Chapter 4

2574 Words
I had just finished packing and was bringing things down to my truck. My head was swirling trying to process everything Jensen had told me last night. I really didn’t want to go now. Was Rachel going to make my life a livin hell? She had everything. She was acting as Luna, with a gorgeous boyfriend. They’ve been together for at least ten years, and here I stroll in and take everything away from her overnight. There was no way she was going to just let me waltz in and take everything from her. “I thought I told you to let me know when you were packed so I could have my boys take care of your luggage”. Liam pulled me from my worried thoughts. “Oh I…” “And whose truck is that? Why are you putting your bags in that truck?” “This is my truck. I’d like to take it with me.” “Okay. I’ll have one of the boys drive it over for you. You will be coming with me.” “Actually, about that…” He was such a handsome man. I couldn’t believe he was my mate. I inhaled a big whiff of his scent. “He smells like grass after a fresh rain . I want to touch him.’ Nat took over my thoughts. “Not now, Nat. We have to keep it together. He has a girlfriend, and I don’t know about you, but I don’t share very well.” “I don’t want to share my mate with anyone. But I want him so badly.” Nat whimpered. “Actually?” He had a puzzled look on his face. “I’d like to drive it over.” “I said you're coming in my vehicle.” Suddenly he wasn’t so sweet anymore. “I don’t want to get in between you and your girlfriend. I figured it would be less awkward, and more enjoyable for everyone if I wasn’t there with you two.” “You heard about Rachel.” “Yes. My friend Jensen is mated to her beta, Sandie. He filled me in.” “Is he the scent I smell all over you?” A low growl escaped his throat and anger shot through his eyes towards me. “Yes.” I gulped. I was beginning to really hate the thought of going with this man. His sweet demeanor from earlier was gone. He seemed angry with me. I couldn’t help but wonder if the nice guy I had met the night before was all a show. What was I getting myself into? “I promise you, you don’t have to worry about her. All will be taken care of. As for your friend…” “Jensen” “Jensen, I would ask that you refrain from any close contact with him, or any other male for that matter. I don’t particularly like your scent mixed with another males scent.” He was now glaring at me and I took this as more a command than a request. “Yes, Alpha.” It was okay for him to smell like Rachel, but I wouldn’t be allowed to hug Jensen anymore? This was going to be fun. “Liam.” He corrected me. “So, about my truck?” “Fine. You drive. But you will stay right behind my vehicle. Do you understand?” “I nodded as he brushed my hair behind my ears and traced his fingers down my jawline to my collar bone, where he ever so softly brushed them over the top of my bust. My hormones were going crazy as he teased me. “Control yourself.” I tried to keep an indifferent look on his face. “I wouldn’t want anything to happen to my beautiful mate.” He traced his finger up my neck and to my chin. Leaning down he planted a kiss on my lips. His lips were so soft and juicy. He was a good kisser, definitely very experienced. I could feel Natalie getting angry at the thought of him sleeping with another woman. “Cool it Nat. He had a life before us, remember?” “Yes, but I don’t have to like it.” She pouted. * * * * * “So dad, how did the alpha meeting go?” I sat down in the large, antique wingback chair across from his desk. “Much better than I anticipated. Your mother really pulled out all the stops and it seems her charm secured us all six pack loyalties.” “Dad, that’s great.” “I thought so too. I can’t give all the credit to your mother though. You being mated to the Alpha of the Silver Moon pack definitely helped. Being one of the larger packs, once Alpha Flint gave his support, the rest followed. You had a big hand in this as well.” “Dad, you’re not giving yourself credit. You’ve done a lot for this pack. Without all of your hard work, we would still be in ruin, run by a terrible leader.” “I suppose. But you’ve really started something special here.” “Yeah, I’m really going to miss home.” “How's packing going?” He inquired. “I’ve got everything packed and ready. I’m taking my truck as well. I don’t want to rely on the pack every time I need something. Plus it’d be nice to be able to just hop in my truck and head home whenever I want.” “That’s great honey. I’m really going to miss you. You know, you are welcome here anytime you want or need to come home.” He wrapped me in a big bear hug. “Thanks dad. I needed to hear that. I’m going to grab a quick nap before we hit the road. One last sleep in my room.” “Just don’t leave without saying goodbye.” “I would never.” I stood at the window in my room gazing out over the forest. I was really going to miss this place. I hope my new home will have pines, and lakes. I’m sure it would. My attention was suddenly torn away from the beautiful pines. A man and a woman approached from the side of the house into my view. They were laughing and looked very happy, walking hand in hand on the tree line. “Liam!” I whispered. He was with a cute blonde woman. She was clearly shorter than me. Most women were though. She barely came up to the bottom of his muscular chest. She was larger than me, but still fit and it seemed that everything I lacked in the bust, she made up for. “This must be Rachel.” My wolf growled. “Looks like it.” I watched as Rachel quickly turned in front of Liam, cutting him off and almost tripping him. She still had a hold of his hand and playfully ran her other hand up and down his peck. Liam gazed down at her intently with the most beautiful smile. Rachel got up on her tiptoes as Liam leaned down for her. Nat and I watched as their lips met in a passionate kiss. Her hands from his and clasped around his neck. Liam grabbed her butt and pulled it close to his body. She jumped up and wrapped her short legs around his chiseled abs. He supported her weight, his hands still caressing her rear end. I could feel a pain in my chest. Unlike anything I had ever felt before. It was like my heart was being torn apart. I knew Rachel was his long time