Late June 1940 Late June 1940Late June 1940It was a beautiful day for a wedding. Even Hetty, who didn’t consider herself the least bit romantic, had to admit the weather was perfect. She stood in a lavish bedroom at the Lonsdale family estate and studied the grounds below through the window. Lebanon cedar trees planted more than a century ago edged the vast lawn of the estate like old guards. She placed her palm on the windowpane, soaking in the late spring sunlight through her fingers.
