CHAPTER 4

Marianne POV I waited for Mr. Rogers for more than thirty minutes but he didn't show up and when I couldn't bear it anymore, I asked my PA to confirm his presence in the company. A few minutes later, he returned saying Mr Rogers left about thirty minutes ago. "But why didn't he visit my office?" I wondered aloud. Whenever he arrives for inspection, he never misses my office. But why today? Was it because I hit that man? I can explain if he wants. I was still in this dilemma when Carlton called my phone. He asked me to meet him at the airport which I readily agreed to because I wanted to get my mind off the issue invading my peace. As his plane was running through the tarmac, my phone began to buzz. I brought it out of my purse only to see Mr. Rogers name blaring on the screen. With my heart in my mouth, I swiped right before placing the phone on my ear. "Miss Marianne" he called in his usual manner "Sir" "The CEO wants to see you in thirty minutes at his office in his five star hotel" Carp! Mr. Rogers had reported my action to the CEO. Now, Ferdinand would relieve me of my job. I wasn't going to let that happen. I would make sure I explain myself properly to him. "Are you there?" Mr. Rogers asked. "Yeah! I'm on my way now" I replied before he hung up. One thing I was grateful for was, twenty minutes was all I needed to drive from the airport to the venue of the meeting. But my hopes were crushed when my car suddenly developed a fault. I had to fix it because I detested using public transportation. And by the time the mechanic was done, I had just five minutes left. "Ferdinand will understand." I assured myself as I drove towards his hotel. Unfortunately for me, there was heavy traffic on the highway. I was yelling in frustration as I slapped my head continuously. After all the turmoil, I arrived at the hotel, an hour later. I rushed towards the elevator then began to punch the button of the fifth floor furiously. I was thirty minutes late for the meeting with the CEO. No doubt he would be angry with me. Immediately the elevator arrived at my destination, I dashed out of it and ran all the way to his office which was the last one on the fifth floor. When I got to his office, the door was slightly opened; an indication that someone was inside. I took a deep breath to regulate my breathing rate before I rapped on the door softly. I didn't receive an immediate response, this made me begin to doubt if someone was inside as I had earlier thought. I was about to turn away when a deep voice which no doubt came from the office stopped me on my track. "Come in" the voice said I exhaled in relief before pushing the door in. "Good day sir, you sent for me" I said with a bow. I showed him respect because he deserved it. The supposed CEO didn't respond; rather, he turned his back on me. I didn't take his action seriously, and so I began to apologize "I'm sorry. I went to bid a relative goodbye. The moment I was informed, I made a U-turn but my car got spoiled. By the time it was back on the road, time was far spent and the traffic was terrible." I explained "Marianne Collins." the CEO called with his deep voice "Sir," "How long have you been the manager?" "Two weeks." "And you're already acting on your own." "Sir, I delegated the duties before taking my leave. I didn't intend to spend the whole day out there." I said, raising my voice slightly. I had zero tolerance when it comes to someone saying stuff I hated to hear. "Really?" He chuckled as he turned to face me. Slowly, he pushed his messy hair which covered his eyes above his brow so that I would have a proper view of his face. "Holy cow," I muttered, pressing my back against the wall. I was surprised to see the same man I had harassed a few hours ago sitting in the office of the CEO. I blinked severally to confirm the sight before me. "You look surprised. Have we met before?" He smirked. He chuckled slightly before he let go of his hair. I didn't need a soothe teller to inform me that my job was at stake. At once, I fell on my knees, burying my head in my palm, and I began to sob. "I'm sorry sir, please forgive me. I was pissed. Sir, believe me, I'm not a bad person..." I continued to rap while he tapped the butt of his pencil on the mahogany table. When I looked up, he had a devilish smirk at the edge of his lips. I guess he was having a nice time watching me beg. "Sir, please forgive me. I promise to make it up to you, sir..." He allowed me to keep pleading for about fifteen minutes before he hushed me. "I never knew a badass could plead" he smirked Tears were streaming down my face as I kept rubbing my palms together. "Sir..." He hushed me with the death glare he sent my way. Losing my job meant losing everything and I was not prepared to return to Canada empty. I wished I had listened to mom who had warned me severally to mind the way I address people regardless of their status. I wiped my eyes with the back of my palm then continued muttering pleas and after what seemed like forever, he turned to my direction. Shaking his head, he reached out to a brown envelope then handed it to me "Miss Marianne Collins, your services are no longer needed. You can try somewhere else." he said without emotion "Sir..." "You heard me." he smirked "Sir please don't do this to me. Please sir, I promise I'll change." I cried but he was unmoved. His mind was already made up. He rose and with graceful steps made his way towards me, just as he was about to speak, his phone rang, hushing him.
