remember about your parents?” Tobias asked. Everyone’s attention turned to the brothers. “My mother was-she was an angel. She never spoiled us, but always made sure we were loved. She always said to stay humble and never take. That we were givers. Not takers. I don’t remember before our memories were wiped. I don’t remember my father either,” Blake answered. Devon looked sad, “same as Blake. Our mother always said that one day, we would win great battles. I always thought she meant internal battles because she always showed us to be kind, honest and helpful. Be the light in the dark.” Devon looked at Blake. “Neither of you remember your father?” I asked. They shook their heads no and we all fell silent. None of us even realized that king Maika had requested a portal, left and returned until he came running out of it, several scrolls and leather bound books in hand. “Elias, Auteya, may I get your assistance?” Both Auteya and Elias followed king Maika through the portal and when they returned, all three of them came barreling through with carts full of scrolls and books. All looking to be ions old. “Get food ordered because we are in for a long day.” King Maika says, handing everyone their own pile of books. “These are all records, in detail of all Alpha’s and Luna’s going back hundreds of years. Many I haven’t even looked at. Devon, Blake what is your father's last name?” “Our mother's name, the one we carried, was Bauer, Harmony Bauer. But I later found that my father's name was John Morrison.” King Maika nodded, “everyone that is your mission. Find the Morrison and Bauer blood lines. Maybe we can narrow down the search. We can put aside all appointed Alpha’s and Luna’s as we know Blake and Devon are blood born alpha’s. Also, we can put aside lineages that have died off.” No one argued, everyone was intrigued about Blake, Devon and Keahi’s story. “Baby girl, go get some rest.” King Alaric cooed to Kealoha. She sighed, closed her eyes and opened them, looking rejuvenated. “Cheater,” I said, causing a smile on Kealoha’s face. “I want to help. Even if it has to do with Keahi.” Her determination was honorable. Even with his betrayal she wanted to figure him out. I’d have wanted to find him to kick his a*s, that’s about it. *** Hours later..... “I------I think I found something!” Naomi called out. She placed the parchment under the projector and we all looked at the TV screen. “Eighteen-sixty-eight?” I said in shock. “It says, Bauer, Thea. Blessed with the Luna title by the moon goddess herself?” Naomi read out loud. “Grandma!?” None of us expected a response, as we’ve all called out to her over the years, and rarely did she answer on cue. But here she was. “Hello my grand daughter.” Naomi sighed, “grandma, explain.” Grandma Anela chuckled, “what you read is true. As for answers, that is not public information. You must trust your skills and find the answers. I’m sorry. Meddling will only harm the course.” Kealoha grunted. “Princesses, especially the granddaughters of a goddess, do not grunt.” Grandma Anela chided, causing both Naomi and Kealoha to grunt. We all laughed. “I wish I knew the future, but I don’t. Somethings are fate, some your destiny, but how it turns out is all your hands. My influence will do more harm than help. Trust yourselves as I trust you. Not everything needs answers. Sometimes rolling with the information you have and letting fate lead the way is sometimes the best way.” “Maaaan-for once can’t I catch a break?” Naomi threw her head down onto the desk. “My dear, look at me.” Naomi lifted her head, with an effort I might add, “trust the path.” her grandmother said. Naomi sighed, “fine. Love you.” The moon goddess chuckled, and turned to the group, “I’d never thought to see so many different species coinciding and mounting up as a team.” She bowed at everyone, a great sign of respect from her. “My grandchildren,” she looked even at me, Oliver, Levi and the lot of us, “don’t do that Lia, you all are my grandchildren by my word; you all have my blessings.” And poof, she was gone. “Well, that was no help.” Naomi huffed. “Guess back to the books.” I began to read where Naomi had left off, “.....da-da-da-ooh there, blessed to be one of the first Luna's by the moon goddess her self. Laaa-di-dadadadada--was shown to have powers of light. Healing, aura changing, speed of light, gift of life?? Wow-similar to aunt Makana.” “I got something.” Oliver broke into my reading quietly. “Bauer, Lux. Son of Luna Thea and husband, blessed to be Alpha by the moon goddess, alpha Cyrus Castor” I shifted through pages and scanned the pages to see where and when Thea married Cyrus. “Thea and Cyrus. Married, Eighteen-seventy-two. They carried Thea’s last name, Bauer, in respect to her powers. Alpha Cyrus had no powers? Hmm?” I thought silently. I needed someone else's perspective, “what if Thea was the only gifted one? I mean, isn’t this what it says? If she carried the gifts, her mate, Alpha Cyrus, assured the bloodline to be strong, yes?” “It is highly possible that is the case. But does anywhere have information about them? Child of Light? I am a blood born Alpha, and I’ve never heard such a thing. Not even in myths or legends.” Uncle Maika sighed out. We all put the information we found about the Bauer family in a pile for future reference and dug back in to the hundreds of unattended ones. As we went along, we categorized the books and scrolls, and while we hit many dead ends, the information was quite valuable. “Lets call it a day.” I raised my head up from my book and noticed half of the group was either falling asleep or already asleep. “What time is it?” I asked, stretching my arms out. “Eleven at night. We’ve been at it all day.” Devon says, almost in a defeated tone. “Me and my men will keep going. Go get some rest, all of you.” I nodded in agreement with uncle Alaric and stood. I walked around waking everyone up to go to their chambers. I reached Kealoha, who I noticed was curled up in a ball on one of the furthest sofas. “Where’s Christian?” Everyone looked around themselves, “don’t know. I’ll call for him to get Kealoha. You go. I got her if not,” Uncle Maika assured. Naomi was carried by Blake, Juliette by Levi, and me by Devon. “I can walk, you know.” Devon chuckled, “but how would that make me look?” I rolled my eyes, “thank you.” He placed a sparking kiss on my forehead and reveled in it. Goddess, please be with us as we take this long journey. I don’t even remember how I fell asleep or when, but the next morning I promised to find answers.
