Chapter 16

"Why don't you get cleaned up, and if you're still up for it, I'll take you shopping?" Liam said as we climbed the stairs. "That sounds good." He leaned down and quickly pecked my lips. "You looked so good in that suit. Actually, you just looked good, period. "Thank you." I said. "Mmm mmm." He hummed from the step below me. "What?" I questioned. "I've got the best view I've ever seen going up these stairs right now." He growled and slapped my butt. I giggled and hurried up the stairs. Liam, hot on my heels. I quickly opened my bedroom door but before I could close it, Liam had braced himself against it. "Where do you think you're going?" I asked slyly. "Well, I'm all hot and sweaty from that run." "And, you stink". I added. "And, I stink. I was thinking you have a shower in your room that would help me get cleaned up." He winked. "Liam?" A voice called from behind us. Liam turned around and I saw Rachel standing behind him. "Hi Rachel." I tried to be kind. "Baby, where have you been? I've been looking all over for you". She ignored me. Liam sighed and stepped out of my doorway. "I'll be back later for you, Kyrie." He smiled at me. I closed the door and pressed my ear against it as hard as I could. "Look, Rachel, I know we haven't had a chance to really talk about this lately, but I told you, Kyrie is my mate. Things are going to be different between us now. You can't call me baby anymore. I'm not your baby now." At least he was keeping his word. He really was breaking things off with her. I heard Rachel begin to sob. I started to feel sorry for her again. "Sweetheart, please don't cry." Liam consoled her. "Come on. Let's talk in my room." It made me uncomfortable that they were going to his room. But I had to trust Liam that he would do right by me. It was going to be hard for Rachel, and I understood that. He needed to be there for her. I had to believe that he wasn't going to lie to me. Rachel's sobs faded as I heard them walk down the hall and into Liam's room. I sank to the floor and leaned my head against the door. "Trust him Ky. Colt wants us. Not Rachel." Natalie tried to comfort me. "I know. It's hard though." "It is. But I believe Colt. He won't do anything with Rachel." "Colt might not do anything, but I'm not so sure about Liam." I got up and headed for the shower. I sat in the shower for a good while. I didn't want Rachel to ruin our day, but I was worried that I wouldn't see Liam again tonight. I wasn't sure whether I should bother getting ready to go out or not. I decided that I would get cleaned up, and watch a movie in bed. I didn't want to get my hopes up, only to be disappointed if he didn't show. I stepped out of the shower and dried off. Slipping into some comfy sweat pants and a tank top. I quickly ran downstairs and made my way to the kitchen. "Excuse me." I asked one of the girls in the kitchen. "Yes Luna?" Her big doe eyes were a beautiful ocean blue color, which was offset by her fiery red hair. "Oh, please don't call me that. I'm not your Luna. Just Kyrie. Do you know where I can find the popcorn?" She walked over to a large cupboard and retrieved a packet of microwave popcorn. "Here you go." "Thank you, um..?" "Sammie." "Oh, Sammie, nice to meet you. Thank you for the popcorn." "Would you like me to microwave it for you?" "No thanks. I got it." I wandered over to the microwave. I sat on the counter as I watched Sammie and a few other girls fussing around the kitchen. They must be omegas that worked here. A couple gals were cleaning while the rest were prepping for dinner. I grabbed my popcorn and headed back up the stairs to my room, waving at Sammie on my way out. There was still no sign of Rachel or Liam. I wondered if I should listen in their room. "Do it." Natalie urged. "I don't want to get caught". "But it would be nice to know what's going on. It's been a while, and they're still in there." "Yeah, but knowing my luck the second I put my ear up to the door someone's going to open it." "Just walk by. You could hear if they're doing anything". "No. I can't Nat." I pushed her aside and closed my bedroom door. I was so curious to know what was going on with Rachel. It had been over a half hour since he went with her to his room. I'm sure nothing good was going to come from this. I flopped down on my bed and opened the bag of popcorn. Snuggling down in my covers I flipped through the movies until I settled on a horror flick. I enjoyed a good scary movie. They were never really scary though. They tried too hard and ended up being corny, or gory. I couldn't stand the hack 'em up, bloody, gory movies. That wasn't entertaining or scary. I had a mission to find a movie that truly scared me, but so far that mission was unfulfilled. I was about halfway through the movie and all of the way through my popcorn when there was a knock at my door. "Come in". I yelled. "Hey Ky. I missed you at dinner. "Yeah, I grabbed some popcorn and decided to watch a movie." I said as I paused it. "I thought you and Liam had a date tonight?" She flopped down on the pillow next to me. "I thought so too." "What happened?" "Rachel. She appeared outside of my room the second we got back. Liam took her back to his room to talk. But I'm not sure they were only "talking"." "Oh. Sorry love." "Yeah, well...I can't say I didn't expect it." "He was down at dinner with her." Ari informed me. "I'm not really surprised. Were they flirting with each other?" I had to know. "Um, sort of. Rachel kept kissing up on Liam, he wasn't stopping it, but he wasn't really encouraging it either." "Oh well. It is what it is, I suppose." I pouted a little. Things had been going so well today, then Rachel just had to step in and ruin it. I wasn't going to fight for Liam. I wasn't going to be a side piece. If he wanted me, he was going to have to work for it now. "What are you watching?" Ari changed the subject. "Scary movies. This one's about paranormal investigators and a haunted house. It has some jumpy parts, but it isn't really scary " "Mind if I join you?" "Not at all". "Sweet! I'll grab us more popcorn!" She bounded out of the room in a flash. I sighed and stared up at the ceiling. I wasn't going to be mad, but I was bummed. "Just do your own thing Ky. You don't need a man. This might end up being your new pack, but Liam doesn't have to be your man." I tried to console myself. Before I knew it Ari was back in my bed with two bags of popcorn and several different varieties of Candy. We watched a couple different horror movies before drifting off to sleep.