girlfriend. I knew that their bond couldn’t be severed overnight and that this would all take some time and adjustment, but seeing my mate locked into such a passionate kiss with another female made my body quake. “That’s our mate!” Nat let out a growl that made my body rumble as I had never experienced before. I could feel her fighting for control. “We have to stop her!” “Nat, we can’t. Settle down before we do something we’ll regret.” I watched on as Rachel’s hands migrated to Liam's beltline. He gently placed her down on the ground, their lips never separating. I was starting to feel sick. I watched as he removed his pants, then hers. I saw him enter her body, I watched as she cried out in pleasure. I watched as his hands traced every inch of her body, and hers traced his. A tear slid down my cheek and without thinking, I let Natalie let out a howl. It was a cry. Filled with pain and suffering. I watched as both Liam and Rachel looked up into my window. She had a devilish grin on her face. Smug and full of satisfaction. Liam looked as if he couldn’t have cared less. “Ky? What’s the matter?” My mom had burst into my room. Jensen, my dad and Luke were right behind her in a matter of seconds. “Yeah, I’m sorry. I’m just sad about this whole thing and I let my emotions overtake me. I need to go for a run to relax.” I quickly pushed past everyone. “I'll come with you.” Jensen began to follow behind me. “NO!” I snapped at him. “Jensen, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to be a jerk.” His face was plastered with shock and hurt. “I just need to be alone right now.” I hit the top of the stairs and looked down to see Liam making his way up. I couldn't help but roll my eyes. “Ky, I..” “It’s Kyrie, to you.” I slipped between his large body and the wall. Being thin sometimes had really great perks. “Where are you going?” He demanded. By this time everyone had gathered at the top of the stairs and were witnesses to my defiance of my new Alpha and Mate. “Out, I need to go out.” “But we're leaving now.” “Well, you can leave now, or you can wait an hour.” I heard him growl at my defiance and the ultimatum I gave him. He turned to place his hand on my shoulder and I quickly dodged it. A look of shock crossed his face and his mouth dropped open slightly, stunned. Clearly he had never been rejected before. it was killing me to do so. I wanted so badly for him to hold me like he held Rachel. To kiss me with the same passion and fire he showed her. But I wasn’t about to be anyones sloppy seconds. He wasn’t going to have his cake and eat it too. He had to choose one of us. Her or me. “I’m not leaving here without my mate.” “Then you can give me an hour. Look, I don’t want to ruin anything you have going for you. I can clearly tell that I’m coming between you and Rachel.” I heard my mother gasp from the top of the stairs. Apparently, she didn’t know about the girlfriend. “I don’t expect anything to be severed overnight, but I do expect some respect as your mate and future Luna.” “You don’t have to worry about that.” There was something about the way he said that that made me feel like it was all lies. “I think maybe it would be best if you just rejected me. Here and now. Let's just get it over with and you can continue with your life, and me with mine. I don’t want to leave my home, and I’m willing to bet you don’t want to leave Rachel. We can just reject each other now and save ourselves the headache and pain. Well, I know I'll have headaches and pain, but I’m sure you’ll be fine.” Liam just glared at me. I could tell he was weighing his options. I kept pressing, even though I knew I shouldn’t have. “If it wasn’t for the mate pull, you wouldn't be interested in me in the least. I’m clearly every bit the opposite of your type of girl.” “KYRIE!” My mother was shocked to hear what I was saying. “I’m sorry mom, but I think this is best for all of us. I, Kyrie Eliza Winters, of the Whiteriver pack, daughter of Alpha…” “STOP!” A fist hit the wall right above my head. “YOU WILL NOT REJECT ME.” “Fine then, you can reject me.” I couldn’t control myself. I was angry, hurt and sad. I knew I should stop, but that lack of filter in my mind wouldn’t let me. I was never defiant. I prided myself on being obedient. The good kid. Responsible and trustworthy. I tended to stay out of trouble, didn’t like confrontations and avoided them at all costs. Although sometimes I got myself into trouble by trying to not hurt anyone's feelings, or trying to do what was best for everyone. Eventually I learned I needed to just focus on what was best for me, and not worry about trying to make everyone else happy. “No one is going to be rejected today. I'm sorry you witnessed what you did. I apologize that it hurt you. I will be leaving now. I have to get back to my pack. I will be leaving my beta, Riley, with you. He will escort you and make sure you get to the pack safely.” “I don’t need an escort.” “Riley will be staying with you. I have a feeling if I don’t leave him, I won’t be seeing you any time soon.” He was probably right. As much as it would hurt me, if he left without me, I wouldn't be following along. He was smart to leave someone behind to make sure I would make the trip. “Fine.” I turned and ran out the door, shedding clothing as I went. As soon as I hit the porch I shifted to my wolf and took off towards the forest. “Are we doing the right thing?” I heard my mother say to my father as I left the house. “I sure hope so.” He replied. Natalie took control and ran the fastest I had ever seen her run before. I wasn’t slow by any means, but I definitely wasn’t the fastest in the pack. I felt like right now though, Nat could beat our fastest wolf by a long shot. Natalie was a beautiful, chocolate brown wolf with bright green eyes. She was strong and fit. We were leaner than most wolves, but we held our own just fine. She ran until she hit the Whiteriver lake. It was the lake our pack was named after. Tucked deep into the woods. Humans would come here to fish pretty often. Nat slowed as we approached the tree line. She scanned the lake, carefully looking for humans. It seemed to be empty today. I shifted back and quickly entered the lake. A good swim would help me calm down.
