Chapter 14

“Jensen. I’m glad I caught you.” “What’s up Ky?” Jensen had just finished training with the rest of the pack. Sweat glistened off his chiseled abs. Sandie ran up behind him and wrapped her arms around his neck, planting a kiss on his cheek. “Hey Kyrie. How are you doing?” A look of genuine concern spread across her face. “I’m doing good. I actually came to say goodbye.” “Oh? You’re leaving?” She questioned. “Yeah. I um…” “Liam?” Jensen laughed. “Did you two make up?” “We did.” I smiled at her. “Are you happy?” Jensen inquired. “Yes, Jensen. I am. Liam promised me some things, and if everything works the way we have planned, it should be a good life.” “I’m happy for you, if you’re happy for you.” He hugged me so tightly I could barely breathe. “I’m happy for you as well, but I’m worried about what Rachel has in store for you. Especially when she sees you come back. I don’t want anyone to get hurt.” “I’ll be fine.” I assured Sandie. “Liam wants to throw a big gala for her. He wants to invite all of the single guys around so that she can find her mate. I promised Liam I would do everything I could do to help her. “That’s great Kyrie, it really is, but just watch out for her. She can play dirty, and she isn’t used to not getting what she wants.” “Thank you for the heads up Sandie. I do appreciate it.” I gave her and Jensen both a big hug. “I just couldn’t leave without saying goodbye first.” “I’m glad you came.” Jensen released his grip and I started to cry. I can’t believe I am going to leave my best friend. “Hey, no crying!” He gently wiped my tears away. “I’m really glad I know you two are just best friends, or I'd be really jealous right now.” Sandie joked. “Oh, you don’t have to worry about me and this dude. Jensen is like my brother.” I laughed and stuck out my tongue. “That would just be gross!” “Hey now. I have feelings.” He winked at me.. “You better keep in touch Ky. I mean it.” “You too Jay. Don’t think just because I’m not here that means that I don’t want to know what happens every minute of your day.” I laughed. “Hey Kyrie. Are you ready to go? The cars are all loaded up.” Liam interrupted us. “Wait, you’re really letting her take her truck again after she just used it as a getaway vehicle?” Jensen just couldn’t help himself. I shot him a dirty glance. There was no way I was going to leave my truck behind. “Yeah, I thought about that. But she said if she goes, the truck comes with her.” Liam wrapped his arms around my shoulders and pulled me into his muscular chest. I could hear his heartbeat and it made mine skip a beat. This man was so incredibly good looking. I can’t believe that he was actually going to be mine. I just hope that he gets his anger under control. I don’t care how attractive he is, I wouldn’t be putting up with any violence. “So, I guess the truck comes with us.” Liam finished. “Sandie, I wish you much happiness here. Jensen, I trust you will take good care of her. Treat her well. She’s an amazing girl. We are all sad you are leaving.” “I will.” Jensen squeezed Sandie into his body and planted a passionate kiss on her lips, making her blush. “I expect the same from you. Ky is my best friend and she is like a sister to me. She is a very kind soul and deserves to be spoiled.” “I will treat her well. Better than I did before. You have my word.” They shook hands and Liam hugged Sandie before we turned to head back to the pack house. “It’s about time!” Riley shouted from the SUV. “I have a pit stop with a bag of chips and candy with my name on it! Lets goooooo!” He emphasized the last letter and slapped the side of the car. “One minute. I need to say goodbye to my family.” I pulled myself free of Liam and bounded into the pack house. Being back at Liam’s pack was intimidating. Everyone was staring and whispering as I walked into the pack house, bags in tow. I had yet to see Rachel, but I knew that I would be seeing her when I came back down for lunch. “Don’t worry about them.” Liam must have sensed my nerves. “I will show them what you are to me, and to this pack. Let’s drop these bags in your room and head down for lunch.” “Are you even hungry after all of those snacks?” We had stopped for snacks for the road at Riley’s request. He and Liam just about bought out the entire store. “Yes. I need real food. Besides, Riley ate most of it.” “HEY! It was equal parts he and I.” Riley defended himself. “But I sure could go for a good burger!” “KYRIE! I knew you would be back!” Before I knew it Ari had bounded down the stairs and wrapped her arms around my neck. “I’m so glad you're back.” “Thanks Ari.” I returned the embrace. “I’m going to put my bags in my room, then come down for some lunch. I’ll see you then?” “Absolutely! We didn’t get to go to that spot Cole and I we’re talking about. We need to plan it for tomorrow!” “Wait, you’re taking her to Silver falls?” Riley perked up. “Yeah, we planned too anyway. Ky says she loves water and wondered if we had any good swimming spots here.” Ari explained. “It’s true. We have an amazing lake by our pack and I loved going there