The palace was crowded, old men and women chattering, inquisitive youths and even youngsters where all there to see things for themselves. The palace was buzzing with unorganised conversation which the crowd yelled at each other.it was a day set aside for the witch-hunting and king Louis has given out the order that everyone should be at the palace. The council were all seated near the throne of the king. King Louis was sitting down on his golden throne with his three queens sitting at his left side while prince Carson sat at his right side as the heir to the throne. Prince Andrew and his family were sitting in the sections reserved for the royals alone along with Princess Moo and the other kings children. All those who had places to sit soon got seated while others stood in other to get a better view of what is about to happen. Princess Moo was feeling uneasy where she was sitting down then suddenly she ran to where king Louis was sitting. Father, can i seat on your legs she asked innocently? Being his favourite daughter the king always make sure to grant her request, Sure my dear daughter; he replied, helping her to seat on his legs, everybody knows the king has a special connection with princess Moo, she is a very intelligent child who know too much for her age, people often said it’s because she’s the child of the spirit. In the middle of the king palace a very huge circle was drawn, and in the centre of this huge circle were five haggard looking women. Two looked insane with eyes as wild as fire; two other looked terribly frightening, while one looked unruffled. Father, are those five women over there witches?’ Asked princess Moo We don know yet answer king Louis, that’s why we are here to find out. How are we going to do that?’ she asked. You just watch and see said king Louis. After a little pause, Princess Moo pushes her father’s knee gently to gain his a attention Father,’she said, I know who the witches are.’ Shut you mouth king Louis whispered fiercely.’ How do you know who the witches are? Are you a witch yourself? No,’ said princess Moo quietly,’but I feel there are three witches over there,’ Shut up! King Louis shook a finger at princess moo, if you do not shut up I shall call the maids to send you to your room immediately!’ Princess Moo saw how stern the expression on her fathers face was, and knew that if she did not shut up,’ he will send her back to her room like he said, father is not like mother in any way,she thought. One fears her so much that she will almost hold her breath if Princess Moo desired it, will the other will always made her do Princess Moo do exactly as he wanted.she knew her father’s new temper and his firmness, but she loved him all the same and always insisted on going sitting close to him.in his own way too, king Louis indulged princess Moo and often wanted to please her, but as far as discipline was concerned, he left no one out not even princess Moo who could faint at a mere wink of the eye. But in this palace with many people around Princess Moo knew that won’t bear to be disgraced by her fainting, so she swallowed her tears and sat quietly. King Louis saw she was prepared to to obey. He cleared his throat and wonder what type of girl he had for a daughter. The same princess moo has once, when she was only four years told the palace cook whose daughter was sick that the girl would die. Three days later, the cook came weeping to king Louis to tell him that his daughter princess Moo, was one of those witches who ate up her daughter, otherwise how did she know that that the girl will die? And it cost king Louis and Queen Agnes a lot of sweat to erase that type of stigma from Princess Moo’s name. Now she had started again. If any of those people there now overheard her, he thought and what she said turns out to be true, they will go with the impression that princess is a witch, no only that, they will also say that her mother Queen Agnes gave her the witchcraft,’ he sighed.and stood up to address the crowed Greetings my people said king Louis. We are here this morning to witness yet another fact finding ceremony, it was brought to our notice some time ago, that these women you see in the centre of the circle has taken the lives of illustrious sons. We have not yet believe that they have such powers to kill, but we shall soon see. This sudden meeting this morning is prompted by the sudden death of the beloved son of my friend Arthur At the mention of Arthur a murmur spread through the crowd and some of the women started to sniff. Arthur the man whose son died only three days ago, was seated with council, he was a grey haired man with a sunken cheeks. Weighed down by sorry, he looked like a hunch back, his neck dropped, his body trembled. Sam a young man who had only recently had his first son, had died from a snake bite. He had been bitten by snake while harvesting fruit at his backyard. It was unfortunate that he had not been able to kill the snake- the snake had disappeared before he felt the pain of the bite, before he knew he was vomiting. His father and others in the house had run to his help and he was taken home. On their way way home, the leg was baldly swollen and despite all they did to stop the swelling, by the time it was evening, Sam was speechless and breathing irregularly and painfully. He died before the sun rose. As soon as he was dead rumours went round that he was killed by Mary his father’s third wife who as yet, had no child of her own.
