Chapter 7: Wedding Bells!!

1840 Words
Katrina’s POV: “The world’s most eligible bachelor, Alexander Hamilton, is now out of the market. Yes, ladies, you heard it right. During the grand business event in the hotel ‘La de Voiuer’ Mr. Stuart Hamilton announced that Alexander Hamilton is engaged to Katrina Wilson.”, the anchor of BuzzTv reads the news. “Katrina and Alexander are so deeply in love with each other that they couldn’t wait to have private time. Our reporters managed to click some of their intimate photographs when they escaped from the crowd.”, she points at some photos of me and Alex being displayed on the screen.  However, the photos look intimate but only I know what disaster I witnessed that night. I don’t even want to recall that night. I managed to escape by giving an excuse for a college project. And after coming back, it felt like I spent the whole night crying and wondering.  “It is one of the best decisions for these two lovebirds. However, for some women, it was the end of their dream to be Mrs. Hamilton. Just like her.”, this time it shows the woman who created a little drama at the party. I don’t know her name. But she is young, and beautiful for sure.  “Yes, you got it right. Miss Charlotte Summer couldn’t control herself and blurted her love confession out. Oh, poor woman. Today, the lovely couple is getting married at St. Thomas church. After exchanging their rings, the reception ceremony will take place at Maria Hotel. In the end, we would like to congratulate the couple…”, before she could finish Joanna turns off the television.  “It has been three days and the news channels are flooded with your wedding news. Don’t they have any other news.”, she makes a bored face. I could only chuckle in response.  “Mrs. Gambon, don’t make her hair puffy from this side. Keep her simple. She is naturally beautiful. Don’t overdo”, Joanna instructs my stylist.  We both are in my house, my room, getting ready for the wedding. It has been four hours getting locked in this room. And now, with each passing second my nervousness is increasing.  “Joanna, come and see her.”, Mrs. Gambon calls Joanna to check on my makeup after she finishes.  Joanna stands up, picking up her dress as she walks to me. “Wow. Perfect, Mrs. Gambon.”, she beamed aloud. Grabbing my shoulders she pushed me until we reached the full-length mirror. “Kate stand up and look yourself in the mirror. I swear Alex’s knees will go week seeing you.” She giggled and turned around. Rising her hands up she starts speaking dramatically, “When you’ll walk down the aisle, you’ll appear like an angle. Alex will feel butterflies in his stomach. Standing there he would want you to reach him quickly. Interesting, isn’t it?”, she said facing me.  “Yeah, very interesting.”, my voice full of sarcasm. She continued, “oh my God! I can’t wait to see his reaction.”  “I hope I get a niece or nephew quickly.”, she said teasing me. “Why not both? Haha.”, she laughs at her own joke.  Just then we hear a knock on our door. “Joanna, is Katrina ready?”, and I know that the owner of this voice is Mrs. Hamilton.  Controlling her laughter, Joanna turned to me. Wiggling her eyebrows she asked for my permission. I give her a nod. “Yes, mom. She is ready. You can come in.”, Joanna replies.  I take a deep breath.  The door lock clicks indicating that Mrs. Hamilton is coming in. The door opens ajar and here enters Mrs. Hamilton wearing an emerald green dress.  We must be at least a few meters apart and from this distance, even I can tell that the royal velvet fabric is used to make this gorgeous dress. The neckline is laced with diamonds which is perfectly matching with her tiffany and co. earrings. Her ring has a Dresden Green diamond, a rare green diamond. It shines brilliantly as she walks.  After 20 years, she still looks young and cheerful. Tall and slim. Though she is surrounded by luxury, ego, and arrogance couldn’t touch her. She is as humble and calm as her husband.  When she is close to me, she smiles at me. “Katrina, I always knew you are a beautiful girl. But it never occurred to me that you’ll be this beautiful.”, she chuckled at the last part. And I know she is trying to reduce my nervousness.  Bearing a serious expression, she adds, “Katrina, you look really beautiful. Let’s hurry up and let others keep waiting.”  Kissing my cheeks she takes my hand and we make our way downstairs.  “Caroline look our girl looks like a fairy fallen from heaven.”, Mrs. Hamilton beams when she spots my mom. My mom was instructing some of the servants. And when she heard Mrs. Hamilton she turned around and looked at us.  