Chapter 6

Riley was right. The pack was massive. There were houses everywhere. It looked like it’s own town. There were a few shops lining the roadways and even a school. It was so much bigger than home. All we had was a few dirt roads and a handful of houses. But I loved our cute little village. “Take a left here and you can’t miss the pack house.” I turned left and sure enough, straight ahead at the end of the street was a large, three story, brick manor. It was absolutely beautiful. All of the windows had the white shutters adorning them. The front porch had four white pillars supporting the second story balcony. A teal blue porch swing stood out against the red brick of the home. It looked like something out of a ‘Gone with the Wind’ Novel. “This is beautiful.” I nudged Jensen in the ribs as he bolted upright. “Woah”. He gasped “This is the pack house?” “Yep”. Riley answered. “You can park over there to the right. Most everyone here has their own vehicle, but there isn’t any assigned parking. Except for the Alpha and Luna. Right now, Rachel has her car parked in the Luna spot. So you can just park anywhere you want. I’m sure Liam will have her move it.” I parked my truck and stared in awe at the building in front of me. It was so much bigger that it looked driving up to it. “I’ll help with your bags.” Riley grabbed my suitcase and tote bag, I grabbed the other suitcase and tote bag. “Who’s ready for a tour?” It was dark by the time we had finished the tour and unloaded our luggage. Riley had shown us all around the pack house. The bottom floor was the kitchen, dining hall, banquet hall and game room, as well as several guest suites. The second floor was for the Beta and Gamma and their families. The top floor was for the Alpha and his family. My room was at the opposite end of Liam's. Rachel had moved from her home into the room next to Liam’s, and his parents, brother and sister took the ones in between his room and mine. Each bedroom had an attached master bath and walk-in closet. We dropped Jensen off at his room before finding mine. I set my things down and admired the beautiful bedroom furniture. The bed had a tufted blue headboard with silver accents. It was adorned with a gorgeous light blue comforter that had that most beautiful white lace trim. It was finished off with a light beige, tulle bedskirt. Each side of the bed had a dark, cherry wood night stand, and a large matching dresser stood against the wall opposite the balcony’s french doors. The door windows were covered with blue curtains that matched the comforter. The wall opposite the bed had a very large, wall mounted TV attached to it, and beneath the TV was a beautiful table. In the corner was a large sofa and two matching chairs. “We should probably go let Liam know you’re here now.” Riley’s voice broke in. I set the rest of my bags down and followed him down the stairs to the second floor. We stopped at the first door by the stairs. It was a beautiful solid oak door. I could hear muffled laughter coming from the opposite side. I could feel a tugging in my chest and I knew it was the mate bond. This was Liam’s office. Riley knocked on the door. "Come in”. I heard Liam’s voice happily answer. Riley opened the door to reveal a sight that almost brought me to my knees. Liam was sitting behind his desk, and Rachel was plopped in his lap. He was twirling her soft blonde hair around his finger as she tucked her head into his neck. She shot me a wicked glance, and continued to playfully kiss Liam’s neck. “You’re late.” I stiffened at the sound of his angry voice. Nat was getting all worked up over seeing Rachel in his lap, her nose in our mate’s neck. “I’m going to kill her.” Nat said angrily. “No. We have to control ourselves.” “He shouldn’t be with another woman. We are his mate.” “I know Nat. I know. But we need to give him time. This is the love of his life. It can't be easy for him.” “He doesn’t look too upset to me. If you just let me have a few minutes with her, I can solve our problem.” “No Nat. Patience.” My fists were tightly balled up and beginning to sweat. “We had a couple stops on the way for snacks.” Riley winked at me. “I said to come straight here.” Liam snapped. “What for?” I snapped back. I wanted so desperately to be the woman in his arms. It was killing me to see Rachel there. But it was also killing me to feel this way about a man I didn’t even know, who seemed to not be affected at all by our bond. Liam got up from his chair so quickly he almost tossed Rachel to the floor. She managed to catch herself and gave me the look of