The Sorting

Circe and the group of children she was with followed Mrs. Yearlingly to a small circular room inside the supposed school. Mrs. Yearlingly left the room after telling the kids "someone will return soon to collect you." After she left, Circe and her new-found friends - Lillian and Charlie - found a few seats and sat down to wait for the person that was supposed to come collect the group. After waiting about ten minutes, a small and squat man that looked to be in his seventies walked through the door and announced to the small group," Good evening children, if you would follow me please I will take you to the sorting ceremony." All the kids - including Circe, Lillian, and Charlie - followed the old man out of the small room and into a large dining hall, there was at least 2 hundred kids already separated and seated between 2 tables. All of them watched the newcomers as the line Circe was in followed the old man to a stage at the front of the room where Mrs. Yearlingly was standing next to a wand on a pedestal. The kids in line all nervously lined up in front of the stage to be sorted. "Now, there are 2 houses in which you will be sorted into," Mrs. Yearlingly announced to the line. "The house names are Ravenscroft and Whitlock." The kids in line all glanced around timidly as if to figure out which house they would be best in. Mrs. Yearlingly started to call each kid's name one by one, starting with a little boy by the name of Collen Cromwel, he was sorted to the Whitlock house when the wand glowed red and silver. After a couple more kids in the line, Mrs. Yearlingly called Charlie Malinea to be sorted - he was sorted to Ravenscroft- then Lillian was called up. She looked quite nervous as she sat on the stool and Mrs. Yearlingly handed her the wand. After a few seconds, the wand glowed blue and gold - the colors of house Ravenscroft- and Lillian stood with a bright smile on her face heading over to join her brother at the table to the left. Then Circe was called up. Scared and nervous about which house she would be sorted to, Circe went up to the stool and sat. Mrs. Yearlingly handed Circe the wand, Circe closed her eyes and when she did, a voice rang through her head, "Hello and what may i do for you today child?" Circe jumped as she was startled by the voice "u-um I guess I am here to be sorted?" Circe replied to the voice. "Very well child... you seem to be timid but i can tell you are smart, you shall be sorted to Ravenscroft" At these words Circe opened her eyes to see the wand glowing blue and gold. She stood up and handed the wand to Mrs. Yearlingly, then headed offstage to sit by Lillian and Charlie. After the last 8 kids were sorted -3 to Ravenscroft, the rest to Whitlock - Mrs Yearlingly carried the stool and wand offstage, then returned to address all the students. "Now that this year's sorting is complete, I think we all should eat i know I'm quite hungry and i can bet a cauldren pasty you all are too, so let the feasting begin!'' and with those words, She raised her own wand and both tables filled with food that looked and smelled quite delicious. All the students started to fill their plates with different types of food including turkey, yams, green beans, buttered bread, and a bunch of stuff that Circe couldn't identify. Circe followed the other students' example and started to fill her own plate. After all the students ate dinner and the dishes clean themselves - due to Mrs. Yearlingly's magic - dessert appeared and the students preceded to fill up on that too. Soon all the kids where full and some sat back in their chairs to relax. Mrs. Yearlingly stood to address the room again, "now that our bellies are full and we are all content i have some announcements. First to all new students, and some old students, do remember that you cannot leave school grounds without permission, doing so can result to detention, loss of privileges, or expulsion. also to all students, no one is allowed to enter the fourteenth floor. if you find yourself there i urge you to leave immediently for not doing so can result in a very gruesome and terrible death. And last, Caretaker Thornfield wants me to remind all students that no vongdung bombs and other mess-creating things are not allowed on school grounds, possessing any of them will result in detentions and confiscation of that item, That is all so follow your house heads to your dorm and have a good rest breakfast is at 9 o'clock sharp and this years' schedules will be handed out tomorrow at breakfast." All the students stood up and an older student from Ravenscroft said, "Follow me Ravenscrofts, this way please" as she led the way to the Ravenscroft house dorms.