all of the time.” “Well, if Kyrie loves the water, count me in on the trip.” Liam smiled. “Me too!” Riley said. “It’s a date then! Let's work out the details over lunch. Go get settled in, again” Ari winked at me. “and I’ll see you later.” She bounded back up the stairs, humming as she went. “She is always so positive.” I remarked. “Yeah, she’s always been like that. Definitely the happiest person I have even known. Riley lovingly stated. Liam carried my bags up to my room and sat on the bed. I began to unpack my things and return them to their places, noticing that Liam was intently watching me. “You’re very particular about your things, aren’t you.” He broke the silence. “I guess so. Why do you ask?” “Just watching you put stuff away. I noticed your system.” “I like it organized.” I explained. “I like my clothing sorted by color, then sleeve length. No sleeve to long sleeve. It makes it so much easier to find what I’m looking for or decide what I want.” “How tough is it for you to decide? You don’t have a lot of clothes.” “Yeah. All I ever really needed was jeans and tees. I’m guessing I’ll need to dress a lot nicer here?” “No. You can dress however you want. But, if you want more clothes, I’d be happy to take you shopping.” “Well, Ari and I just went a couple of days ago, and I spent way more than I should have.” I caught his face fall from a wide grin to a dejected frown. “But, it probably wouldn't hurt to get some more outfits that help me blend in here.” “Blend in? What do you mean?” He looked genuinely confused. “Well, I only have jeans and t-shirts. Aside from the few skirts and dresses I purchased with Ari and Cole. I noticed a lot of people here wear similar, but on a nicer scale. All of my jeans are really worn. The bottoms are all shredded from working the ranch.” I picked up a pair of jeans and tossed them at him. He fiddled around, looking at the tattered hems and the holes where the belt loops had ripped free of the waistline. “They’re all like this?” “Yes. I never really had a need to dress nicer. And I rode a lot, so I never cared to have nice jeans. They would just wear out quickly anyhow. Not to mention, my boots.” “What about your boots?” I kicked them off at his feet. “Wow”. He said as he twirled them around in his hands. How many times have you glued these back together? He chuckled. “I think I was on round three. I meant to buy new ones, but I never got around to it. We always had better things to spend our money on and I couldn’t justify spending a couple hundred dollars on shoes when these ones would work just fine with a little glue.” “Let me take you shopping, please.” He gently put my boots down and wrapped his arms around my waist. I could definitely get used to this attention. “I’m not really a huge fan of shopping.” I giggled, but a look of sadness crossed his face. “Okay.” He said and he sat back down on the edge of my bed. “I’m sorry. Did I do something wrong?” I asked. “No. Not at all.” He smiled awkwardly. I could tell it was forced and something was bothering him, but he wasn’t letting the reason out. “Finish putting your things away and we’ll grab some food.” “Okay.” I turned back to the closet and finished putting my clothes away. “Kyrie, are you not wanting to spend time with me?” He called out to me from the bed. I poked my head out of the doorway. “No. Why would you think that?” “Well, I don’t really blame you for not wanting to spend time with me. You just said you weren't a fan of shopping, but you went with Cole and Ari. You just stood here and showed me all of your old clothes and said how you’d like to dress a little nicer for around here, which you absolutely don’t need to worry about. The way you dress is fine. I don’t want you to change who you are just because of where you are. But I can’t understand why you would not want to go shopping, unless it’s just because of me.” “I never said no.” I leaned against the closet door frame. “You said you really don’t like shopping.” “I’m not really a fan. There’s lots of people, and I don’t really like big crowds. I’m not fashionable like Ari. I don’t know what's in style and what looks good. It makes shopping intimidating. I do need new clothing. I want to fit in around here.” “I can have Ari take you out again, then. But I want to pay for it. You can take my card. Buy whatever you want.” He began to dig through his wallet. “Liam. I appreciate the gesture, but I don’t want to go with Ari. If you want to take me out shopping, I will go with you.” “I just thought it would be a nice date. I could get to know you a little better outside of the pack.” I walked over to Liam and put my hands around his neck. He placed his hands on my waist and looked up at me. “A date it is, then.” I said. He leaned up and gently kissed my lips. His were so soft and even for a little peck, it made butterflies flutter in my stomach. “Thank you.” He smiled. I returned to the closet to finish putting away my things. “Can we find more jeans like those? Because those make your butt look amazing.” “Do you have tack stores here?” I laughed.
