Chapter 20May 28, 1889 Sunrise lay like an invocation over the town the next morning as Zach helped Mary Ann into the borrowed buggy. Emily stood by, watching their preparations, blinking back her tears. She told herself they would be all right, that the journey would end well. Tonight Zach would be back, flushed with success and eager to tell her the tale. She had only to wait that long. Curly Prentiss and three other cowboys rode up to join them, rifles in their saddle scabbards and pistols around their waists. Their cow ponies snorted and pranced, eager to be off.
