Our breaths rushing in adrenaline
"Yuu...!"
Splash
Water bounced in the air as my best friend, Mikaela, fell down on a puddle sitting on the dirty ground.
We were running for our lives. Two six-year-olds who didn't know any better were running away from adults who wanted to destroy our innocence.
"Mika!" I shouted, looking at my blonde friend.
Mika grimaced in pain, looking at his leg, "Yuu... I think I sprained my leg."

How did a couple of kids get in this situation you ask? It all started out this afternoon when Mika and I were going for a walk.
The two of us had no parents, so going out by ourselves was normal. The only family we had were the kids back in the orphanage we belonged to.
While we were walking, a man about in his mid-twenties approached us. He had pale lavender hair tied in a ponytail, wearing a white suit and a haughty smile. I felt a little suspicious, but Mika seemed to know the guy because he talked to him.
The two exchanged words, and from what I caught on was that Mika had been meeting this man. His name was Ferid, and he was a rich businessman. I don't exactly know what they do when they meet... but Mika was spoiled by Ferid apparently.
"Mika-chan?" Ferid spoke with a mischievous voice as he looked at me, "Who's your friend?"
Mika replied with a smile, "That's Yuu. My best friend."
I narrowed my eyes at Ferid. Something about the guy seemed funny. He was suspicious no matter how much I looked at him.
"How about you boys come and join me for some ice cream? We can take a ride on my van~" Ferid giggled.
I frowned, annoyed at his tone, "No way-..."
Mika's hand slapped at my mouth, not letting my words escape. He gave out a laugh, "Of course. We'd be more than happy to, Mr. Ferid!"
Ferid's eyes sparkled with excitement as Mika said those words, "Such a good boy as always..." He gave a pat and caressed Mika's hair, "...my little Mika."
I cringed as I heard Ferid call my best friend his own. Somehow, it felt so wrong on so many levels. As if it were implying that Ferid had ownership over Mika. That he was Ferid's pet. His slave.
We both hopped in Ferid's van, and we were shocked at all the men inside with us. Ferid entered with grace, sitting beside Mika.
The atmosphere felt heavy, and I was uneasy for some reason. But I let slide because it seemed like Mika really wanted to go with this Ferid person.
At first, everything seemed a little okay because the van had passed by a road where there were many people. If we go down here, Mika and I would be able to get away. That's what I thought. But then, the van took a sudden turn, and it was there that Mika realized that something was up.
"Mr. Ferid?" Mika c****d his brow, "W-where exactly are we going?"
Mika was also restless, making my heart pound quick. I looked at the window outside. We were heading towards a factory... or something.
My eyes looked at Ferid. He gave out a manic laugh, "Mika... my little Mika."
Mika scowled, "What?! W-what are you planning to do with us?!"
Ferid snapped his fingers, and instantly, the men in the van tied us with ropes, covering our mouths and holding down our hands together.
We both tried to struggle, but it was useless. We were a bunch of powerless boys... so young. So naive. We got caught in a mess.
Ferid leaned towards Mika, smiling at him like a demon, "We'll be capturing naive little boys like you both, so we can force them to labor and slavery."
My eyes had shot open, tossing, turning and kicking to break free. It didn't work though, and it only annoyed the hell out of them. I got punched in the face so hard that I ended up getting greeted by sweet unconsciousness.
When my eyes opened, my mouth was no longer covered, and I was in some dark dirty room with Mika. Our bodies were free from ropes, but it looked like we were lock in a room.
"Yuu!" Mika approached me, a sad smile on his face. My brows slanted in worry, "Mika... where the heck are we?"
He shook his head and placed his palms on my shoulders, "I don't know, Yuu. But we'll definitely go out. Let's find a way to get out together."
I gave out a nod, "Yeah."
We both sat in silence, thinking of plans to do so we could find a way out. It made my head hurt a little because I was never good at making any plans. I was always the type to go straight ahead. Mika was a clever one though as he was able to make something up.
It was when we commenced our plan.
"Ahhhhh, hey mister!" I yelled at the man who was guarding the door against the other side. He gave out a groan, "Whadda ya want?"
"I'm hungry. Give me food!" I shouted loudly.
The man laughed at my comment, "Then stay hungry!"
I scoffed, "tch" I wanted to tell the man how much of an i***t he was, but Mika stopped me. We had other plans. We needed to escape. I let out a sigh, "Come on. We're gonna starve to death! What will your boss say if we die? You'll get fewer kids to enslave! Just a biscuit is fine, mister!"
Annoyed, the man groaned, "Gaaahhh. FINE. Hold your horses."
Click
The doorknob clicked, and both Mika and I were getting ready to get away.
