- Rieka’s P.O.V –
I thought of Ethan’s word but I did not know what to reply. I wanted to be Luna, it’s what I’m meant to do, this is who I am, but I can’t stop thinking of my mother or Malik. Everything was so messed up when it was all supposed to be easy.
“Ethan I- “I wanted to say something but wasn’t able to finish my sentence after I felt a pain in my arms.
The moon must be controlling us by now. My arms felt like they were breaking and when I looked down at them that’s exactly what was happening. Soon, the same pain was in my legs then my back. I couldn’t help but start screaming from the pain and tears started streaming down my cheeks.
I looked at the corner of the cave and saw Ethan grunting and fighting with the chains trying to free himself.
This went on for several minutes and the pain did not lessen at any point, it was horrible. In my head, I was hearing a voice telling me to free myself and hunt anything if I wanted to feel better but I knew this was my wolf talking as an effect of the full moon so I closed my eyes trying to convince myself it’s not me wanting this.
Ethan, on the other hand, I could feel his heart beating, I knew he was angry and is about to break free. I wanted to talk to him but I couldn’t.
My claws start to come out and the black fur becomes visible it didn’t take long before I was a complete wolf and when I looked at Ethan, I could see his blue eyes in the dark. But what surprised me was how close he was getting. Did his chains break?
His nose was almost touching mine but I wasn’t scared. I heard him growl and I felt like he was angry. I was fighting my chains due to the pain but I was also focused on Ethan and what he was going to do.
His growls started getting louder and it almost looked like he was going to hurt me.
“Ethan” I tried to talk to him but he wouldn’t listen.
“Ethan calm down,” I spoke but instead he showed me his canines.
He approached me even more while I was still chained up so I had nowhere to go, he completely lost control. I wait for him to hurt me but suddenly I heard the cave's cage doors break and Ethan was out of here.
A minute later, the pain started to completely fade meaning its no longer midnight. I wanted to go back to my human form so I could get out of the chains but I also had to go search for Ethan while Malik was out there.

“Everyone, it’s past midnight, this means we have to be careful because this when the werewolves are most dangerous,” I tell the other hunters from Artemis.
“When you see one, you kill it,” I say, and they all nod.
Everyone went in a different direction so we cover more ground increasing our chances to find a werewolf. I hid between the bushes and trees so I don’t get caught and waited.
I started hearing the ruffling of the leaves around me and I knew one of them was out. I prepared my hunting rifle and aimed it to where I believed the sound was from.
Luckily, I wasn’t wrong, I peeked inside the aim glass and followed the white wolf. He was a big one too, he must be a beta. I was getting ready to pull the shot and he must’ve heard me doing it because he looked in my direction but couldn’t find me.
I smirked knowing he can’t do anything to me no matter how violent he is and I shot the bullet. However, what I didn’t expect was to shoot another wolf. From the corner of my eye, I saw a black wolf almost the same size as the white one run in its direction.
Both my bullet and the black wolf were fast and it didn’t matter which one I killed; actually, black wolves are extremely rare so it’s a win-win for me either way. Soon, I hear one of the wolves’ whimpers and my guess was the one on the floor.
I wanted to try and kill the other one but I didn’t have time. The other wolf was already searching for me so I ran in the opposite direction.
I ran out of the forest with a smile on my face, I killed a black wolf, the rarest, the strongest. Next, the Alpha.
When I got to our warehouse, I went to our gun room and placed my rifle there so I clean it and refill it later, but first, I had to go to King Aaron’s office and inform him of what happened.
“Your highness,” I opened the door and bowed my head.
“Come in, Malik,” he said and I followed his request.
“How was the hunt?” he asked.
“Better than I thought it would go,” I started and he raised an eyebrow.
“I shot a black wolf,” I smile proudly.
“A black wolf?” he spoke impressed.
“How rare to find one of that color,” he said and I nodded.
“Was it the alpha?” he asked.
“I doubt it, the wolf I shot was a female,” I explained.
“Next time you better kill the alpha. I want every wolf from Alpha Kai’s line to be dead, do you understand?” he ordered and I bowed showing my understanding and respect while he walked past me and left the warehouse back to the palace.

I broke out of the cave with anger boiling inside me, I was almost going to hurt Rieka if I hadn’t left but I could barely control myself. I was running in the woods and I must’ve killed two animals by now. I continued my run and stopped when I felt someone watching me.
Rieka previously told me that Malik and his hunters were in the woods today and I was ready to kill any one of them. I hurt a rifle click behind me so I turned around searching for the gun but never found it. Only when I heard the gunfire, I know where it was coming from. I thought the bullet was going to kill me but it never got to me.
Instead, Rieka was lying on the ground beneath me whimpering due to the bullet which was now in her flesh. The pain she felt, I could feel as well, but it didn’t hurt me as much as it was hurting her. I looked up and found a man running away, it was him. I looked at his rifle and there was a carving on it that belonged to the head hunter in Artemis…
Malik shot Rieka.
I was going to follow him and kill him but my mate was on the ground dying so I chose to stay with her and help her.
I carried her weak body on my back and walked her back to the packhouse. The night is almost over so some of the wolves must be back by now. I walked into the packhouse still in wolf form and went to my room this time.
I placed her on the floor and looked at myself in the mirror, the blood covered my white fur and it shattered me into pieces seeing this knowing it was her blood and not mine.
She saved me.
I transformed back into human form and I was completely naked, I carried her and put her on the bed slowly.
I called Luis and asked him to get the pack doctor to my room so he could remove the bullet or else she wouldn’t be able to change back and heal. By the time the doctor was here, I had clothes on clothes and was seated next to her hating myself.
If I didn’t leave the cave this would’ve never happened.
“Can you save her?” I asked.
“The bullet is lethal, but it isn’t very deep so hopefully when I remove it, she can heal by herself,” the doctor said cleaning the blood around her wound.
I stood next to him and watched him do his work. He managed to remove the bullet from her side and stop the bleeding, but she wasn’t healing.
The doctor had to stitch her up himself and asked me to wrap her torso when she transforms back to human form.
We were on our own in my room and I waited for her to change back on time before her wound opens up again and loses more blood than she already has, and luckily, she was back to human shortly after. She must’ve woken up and changed her back herself and not Rieka.
She was still passed out but if her wolf is awake, it means she’s okay. I wrapped her torso with the cloth the doctor gave me just like he asked me and laid her back down and covered her up knowing she wouldn’t want me to see her without clothes on.
Soon, her eyes started to open and when her eyes met mine, I felt better. She was okay.
“You saved me,” I told her holding her hand.
“I’m your mate, Ethan. Being away from you hurts me more than this bullet, but I can’t leave everything out of nowhere and become a Luna,” she said and I smiled.
“It doesn’t matter,” I said.
“All of that stuff doesn’t matter. I only care that you’re alive,” I continued my heart burning from the sadness.
“Why are you so sad? Your chest is burning,” She asked.
“This is what it feels when you almost lose your mate,” I explain her hand still in mine.
“This is how much a wolf loves his partner, Rieka,”
