Chapter 3

1060 Words
Lacy’s POV It felt as if I had walked into a cold room. Alpha Rafael just remained seated behind his desk, his piercing gaze following my movement. Something was different about the man. Usually, his gaze was intrusive but in a way that turned me on and invited me in. Right now, I felt like a mouse in a lion’s den. Every fiber of my being was telling me to get out of there as quickly as I could. I did not understand what was going on, “Is this not a good time?” I chucked, trying to break the ice. “It was fun while it lasted. It is over now,” his chilly voice greeted me and froze me in place. My mouth hung open as I stared at him. He had made no motion to get up, to greet me with an embrace and a kiss like he usually did. I forced a smile and willed my legs into moving forward towards the minibar to the right. He just kept watching me, his fingers interlocked, and his elbows on the varnished and polished table. My hands were shaking when I held the bottle and spilled the content all around all in the name of pouring myself a drink. “Do you want one?” I asked, trying to sound as causal as possible, I failed. He didn’t respond. “I will pour you one,” I said more to myself than to him. I carried the two glasses back and dropped one on a pad for him while I held the other in my hand. “You – you… you…” my throat clasped up, and I found it impossible to make a sentence. I downed the glass of iced Scotch. The liquid courage was what I needed right now, “Is this why you asked me to come?” I finally managed to get the word out. “Alpha, if I did anything wrong, give me the opportunity to make up for it, please,” I dropped to my knees. His gaze hadn’t left me since I walked in. Now he reached for the glass. I dropped and emptied the content in one shot and then got up. My eyes looked up at him pleading, my throat burned and felt constricted again, there was a lot I wanted to say, to ask, but I could not manage to let the words out. He walked past his desk, each step calculated and slow. He paused at my side and looked down at me. I could not recognize the man that was staring down at me, eyes that once burned fiercely with passion were now cold and repelling. Before he even spoke, his gaze alone cut my heart in two, and I gasped. “Feel free to have another drink, take the bottle if you want, pull yourself together… and be gone before I get back.” A piercing pain radiated from my left chest and ran across to the right, causing me to clutch my chest suddenly and wheeze. He scoffed at my reaction and then walked out the door. When I heard the door click behind me, I broke down. What did I do? Why was this happening now? It still felt so unreal. How did someone turn from loving to whatever this was so quickly? The tears flowed freely down my cheeks as I forced myself to stand. My legs wobbled, but they held my weight, I sniffled. Disobeying a command from my alpha was something not even a broken heart would allow me to do. I wiped my tears with the back of my hand as I stumbled towards the door. My head spun, my heart tore at me, and my throat made breathing almost impossible as I stumbled towards the narrow corridor that led to the servant exit. “It is you, isn’t it?” a rich female voice called from behind. I paused, sniffled, and then turned around. The woman in front of me now was dressed in a corporate purple and black attire. She looked vaguely familiar, but I could not place where I had seen her before. On top of that, she had unnaturally pale skin with blonde hair. I squinted as the tears stung my eyes as they began to flow once more. “I suppose I have you to thank for keeping his bed warm for me,” she smirked as she took a step further. I squinted, keeping his bed warm? Who was she referring to? Alpha Rafael? She chuckled as she came closer, “Mhh,” she said as she ran her fingers through my hair, “Not bad, my mate has good taste,” she smacked her lips. Before I could stop myself, my left hand flew forward and smacked her hand away from my hair, “Don’t touch me!” I snarled. “Oh… feisty,” she laughed in my face. “What did you just say?” I took a menacing step forward, my wolf rising to the surface and fighting to take control. She didn’t move an inch. The smile on her face only grew wider, “Wait… he didn’t tell you? Oh, poor, poor you.” “Tell me what?” I snarled as Kira, my wolf, rose closer and closer to the surface. “Why he ended things with you, of course,” she chuckled in my face. I fought the tears and pain that was swelling within me, my last restraints were about to snap, my face was red now, veins bulging on my temple. The smile vaporized from her face, and she scowled at me, reached out, and poked me with her right index finger. “You had your fun, but he is mine now. I am going to be Luna and there is nothing a sneaky w***e like you or anyone else can do about it.” Something within me snapped when I heard those words, white light exploded in front of my face and when I finally regained my vision, my claws were out and dripping with blood and I was snarling. The blonde deathly pale woman was on the floor yelling and clutching her left hand that bore four red livid claw marks. “Help, she is trying to kill me!” she yelled.
