Her breath hitched in her lungs and she stood frozen in front of the man she had abandoned, years ago.
Across the marble desk, Xavier Yamine sat motionless in his leather executive chair. The sunlight coming from the view behind him cast his razor-sharp jawline and broad shoulders in a dark silhouette.
"I see the file listed you as the CEO of House of Alessandra Corporation," Xavier said, his deep voice breaking the spell she was in.
Casually, he picked up the folder and leisurely flipped through the pages.
"Mr. Yamine," Alessandra managed, her voice trembling slightly before she forced it into a professional register. "Thank you for taking the time to review our proposal."
Xavier didn't look up from the pages. "A fascinating expansion plan. High growth metrics, impressive brand loyalty. But I noticed a curious gap in your corporate history." He slowly raised his eyes, fixing his gaze squarely on her face. "Around five years ago. A sudden, unexplained withdrawal from European operations. Tell me, Mrs. Cole... is it standard practice for your company to vanish overnight without notice, abandoning previous commitments the moment a more lucrative offer appears?"
The jab got her squarely.
Isabelle cleared her throat awkwardly, confused. "Mr. Yamine, if I may clarify the historical timeline—"
"I was asking the Chief Executive," Xavier snapped coldly, his gaze never leaving Alessandra's pale face.
Alessandra gripped the strap of her handbag until her knuckles turned white. "It was... an unavoidable restructuring, Mr. Yamine. Unforeseen circumstances forced a complete change of direction. It had nothing to do with lack of commitment."
A bitter curve touched the corner of Xavier's lips. "Unforeseen circumstances. How convenient."
He closed the folder with a sharp thud and leaned back in his chair.
"Nexus Co. is interested in the brand," he said. “However, an acquisition of this scale requires a specialized structure. I need a secondary, personal agreement established to ensure full alignment between both parties." He turned his head toward his Investment Director. "Escort Miss Gomez to the executive lounge. Provide her with refreshments while the legal details are reviewed."
Isabelle hesitated, glancing anxiously at Alessandra. "Alessandra?"
"It's alright, Isabelle," Alessandra said, her voice barely audible. "Go ahead."
The Director gestured politely toward the exit, and Isabelle reluctantly followed him out.
Now they were completely alone.
“Sit.” He ordered. She kicked herself to action and sat down in the chair before his desk.
The atmosphere in the room shifted instantly and Xavier stood up. His tall, imposing frame dominated the space as he walked slowly around the marble desk. He stopped just a few feet away from her, his presence suffocating her.
"Xavier..." Her voice cracked. "Please. Let me explain—"
"Explain?" Xavier cut her off. "What is there to explain, Alessandra? That I spent days searching every corner of Italy for you? That I thought you were dead?” He spat. “I almost lost my mind wondering if you had been taken or killed!"
He stepped closer, towering over her, the scent of his cologne wrapped around her with its agonizing memories.
"Imagine my absolute f*****g surprise when I turned on the news a month later and saw the heiress of the Grant family smiling beside her new billionaire husband. You left my bed in the middle of the night, left a cowardly note on my nightstand, and walked straight into another man's f*****g arms for wealth and status."
Tears pricked the backs of Alessandra's eyes. "That’s not what happened! I had no choice in the matter, Xavier!”
"You had a choice," he snapped coldly, his jaw clenching hard. "You chose them and you chose him. And now, five years later, when your golden cage breaks, you walk back into my life expecting me to throw you a lifeline?”
"I am begging you, Xavier. I have nowhere else to turn. I will do anything."
Xavier stared at her, her desperate words hanging in the tense air between them.
Anything.
A slow, terrifying smile crossed his dark features; it was so cold and predatory that it made a shudder run down her spine. "Anything?"
He turned back to his desk, picking up a crisp, silver-embossed document that had been sitting beside his laptop. He stepped back toward her, extending the papers in his hand. "Then sign this."
Alessandra took the document with trembling fingers. She flipped to the first page, her eyes scanning the bold, black print. As she read through the clauses, the blood drained entirely from her face, replaced by a sudden, burning flush of heat that rushed to her cheeks.
"This... this isn't a business agreement," she said as she read the explicit, humiliating terms printed on the parchment. "Submission... complete physical and personal compliance... mandatory residence... absolute obedience to the dominant authority..."
She lifted her head, her face burning red, her eyes wide with shock and humiliation. "What is this, Xavier? You want me to sign a contract that surrenders my body and my dignity to you? b**m stipulations? Are you insane?"
Xavier met her shocked gaze with cold, unyielding eyes. "Read section four, Mrs. Cole."
Alessandra’s eyes darted down the page to the financial allocation clause and she gasped.
Nexus Co. was offering double the capital she had originally requested. Two hundred million euros. It was an astronomical amount! Enough to clear HOA Corp's seed debt instantly, fund the entire European expansion, lift the quarantine on Silverpine Ranch, and completely destroy Roman's legal claims of financial instability in the custody trial. It was total salvation for her son, her legacy, and her family.
And the cost was her complete and utter surrender to him.
"You want to humiliate me," she breathed, tears finally spilling over her lashes and trailing down her flushed cheeks. "Is this some kind of punishment, huh? You want to tear away every piece of self-worth I have left."
"I want you to understand what surrender feels like," Xavier corrected her, stepping closer until his body was inches from hers. "You ruined my life without a second thought. Now, you get your money, you save your company, and let me ruin your f*****g life as well. Sounds more than fair to me.”
He gestured toward his desk. "Sign it, or walk out that door and don’t bother returning.”
Alessandra stood on the edge of the abyss. In her mind, she saw Roman's arrogant smile, her mother's desperate sobs at the ranch, and young Lucien's bright, innocent face.
She swallowed the lump in her throat, her pride shattering into a thousand jagged pieces.
Leaning forward to the polished black desk, she picked up a heavy Montblanc pen. Her hand trembled so badly but she forced her fingers to move, writing her signature across the bottom line: Alessandra Grant Cole.
She set the pen down, staring at her own name on the executioner's parchment.
Xavier stepped behind her, leaned in and picked up the signed contract. For a second she was engulfed by him entirely…his scent, the feel of his eyes on her…the hair on the back of her neck stood on ends.
“Good girl.”
He returned to his seat across from her then he reached into his suit jacket and pulled out a black keycard embossed with a gold residential crest. He dropped it onto the desk in front of her.
"Get rid of your assistant. Send her back to Georgia."
Alessandra blinked. "What?"
"You won't be needing her," Xavier instructed coldly. "Show this card to the reception at the address listed on the back. They will escort you to the private suite where you belong. You will wait for me there."
He smirked.
"Now get out of my office."