death. Before I knew it Liam was standing in front of me. He had cupped my chin in his hand. His face was so close I could feel his breath on mine. I breathed in his intoxicating scent. I wanted him to kiss me right then and there, but I wasn’t about to take Rachel’s sloppy seconds. “Because I told you too.” His lips were almost against mine. Maybe he did feel the mate bond. I met his gaze to see he was full of lust. He slowly licked his lips as his eyes flashed a wicked bright brown. My heart skipped a beat. “It doesn’t look like you missed me at all.” I looked past him to Rachel standing by his desk, rage engulfing her. Liam released my face and stood tall. “You are mine. You will do as I say.” “Riley told me you have no slaves here. Or am I to be the first?” For a moment I thought I almost saw hurt in his eyes, but it was quickly replaced with anger. “Leave.” He boomed. “Not a problem.” I turned so quickly I almost ran into Riley. Tears began to fill my eyes as I fled down the stairs and out the front doors. I wasn’t sure where I was going, but I just needed to go. I let Natalie take over and we booked it for the tree line. “KY! WAIT!” I heard Riley call after me. “She doesn’t know the borders or the pack yet.” He trailed off. Nat ran for what seemed like an eternity. By the time she stopped I had absolutely no clue where we were. It was dark, and we were covered in sweat. She panted heavily and curled up under a tree. We sat there and cried in silence for a moment. “Don’t let him get to you.” Nat consoled me. “Our mate seems to be a jerk”. “A complete jerk. I don’t know why I came. We should have stayed home.” “I hate to say it, but I agree with you.” Nat sounded so defeated. “Hopefully things will get better.” Nat perked up as I heard the sound of heavy footsteps approaching us. I jumped to my feet just in time to see a large, silver wolf approaching through the trees. He caught my scent and was instantly upon me. Before I could even react he had me pinned to the ground. He let out a low growl. I whimpered in return to signal my surrender. I wasn’t sure if this was a member of the pack or not. I wasn’t able to mind link him to explain who I was. I attempted to squirm free from his weight, but he growled harder. I wasn’t sure what to do. I didn’t want to fight, but I didn’t see any other way out of this. If he wouldn’t let me up, I would have to make him let me up. I attempted one last time to wiggle free of his hold. He sunk his fangs into the back of my neck. I let out a howl and reached for his leg. He flinched and recoiled his body, allowing me to get free. Nat laid down in submission, hoping that he would end the assault. He paused for a moment. I watched as his icy blue eyes clouded over. He was mind linking someone. Hopefully it was Liam. I waited to see if he would continue his attack. Nat and I laid low in the soft grass, whimpering in submission. The silver wolf paced circles around where we lay. Nat tried to sink further into the grass. I closed my eyes as the sound of heavy steps approached us from different directions. I could make out at least three more who would be joining our party. I opened my eyes to see the silver wolf staring us down. “Maybe now would be a good time to shift back, Nat. That way I can tell him who I am.” “It’s worth a try.” She said as we shifted back. The sudden shift caused the silver wolf to jump at me. He knocked me flat on my back, forcing all of the air out of my lungs. I lay rolling on the ground struggling to breath. His white fangs only mere inches from my face. I reached my arm up to push his face away when it was caught in the teeth of another wolf. I turned to see five more wolves join in the fight. The silver wolf hadn’t been calling for Liam, he had been calling for reinforcements. My arm was pulled away quickly before I could touch the silver wolf's face. He stood atop my chest still, making it all the more difficult to catch my breath. I heard an awful pop, followed by the most sickening ripping noise I had ever heard. I looked towards the black wolf, my arm still between his teeth, clamping down to my bone. I craned my neck to look towards my shoulder. I had just experienced the most excruciating pain I had ever felt and now I knew why. The black wolf had just about ripped my arm off at the shoulder. I could see blood and muscle, and lots of it. “WAIT!” I screamed at the wolves as I tried to kick the silver wolf off of me. Immediately I could feel the pain of fangs ripping my legs apart as I tried to kick. I let out the most awful, pain filled scream I could