The sun was barely up when the first blush of dawn spilled across the mountaintop, painting the snow peaks in soft rose gold. I stood before the wide glass window of my chamber, fingers pressed against the cold pane, watching wisps of fog drift lazily between the fir trees. Today wasn’t like any other day.
