The Duke's Daughter Thinks, "Do I Really Have to Do This?"

545 Words
The morning after Irene made the bet with the demon. Irene was riding in the carriage with a gloomy expression. "…Cain, do I really have to go to the academy dressed like this?" "Yes, of course," Cain replied with a smile. Irene glared at the smiling Cain with resentment. By the way, today her appearance was a complete transformation from yesterday's drill-like curled hair and heavy makeup. Her hair was down, and her face had a natural makeup look. Her usual gentle demeanor was back, making her seem like a completely different person from yesterday. Looking at her reflection in the carriage window, Irene sighed. (I never thought I’d have to go to the academy dressed like this…) * This morning, Irene was woken up by two maids. They helped her get dressed as usual, but then, "Oh? Where's the corset?" "Lord Cain said it's not necessary." It seemed Cain had decided that the corset was not needed. "But without it, I can't maintain my figure." "We're sorry, but there's nothing we can do. Please speak to Lord Cain." Resigned, she went to the dining room without the corset, only to find a wonderful sight. (Wow! This looks so delicious!) On the table were freshly baked croissants, freshly squeezed juice, hot soup, and fruit yogurt. Irene couldn't help but swallow. For a moment, she felt guilty about eating something that wasn't part of her beauty diet, but then she thought, (Well, it's part of the deal with Cain.) So she happily took a bite of the croissant. (It’s delicious! So crispy! I’d forgotten this kind of happiness!) Feeling satisfied, she continued eating. After filling her stomach, she returned to her room in a good mood, only to find Cain talking to the two maids. It seemed they were discussing makeup plans. "So, please do as I asked." "Yes! Leave it to us!" "You look wonderful today, Lord Cain." Seeing the maids with hearts in their eyes, Irene gave Cain a cold stare. Then, about thirty minutes later, the maids, who still had hearts in their eyes, finished doing Irene's makeup. "…Do I really have to go to the academy like this?" Unable to believe she would go to the academy with such light makeup, she ended up heading to the academy with Cain, feeling almost naked. Complaining to Cain in the carriage, "Oh, are you going to give up the bet? If you do, I’ll win by default." "I-I didn't say that!" Not wanting to lose by default, she reluctantly continued the bet. (This is so depressing…) Irene looked out of the carriage with a heavy heart. Not having the armor of makeup made her feel very insecure. Going to the academy dressed like this, she was sure she would be ridiculed by everyone. Cain, sitting across from her, praised her, saying, "You look very lovely," with a joyful expression, but all she could do was sigh. When they arrived at the academy gate and reached the drop-off point, Cain got out first. "Let's go, my lady." Cain cheerfully extended his hand, and with determination, Irene followed him out. At the drop-off point, many students were gathered, and naturally, their eyes turned to Cain and Irene. As Irene looked up, The drop-off point fell silent.