muster. I believe I could have won a lead role in a horror flick with that scream alone. “This is it nat, this is how we die.” “No. We don’t go out like this!” She bellowed. “Shift back! I’ll take them on!” “I’m afraid to shift, Nat. What will happen to my arm?” “I can fight with three legs. If we lose it, we lose it.” “I can’t get free to shift.” I argued with her. “Please, stop!” I pleaded with the wolves again. My whole body was dripping with blood. The silver wolf was digging his claws into my chest and stomach, The black wolf had released my arm, finally feeling safe that it could no longer be of any harm. “Where is Alpha Flint!” I screamed. For a moment the attack relented. The silver wolf still stood atop me, but was now staring at me with wonder. Tears streamed down my face as I tried to wiggle free from under the silver wolf’s weight. “ENOUGH!” A voice boomed from behind the wolves. The silver wolf finally removed himself from my chest. I tried to see who the voice had come from but was unable to move my neck. The soft scent of rain filled my nose. It was Liam. I rolled onto my side, dragging my badly torn arm with me. I was in the most intense pain I had ever felt. A pain I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. Every movement made me want to vomit. I struggled to my feet the best I could with a bum arm. Looking past the silver wolf I saw Riley and Liam rushing to our group. “KYRIE!” Riley’s voice was full of concern. “What happened here?” Liam shouted at the wolves. The silver wolf shifted and attempted to explain to Liam what just occurred. “I found her lying under the tree. It was her wolf. An unknown wolf in our territory. I thought she was a rogue.” “So you tried to kill her?” Liam was angry. “Alpha Flint, with the rogues being so violent lately, we thought it best to subdue her at all costs.” “It doesn’t look to me that she even fought back.” Riley quipped. “All of you look untouched. I couldn’t manage to say anything. My head was pounding. Everything was beginning to get dizzy. “I need to go home.” I was finally able to speak. I began to walk past the silver wolf when my legs gave out completely. I tried to catch myself but with only one working arm, it was a failed attempt. I landed straight on my face. “Get her to the hospital, NOW!” I heard Liam shout. I was swiftly cradled into someone's arms. “It’s going to be okay Ky. Stay with me.” Riley said softly into my ear. Every step he took sent pain rippling through my body. I softly whimpered as tears continued to run down my face. That’s when everything went black. * * * * * I woke up to the soft beeping of a machine. My left arm had so many tubes and needles in it, I looked like a robot. Feeling no pain in my right shoulder I quickly reached up to make sure my arm was still there. “Good” I whispered as I confirmed it was. I didn’t feel much pain. Most of the cuts on my legs and chest had healed, but there were still some larger wounds that hadn’t. “I need to go home.” I mumbled as I got out of bed. I searched around for my clothes, but remembered I didn’t have any. I guess the hospital gown would have to do. Attempting to walk out the room I was stopped by a sharp tugging in my left arm. I pulled all of the iv’s and heart monitors and whatever else I was connected to out of my arm and made my way to the door. The machine had stopped beeping and was now letting out the worst siren noise I could have heard. “Just where do you think you’re going?” I heard Liam’s sweet voice. My heart fluttered and I wished he would kiss me and make this all go away. “Home.” I said as I turned to face him. “We can go home as soon as the doctor says you can. You’ve been out for three days, Love.” “Why so long?” I questioned as he led me back into the room and on the bed. “I’m glad you’re awake!” A short, cute nurse rushed into the room and shut off the machine. “You shouldn’t have taken those iv’s out.” “Please don’t put them back in. I just want to go home.” “I will get the doctor. You’re one lucky lady. Alpha Flint hasn’t left your side for the last three days.” She winked at me as she walked out of the room. “Why did you stay here with me?” I inquired of him. He slid onto the bed next to my good arm. I was still unable to move my right arm very well. “That’s what mates do.” He gently brushed my hair out of my face. It was a tangled, matted mess, still covered in blood, saliva and dirt. I felt a tear roll down my cheek and quickly wiped it away. I didn’t want him to see me cry. “Why didn’t you fight back?” He asked. “I didn’t want to hurt them.” “You didn’t