Chapter 2 - Aftermath of Seduction
I slammed my door clamorously as I walked into my office, knowing fully well that the gawking, prying eyes of my co-workers would be lingering at my direction. I looked back at them through my glass walls and shrugged.
“What?” I asked.
They all turned back to whatever they had been doing before I had slammed my door.
I sighed and brushed my hands through my hair. Maybe I was overdoing my part, Chastity was his fiancée and she had a right to be jealous or feel threatened. The only problem was that I wasn't sure if I really cared about that, it didn't matter to me that they were engaged. I wanted him so bad, more than I have ever wanted anything.
Why would I not go for him? Because a blonde white popular model was in my way? Possibly, but it wasn't going to stop me. No.
“What was that all about?”
I snapped out of my thoughts and looked at where the voice came from - my door. Perla approached me with a curious and apprehensive look on her face.
“Are you alright?” she asked.
“Yeah,” I replied with a sigh, “It's just Leandro's fiancée.”
“You mean our boss's wife-to-be?” Perla sat on the guest chair that was directly opposite me.
I looked at her and frowned, “Don't start. . . don't be like that.”
“Don't be like what?” she shrugged, “That's who she is.”
“I know, I just don't need you reminding me every two minutes.”
“Well, I feel like you should be reminded, Val,” Perla said, “You're testing dangerous waters here, I mean. . . he's our boss and he's already engaged.”
“I know, I know.”
“So why won't you just forget about him?”
I looked at her after she had asked the question, unsure whether it was ignorance or blindness that led her not to see what I saw. How could she not be as crazy as I was for him, how could she ask me such a question?
I couldn't just forget about him because he was him. He was Leandro de la Vega and he was the man that was moulded straight out of my wet dreams and my lustful imaginations. There was no way I was ever going to forget about him.
“Cause I can't,” was my reply.
“Babe. . .” Perla chortled, “Why not?”
What doesn't she understand?
“Perla, I can't forget about him because he's — ”
I was interrupted by a knock on my door. Looking out my glass wall, I could see Franco waving at me with an enthusiastic smile on his face. He opened my door and walked into the office.
From the corner of my eye, I caught Chastity walking out of the premises.
“She's leaving?” I asked Franco.
“Yeah, I think she and the boss had a little misunderstanding or something yunno. . . typical relationship stuff,” Franco replied with a smile.
“Mhm, I see.”
“Oh and Valerie?”
“Yeah?”
“Boss wants to see you.”
I felt my eyes glisten up with surprise when Franco said the words.
“He does?” I asked, “Why?”
“He didn't say,” he replied with a shrug.
“Oh, okay.” I got up from my seat and adjusted my chair, giving Perla a smile that meant 'Wish me good luck.'
“Perla,” Franco acknowledged her and followed me out of my office.
“Looking dazzling as always, Valerie.”
“You think so?” I asked him with a nervous smile as we were both out of my office and within a few a few steps from Leandro's.
“f**k, yeah,” he responded, “If I was a magnet and you were a paper clip, do you know what I would have said to you?”
I blushed and rolled my eyes, “No Franco, tell me.”
“I would have said ‘You are very attractive, paper clip.’ ”
I burst out in laughter, “Okay, I liked that one.”
“You did?”
“Yeah, totally. Thanks so much.”
Franco stopped smiling and licked his lips as he looked at me. “I am being serious though.”
I smirked. “Frank?”
“Mhm?”
“You do know I'm in a relationship, right?” I asked him playfully.
“Yeah, yeah,” he responded, “With that Benjamin guy?”
“His name is Benjamin Walters.”
“Okay,” he shrugged and licked on his lips again but nervously this time, “I was just saying. . . I'm always here, whenever you're ready.”
He slowly walked backwards before turning around and scurrying to his office.
I giggled for a second and then my brain quickly remembered what was going on.
Leandro wanted to see me. . . ???? ???? I thought. He was my boss and I was his secretary, why was I making it a big deal that he wanted to see me?
Stop overreacting, I thought to myself and then slowly, only after a few deep breaths, dusting of skirts and loosening of buttons, I finally opened his office door.
He was putting on his reading glasses with what seemed like a magazine in his hand, he didn't even notice I had walked into the room.
“Sir, you wanted to see me?” I asked loudly, trying to get his attention.
“You didn't knock,” he replied without taking his eyes off the magazine.
“Oh, I'm sorry, sir,” I quickly apologized, “I'll go back and. . . do it all—"
“There's no need for that, Maddox,” he dropped the magazine and took off the glasses, “You're already here, might just get to it.”
I walked closer to his desk, making sure my cleavages were visible enough. “Get to what?” I asked.
Looking up at me, he chose not to say anything in reply for a moment before he smirked numbly and said, “I'm about to show you.”
He hadn't even looked at my cleavages yet.
“So I'm leaving the office to get some things done behind the scenes for my wedding,” he announced as he picked up the timetable I had given to him earlier. "I'm going to need you to cancel my meetings today and postpone the rest, such as uhm. . . my meeting with David Baltimore, you should postpone that one.”
I couldn't believe he was doing it again, leaving the office to go pay more attention to Chastity Barracks and also giving me a lot more workload in the process.
“Uhm. . . sir, there are a lot of jam-packed meetings that I had postponed yesterday and the day before that and there's even more that has been cancelled,” I reported, “I don't know if I can. . . I mean, I don't think it's possible to fix a new date for some of these meetings.”
As I spoke, I felt my leg weaken. Leandro was looking at me with the coldest, most unconcerned glare I had ever seen.
“I think there's been a misunderstanding, Maddox,” he said, “You seem to confuse me with someone who cares about. . . whatever it was you just said now.”
“Oh,” I quickly exclaimed as I felt my hands tremble and my heart drop into my stomach. “I'm sorry, sir.”
“I don't care,” he replied as he got up from his seat, “I pay you to do it so you do it. Understood?”
I bit my lip and nodded my head in concurrence because I was scared that anything I said would piss him off even more. He walked to his mirror and adjusted his tie and cufflinks and then started to leave the office.
I was just about to let out a deep sigh of relief when I heard his footsteps stop.
“And I do remember now,” I heard him say.
I turned around to face him, forcing a smile to show how calm I was pretending to be in the situation.
“Remember what sir," I asked.
“I have a suit here, I'm taking it to the meeting tomorrow with me and I need you to take it to the laundry for me,” he took out a gray suit that was in his office wardrobe and handed it to me. “Can you do that for me?”
I raised my eyebrows. “Yes, yes of course. I can.”
Anything for you, Leandro.
He nodded his head, “Good,” he said. I watched him as he dug both his hands back into his pockets and walked out of the office.
“Jeffery's Laundry only, Maddox!” he reminded me before he left.
I remained standing there, unaware of my surrounding for a few seconds.
Everything that had happened all happened so fast and there I was, with Leandro's suit in my arms.
- Leandro's suit!
I hugged the suit tightly. His scent - it was on it, as strong as though it was him I was hugging at that moment. I sniffed on the tux and closed my eyes as I digested the enchanting redolence that the entire suit was soaked in.
What was I going to do? I was running completely mad because of this man.