When the man had come into the room, both of us hit him on the head, making him unconscious.
"Let's go, Yuu!" Mika said with energy. I nodded my head, and with adrenaline, we rushed to find the exit.
On the way, a few men woke up, and that's when Mika and I were being chased as we tried to escape.
So going back to what was happening earlier... Mika had sprained his leg.
"There they are!" The voices and footsteps of the men chasing us rang in my ears.
My chest pounded hard. They were getting close to us, and Mika was down on the ground, helpless. If I ran for it, I could escape. But that would mean that I would leave Mika behind. There was no in the hell way I would let that happen.
"Yuu! Run for it!" Mika screamed at me as tears formed in his eyes. I gritted my teeth at Mika's words. He was always the type to take all the weight, to give way, to sacrifice for me...
I ran to him, grabbed him by the arm and helped him up. "What are you doing?!" He scowled at me, "I told you to run, Yuu! You won't be able to move fast if--..."
"I am not leaving you behind!!" I returned his energy while I held him to walk together. "We're almost there, just hang in a bit more longer, Mika."
"Yuu..." Mika said weakly. I was desperately helping him walk, his arm hanging on my shoulders.
The exit was just a few breaths away. Once we could get out, we'd have to run as fast as we could, find the first person we see and ask for help. We were almost there... I could feel the freedom.
BANG
A bullet passed on our sides. One of the men had brought out his gun. Luckily, we weren't hit and flew at some barrel before us. The barrel had some kind of strong smelling liquid in it. Since the bullet had gone through it, a hole was made and the liquid poured out.
"Damn it... we have to hide or we'll die!" I cursed under my breath.
Bang
Bang
Bang
Bullets flew passed by us, hitting more barrels with the same strong scented liquid.
The men were getting closer to us now, and we weren't going any faster. At that rate, we were gonna be captured...
"The exit!" Mika announced. I gazed at the door. He was right. Our entrance to freedom was there. The door was just a few more steps.
We both did our best to hastened our pace. We were close.
Freedom.
Here we co-...
"Oh? My little Mika, where are you going?" A familiar voice came from the door.
It was Ferid.
My eyes shot open, and hope had just flown away like air.
"Tsk tsk" He had a sick grin on his face as he suddenly pushed me to the side and grabbed Mika by the jaw. I cried in pain as I fell on the ground, and Mika was lifted in the air, his legs dangling.
"And here I thought you were a good boy." Ferid tightened his grip on Mika's jaw, making him groan and whine.
I clenched my fists tight, standing up and then charging to Ferid. With all the strength I had, I pushed Ferid on the back, "LET GO OF MIKA!"
This made him stumble down, "Why you little!" He angrily said as he stood up again.
"Hurry, Yuu!!" We both looked at the door and saw a large staircase. I was ahead of Mika, so I took the first step.
I hesitated to rush because I was afraid to lose him. I don't want to lose Mika.
"Mika" I held onto his hand.
"Yuu?" He looked at me, surprised.
"We're family. You're my family." I said.
Mika's eyes sparkled for a moment, and water formed in them, "Y-yuu..." he nodded and smiled, "Yeah! Now let's get outta here!"
"Yeah!" I grinned.
Those words mattered to me at that moment. I had hoped that those words would live on with the two of us. I also hoped that those words moved Mika the way he had moved me.
My only family.
Mikaela Hyakuya.
"NOT SO FAST!"
Both Mika and I were shocked at the voice. Ferid. He had grabbed Mika from the back.
"MIKA!! Let him go!" I pulled Mika by the arm, but it was so difficult to get him towards me because of my size. Ferid was strong.
I struggled to pull Mika. "Yuu!!" Mika tried to escape as well.
Tack

More footsteps became clearer. It was the men from earlier. They were there.
Hope was lost.
We couldn't escape.
"Yuu..." Mika looked at me, tears suddenly rolling down from his eyes. He gave a soft smile. The kind of smile where it would hurt you for a lifetime knowing you would never get to see you again.
"We're family... okay?"
"Huh?" I looked at him wide-eyed.
"Now run and live!!!!" Mika shouted as loud as he could, pushing me down the stairs. I rolled downwards the long case and landed on the ground.
"M-Mika...." I gazed upon Mika who was being held by Ferid.
He took a lighter from his pocket and then threw it into the building. Suddenly, the whole upstairs was ablaze. The strong smelling liquid... it was gas.
Mika pushed Ferid to the inside, making the two of them tumble in. The fire grew larger, and tears began to stream down my cheeks. I stiffened at the scene.
Mika.
I remembered his words.
Run and live.
I stood up, trembling in fear, turning my back, and running as far away as I could.
