FIRST DATE, FIRST STEP

574 Words
The evening was calm, the city lights flickering softly outside Aria’s window. She opened her apartment door, surprised to see Adrian standing there, holding a bouquet of peonies — her favorite. The petals were a delicate blush, almost glowing in the soft light of the hallway. “Adrian…” she breathed, touched by the gesture. He smiled, a mix of warmth and nervous excitement. “I remember you said peonies were your favorite,” he said gently. “Thought we’d start with something nice for our first proper date.” Her chest fluttered, a mix of joy and nervousness twisting inside her. “They’re beautiful… thank you.” He stepped closer, careful not to overwhelm her, but his hand brushed hers as he handed her the bouquet. “I just want tonight to be about us. No hospital chaos, no investigations, no past ghosts. Just you and me.” Aria’s grip on the flowers tightened, and for a moment, doubt flickered across her face. “I… I’m still scared, Adrian,” she admitted softly. “Of letting someone in, of… trusting again.” He cupped her face gently, his eyes locking with hers. “I know,” he whispered. “Mind if I come in?”he said softly Aria swallowed, heart racing. “Of course, oh I’m so sorry .” He stepped inside, taking a seat on the edge of her bed, careful not to crowd her. She sat close to him . He cupped her face gently, his eyes locking with hers. “I know,” he whispered. “And I’m not asking you to fix everything at once. I just want to be here. To make you feel safe, to make you feel… loved. Slowly. One step at a time. I’ll wait as long as you need.” Her lips trembled in a small smile, tears threatening to spill. “You’re… different,” she said. “You actually mean it.” “I do,” he murmured, brushing a soft kiss across her temple. “And tonight, let’s just enjoy each other. No walls, no fears. Just… us.” Few minutes later , They walked to a quiet little bistro nearby, the city buzzing softly around them. Adrian insisted on sitting across from her, but his eyes never left her face, reading every flicker of emotion, every hesitant smile. Dinner was simple, laughter light and easy, but between bites and shared glances, Aria felt something she hadn’t in a long time: safety. Comfort. And the thrill of allowing herself to feel again. Later, as they stepped outside into the cool evening air, Adrian paused, turning to her. “May I?” Before she could answer, he leaned in, capturing her lips in a soft, lingering kiss. Not as urgent as before, but full of promise — a kiss that said patience, understanding, and hope all at once. When they finally pulled apart, Aria rested her head against his chest for a brief moment, inhaling his scent, feeling his heartbeat sync with hers. “I… think I can do this,” she whispered. Adrian held her tighter, a grin tugging at his lips. “Good. Because I’m not going anywhere. And peonies are just the beginning.” Aria laughed softly, feeling warmth bloom inside her. For the first time in a long while, she felt ready — to heal, to trust, and to explore what was quietly, inevitably growing between them.
