Chapter 4 - Heat of Seduction
I sprang up to my feet, grabbed my coat and slipped hazardly into the pair of fancy slippers I had kept by the side of my door.
“s**t, s**t, s**t,” I kept swearing to myself as I noticed I wasn't wearing any underwear. “Ugh. . . f**k it.” I didn't bother getting my panties, I dragged up my skirt and zipped the sides before grabbing Leandro's suit and scurrying out of the bedroom.
How come Ben isn't back yet? I thought to myself as I looked around my surrounding. It was unlike him but under the circumstances, I couldn't care less because it was very fortuitous for me. Imagine what would have happened if he came back and saw a wet bed and me sleeping with a guy's suit in between my legs. Awkward.
I dropped the suit on a kitchen chair and quickly put on my coat, hoping that there was a chance the laundry hadn't yet closed. My stomach grumbled, and I suddenly remembered that I hadn't eaten anything since the morning.
“f**k,” I swore again as I stood frozen for a second, thinking of what to do next. I opened the freezer and took out the slice of pizza I had kept earlier. It tasted cold but it did its job, I kept the rest of it in the freezer, grabbed the suit and walked out of the house all in what felt like a blitz.
Out on the street, it was cold and windy and I was thankful the skirt I wore was quite fitted. There were so many cars driving by and so much honking and blaring.
I yelled for a cab, “Taxi! Taxi!” I noticed a few eyes turn around to look at who was calling for a taxi so loud, ignoring them I hopped into the first taxi that had stopped.
“You seem to be in a hurry ma'am,” the taxi driver said to me once I got into the vehicle.
“Yeah, I am, I definitely am,” I replied, “I gotta take this to the dry cleaners.”
“Where are we going?”
“Jeffery's Laundry,” I replied.
“The one by Carpenter Road?” he asked.
“Yeah, yeah, that one.”
I bumped forward as he began to drive, my legs were clenched uncomfortably and I was still trying to sit properly.
“You sure they gonna be open by this time?” the taxi driver asked.
“I don't know,” I replied, “But I've got my fingers crossed.” I gave a huge sigh of relief after I had finally comported myself and my legs were no longer clenched.
A few minutes later, we arrived at the laundry house and unfortunately for me, crossing my fingers didn’t make any difference, the laundry was closed.
“Darn it!” I swore and hit my leg at the back of the driver’s seat.
“Hey!” he said, “Take it easy back there.”
“I’m sorry,” I apologised, “I just. . . I really needed to –“
“You really need that suit drycleaned, don’t ya?”
“Yeah,” I replied with a bleary sigh, “I do.”
“Why don’t I just take you to the other one down the road then?” he offered, “I’m still gonna charge the same thing.”
“Mhm,” I didn’t have too much time to think about it and I didn’t have a choice either. “Alright, let’s do it.”
It was still dry cleaning, right? Leandro isn’t going to notice anything different. I kept thinking to myself in an effort to convince my conscience. It was very effective but I still had no choice.
He turned on his engine and drove me straight to the next drycleaners.
When I woke up the next morning, Ben wasn’t in bed, it was the first time I had woken up without him either being beside me or in the house. It felt weird but also very reposeful, having the entire house to myself without his repulsive figure walking around the house with his hands on his belly, cracking the most unfunny and annoying jokes.
Determined to leave an impression on Leandro that morning, I took a long shower and took even longer to make myself up. When I was all dressed up, I took a look at myself in the huge mirror in our bedroom. My reflection showed me myself in a white turtle neck elbow-sleeve top that had a zip from the neck to the chest, a yellow knee-length yoke skirt and a pair of cone heels covering my feet. I had my black hair hiding my left eye and the rest of it left to fall on my back. I felt confident, I felt like I was on a mission and I was going to completely nail it.
Then I remembered about Leandro’s suit and I got a bit nervous. I couldn’t let go of the silent thought in the back of my mind that he would notice the difference, maybe in the smell or the style of ironing or whatever. I had to risk it, there was nothing else I could do. I grabbed his suit and bounced out of the apartment.

I loved walking into the gigantic office room, especially when I felt confident in what I was wearing. I just knew that everyone was looking at me through the glass walls of their various offices and the feeling was unsurpassed. I felt especially confident in myself that morning not just because I was dressing as hot as I could but also because I had Leandro’s suit with me. I walked to my office as my co-workers all smiled, waved and greeted me as I passed their various offices.
