CHAPTER 49: A Tie That'll Always Exist. STELLA I wiped the dust off her picture. I didn't cry—I only stared at her smile. I stared at the little mole on the side of her cheek—the same one she'd always hated before she'd died. It was the same mole she'd complained she was going to book a doctor's appointment to take it off. I smiled instead. No. I wouldn't cry. I promised her I wouldn't. Her smile remained beautiful, even in death. I desperately wished that she'd be in paradise because that was the only place she deserved to be. For a second, I imagined how beautiful she'd be, smiling again. I dabbed the dust off the frame. I wasn't going to cry or spend the whole day. “Valerie, if you're probably watching me," I almost broke my promise but I held back. I smiled instead.