Her eye lit up with happiness and shine with unshed tears. She could only mutter, “Oh! Kate.” My chest tightens seeing her in this state. I never wanted to leave her. What will I do without her? What will she do without me?  Without me knowing my legs take me to her. “Mom!”, I hug her and cry. Simultaneously, sobs escape her lips. When it felt like an hour Joanna interrupted us, “Don’t cry ladies. You are gonna spoil your makeup. Have mercy on Mrs. Gambon’s hard work.” This woman always knows how to cheer us up. “Joanna.”, Mrs. Hamilton scolds her. She shrugs in response.  “Let’s go, Kate”, mom speaks letting go of me. I watch her wipe her tears and I also do the same. But careful enough to not spoil my makeup. However, it makes no sense to me but still, I have to show it to others.  “Caroline, Kevin is coming. He and Kate will be in the same car while we three will be in mine.”, Mrs. Hamilton informs mom.  As we took another step to the door, I spot my father entering the house.  He is wearing a three-piece gray suit. He looks handsome but something is adding another thousand-watt to his smile. His face is glowing with happiness.  “Kate, my girl. How are you?”, dad asks me while giving me his warm hug.  “Yeah, dad. I am good.”, I reply. “Let’s go. Everyone is waiting for the beautiful bride.”, Mrs. Hamilton speaks. As decided, I and dad settle in our car, which is decorated with flowers, and mom, Mrs. Hamilton, and Joanna are in another car. As we get closer to the St. Thomas Church, my hands are sweating more and more because of the increasing nervousness.  My heart skipped a beat when the car came to halt. My dad grabs my hand which is resting on my right knee. Taking a deep breath, I turn to him. “Are you confident with your decision, Kate?”, dad asks me for the last time.  My mind is a mess right now. I can’t think anything other than Alex’s rude behavior that night. When I didn’t answer him he continues, “I know you love him. But you sure you want to marry him?” My eyes widen in surprise. I turned to him and he just smiled at me. “Yes, I know it. But the main question is do you want to marry him?”, he says.   Do I really have to do this all? Should I marry him?  Yes, I have to. For everyone, I have to.  Taking a deep breath I nod. A smile appeared on his face as well as in his eyes. I know he was confused and sad. But he is very good at masking his emotions. And being his daughter I know what he thinks.  He gets out of the car, comes to my side, and taking his hand I come out. Joanna comes and stands beside him. She hands me the bridal bouquet that she worked so hard to make. She had ordered the best flower sellers to deliver the most beautiful flowers and tied it up on her own. She is so sweet. I am going to miss her. And then she pulls down my veil, smiling. She leans down and hugs me, “Congratulations, Kate” she whispers. “Thank you, J.”, I say.  I turn to face the St. Thomas church and am left stunned by seeing its beautiful decoration. The white marble is covered with red roses in such a way that they form a great combination. It appears like white and red roses are used.  The scene is romantic and lovely.  We move forward, with me holding my fathers arm. I can see a lot of people gathered around when we enter the hall. The music starts playing. Through my veil, I can see Alex standing on the stage looking more handsome in his black three-piece suit. His hair is set perfectly. He stands rigid with Mr. Hamilton right behind him. When I was half the way to reach the stage, the crowd chuckles seeing Mr. Hamilton nudging Alex to come to me. He gives Mr. Hamilton a boring look before moving.  Seeing him approach me, my heart picks up the speed. It beats so loudly that I doubt the crowd might hear it. He stops right in front of me. Raising his hand, he nods and asks me to take his hand. Dad gives me an assuring nod before putting my hand in Alex’s.  As my skin made a contact with his, electric sparks shot from the point of contact and traveled to the whole body before ending in my heart. I know he also felt the same because he withdrew his hand for a second.  Ignoring all the emotions we reach the stage. The priest begins the formalities and soon he turns to Alex.  “Do you, Alexander Stuart Hamilton take Katrina Katherine Wilson as your wedded wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do you part?”, the priest speaks. Alex does not speak for a minute and my heart stopped working. The crowd starts whispering. But to everyone’s relief, he says, “I do.”  “Oh! He is shy.”, comments one of his friends, and the rest of the crowd bursts into laughter.   The priest smiles and turns to me. The same set of vows and I answer, “I do.”