defend yourself at all.” “I did. But I didn’t want to hurt them. They were just doing their job. They didn’t know who I was or if I was supposed to be there. What happened to him?” “Who? “The silver wolf.” “I roughed him up a little. He should never have just attacked you. Especially unprovoked.” “I shouldn’t have been out there alone.” “No, you shouldn’t have.” He scolded me. “If you wouldn’t have been such a jerk, I wouldn’t have left.” His face became serious and his eyes darkened. “You have to understand, I have been with Rachel for eleven years. There are deep feelings there that aren’t easily broken.” “I understand that. But I don’t understand why you would bring me here.” “Because you are my mate. You belong here.” “But you love someone else. You don’t need me.” “I love you too, sweetheart. I love you so much it hurts. It hurts to be apart from you, it almost killed me to see how close to death you were the other night. All because I know it hurt you seeing me with Rachel. All I want to do is hold you in my arms, and kiss you all over. I want to make the hurt go away.” “I don’t share”. “What?” He was confused. “I don’t share.” I repeated. “Well, I do share, but I don’t share my men. I understand that you love her and it is going to take some time to figure out what you want, but I am telling you, I don’t share my men. I will not be your mistress while she is your Luna and your love.” “Ky…” “Kyrie, please. You haven’t earned the right to call me Ky.” “Kyrie, Look. The moment I saw you I knew you were my mate. I feel head over heels in love with you right then and there. You are gorgeous.” He twirled my disgusting hair in his fingers. “The most beautiful woman I have ever seen. You have grace and poise that I don’t often see in other women. You are mature and independent and I have already had a few run-ins with that fiery attitude of yours. Definitely will be a challenge for me. But a challenge I welcome. I love you, I want you. The bond with Rachel is fading. We aren’t mated, and I don’t plan on mating or marking anyone but you. You don’t have to worry about her, Sweetheart.” Before I could voice any more concerns there was a knock at the door. I looked up to see a very handsome doctor enter the room, holding a clipboard and flipping through papers. “Well little miss, you sure did a number to yourself.” “I didn’t do it.” I shot back. He smiled and looked up from the clipboard. “I’ve heard. So, your shoulder was dislocated and your arm almost completely torn off. You had several deep gashes to your midsection and thighs. You lost an alarming amount of blood, which caused you to not be able to properly heal yourself. You have been out cold for three days while your body recharges and rests.” “Can I go home now?” “Let me give you a once over and we’ll see how everything’s looking.” He examined all of the wounds on my legs first, then moved up to my stomach. I heard a low growl erupt from Liam. “Excuse me, Doctor. I know you’re just doing your job.” He apologized as the doctor laughed. “Let’s take a look at this shoulder, shall we.” He pulled the bandages away to reveal a pretty gruesome looking wound still. “I reset the shoulder.” He manipulated my arm as I winced in pain. Liam grabbed my hand and gave it a squeeze. He leaned in and gently kissed my forehead. Oh, how I longed for more. I could feel sparks explode from his every touch. My heart skipped beats and I felt like a giddy school girl. “Well, it still looks pretty rough. But you seem to be healing better. I don’t see why you couldn’t go home.” He looked at Liam. “If for any reason those wounds haven’t healed by tomorrow, bring her back in. I want her on strict bed rest for the rest of the day.” Liam nodded. “Well, it was nice to meet you Luna.” “Please, it’s just Kyrie, Doctor.” “Well, nice to meet you Kyrie. I do hope I don’t see you again anytime soon. At least not here.” “I hope not.” I said as he left the room. “Shall we go?” Liam put his arm around my shoulder and pulled me close, resting his chin on my head. “I don’t have any clothes.” He hopped out of bed and picked up a black duffel bag sitting on the chair. “I went through your things. I hope you don’t mind.” I rummaged through the bag and found everything I needed. “No. Thank you. Will you please turn around?” I got out of bed and began to remove the hospital gown. “It’s nothing I haven’t already seen. He joked. I shot him the most sarcastically evil glare I could. “Alright!” he put his hands up in surrender and turned around. I quickly got dressed. I was ready to go home and get cleaned up