“Valerie?” I turned around and Indira Senghal, the prettiest lady in the headquarters – some would say – was standing behind me.
“Hey, Indira,” I said to her, “How’re you doing?”
“I’m great,” she replied with one of her perfect dimpled smiles that always made me jealous. “Is that Boss’s suit?” she asked, pointing to the suit with the coffee mug in her hand.
“Oh yeah,” I replied, “It is.”
Indira’s smile suddenly changed from perfect and dimpled to nervous and anxious.
“Oh, really?” she said, “How’d you get it?”
I rolled my eyes and chortled for a few seconds. “Come on, Indie,” I said to her. “It’s not what you’re thinking. I’m his secretary, he called me in yesterday and asked that I should have this suit prepared for him by today.”
”Oh,” she raised her eyebrows, “That’s not as juicy a story as I expected it to be.” We both laughed.
“What is it to you anyway?” I asked playfully after we were done laughing, “Do you like have a crush on him or something?”
Indira’s lips curled into a tiny blush and it was a blush that I recognised. That face, the way she moved her eyes to avoid eye contact and how she sucked her lips in – that was the face I made whenever I was asked about Leandro. That was the face I made when Leandro smiled back at me the other day. Did Indira like him? Was she another woman just like me who was in love with Leandro? I frowned unintentionally.
“I mean, how could you not-” she was saying before we all heard Kovacic yell once again.
“Boss is coming!”
We all scurried into our different offices, running around like we had just heard gunfire.
“You look great today, Valerie.” I heard Franco say to me as I walked past his office.
“Thanks,” I replied with a smile and slid into my office just in time to see the door open. I unzip my top a bit more down to my chest level and arranged my boobs to look more presentable even though they were already quite big. Alright, I thought to myself, Come on in, Leandro.
Chastity Barracks walked into the office first and he followed shortly after. Why did he always have to bring her here. I facepalmed before calming myself and relaxing on my chair as I noticed them approaching.
As usual, the greetings rolled in as he walked past each person’s office, he nodded his head to each of them as he sucked on his cigar.
“Good morning, sir,” I greeted him. And also, as usual, he stopped walking - that always made me feel special - being the one he always stopped walking for whenever he was greeted. Yes, I know was his secretary.
“Maddox,” he replied, “Do you have my suit ready?”
“Yes sir,” I replied, “Do you wanna take it with you now?”
He took a puff of his cigar and exhaled. “No, bring it in after coffee.”
“Alright, sir.”
I nervously looked at him as he turned around and started walking away. Meanwhile, Chastity was once again giving me the meanest of looks. I smiled edgily and greeted her, “Good morning, Miss Barracks.”
As I expected, she didn’t reply but settled with eyeing me and following behind Leandro as he walked into his office.
A few minutes after I had served him his usual donut and coffee and Leandro had told me to get him his suit.
“s**t!” I swore as I walked out of his office.
“What’s wrong?” Perla asked me, she was sitting in my office, legs crossed and - wait, what was she doing in my office anyway.
“Yesterday, Leandro told me to get this suit drycleaned for him at Jefferey’s,” I replied to her as I picked up the suit.
“Yeah, it looks drycleaned.”
“I didn’t dry clean it at Jeffery’s.”
“What?” Perla exclaimed, “Why the f**k not?”
“Cause I lost track of time, Perla,” I replied, “I was tired when I got home and I was. . . busy, so I took a nap after and woke up super late and you know how early Jefferey’s close.”
“That’s because they’re the most expensive dry cleaners in the city, Valerie.”
“I know, I know, I know,” I dug my hands into my hair and groaned. “What do you think, Perla, you think he’s gonna notice?”
“I don’t know,” she shrugged, “I don’t know if he will, it’s his suit, a man knows his suit.”
“f**k,” I slapped my thighs with my hands, “I’m just gonna give it to him, there’s nothing else I can do. I mean, what’s the worse that could happen?”
“Ugh. . . you could get fired?”
“Perla!”
“I’m sorry, I'm just saying.”
I stood, looking at the suit for a few seconds before grabbing it and flouncing out of the office, there was nothing else to do.
“You got this!” I heard Perla yell behind me.
