Chapter 1: How It Started

989 Words
It was a very cold and quiet night. The stars and the moon were shining brightly that you can see your way. "Look dad, it's a meteor shower!", shouts a boy as he points up to the sky. His father goes to him and lifts him up and they look at the sky together. As they were watching the beautiful meteor shower, an earthquake occured. The father and his son hid under a sturdy table and waited. After a few seconds, the earthquake stopped and the phone began to rang. "Ash, wait for me here okay? I will just go and answer that.", says the father and goes to the phone. The little boys name is Ash. He is a 14 year old boy. He is cute and smart but he was weak and shy. He lives with his father. Her mother died not long ago because of an accident. He has no siblings. And he is really not very sociable so he has no friends. He was homeschooled for he was shy to go to school. But, he was living a happy life. "Okay. I'll be there in twenty minutes.", says the father and he puts down the phone. "Are you going somewhere dad?" "Yeah. It seems like the cause of the earthquake was a meteor that fell at the Sahara Dessert. And they asked the police to go and investigate it", explained his father. "Oh. But when will you come back?", Ash asked. "Maybe after three days.", says his dad while changing to his uniform. "Be good okay? Eat in time. I promise I will come back as soon as we finish." "Okay dad. Be safe." The father kisses Ash in the forehead and then leaves. After that, Ash went to bed. ---------------------------------- Arnold/ Ash's Father's P.O.V. "I'm here!", I shout as I get out of my car. I reached the location where the meteor landed. We were very far from it and it was still dark so I can't see it clearly. There were also scientists at the scene. "You're late Captain.", Felix said as he comes to meet me. He is a very trusted friend of mine. He is also my partner in solving many cases. "So, how are things around here?" "Well, we were waiting for you to arrive. Where's your little boy? Didn't bring him this time?" "Nope. I can't allow my child to go hanging around something from outer space. It might have aliens in it." We both laughed. I went to one of the scientists to ask if it was okay to approach the thing. The scientists said they don't know for it was their first time encountering this type of rock. "Well, are there any weird creatures there like aliens or something?" "Oh come on Captain are you scared they might jump at you?", said Felix as he and my other team mates laugh. I just suffered the embarrassment. It's not that I am scared. It's just being cautious. The scientist said, "So far, there were no life detected from it. But I advise you to take out your guns to be safe." "You heard him. Take out your guns and prepare. We're going near it." I asked the scientist if they were coming as well. He said it was only him and an assistant were. We then started walking to it. We were quite far from it so it took some time for us to have a clearer look. We were almost almost I think half a kilometer from it when I noticed my gun didn't have bullets. "Hey guys, got any extra bullets?" "Sorry Captain, don't have any." Urg! That means I have to go back and get some. I hurriedly ran back to my car and loaded my gun and got some extra just in case. When I was supposed to go back, I saw the other scientists having a commotion. "Is there any problem?", I asked. "None sir. It's just that... look at this." The scientist showed me the video of the meteor. The video was being taken by a drone. As I look at it thoroughly, it was as though it was smoking. "It's dissolving and turning into gas.", said the scientist. "How did that happen?" "We also don't know. It's the first time we see something like this." As we were going through the video, my walkie talkies started to talk. "CAPTAIN! *coughs* Cap....tain! *coughs*". The person talking through the walkie talkies was Felix. He sounded like he couldn't breathe. I panicked and I ran to them while answering back. "Felix! *cut*. Felix this is Captain answer back! *cut* Felix god damnit! *cut*." I met the scientist and Marcos running back, very tired and huffing so much. "What happened?!", I shouted. "The meteor started turning into a black gas. When those people inhaled it, they started to breathe difficultly. And then they coughed blood and died.", said the scientist. Wait, what? Died? My eyes widened as I heard that word. It can't be. It's not true! "FELIX!", I tried to run to them but Marcos held me down. "Let go of me! Felix! No, he is not dead!" The scientist told me I shouldn't go there because if I do, I might inhale the gas and die as well. I still struggled and tried to go to them until Marcos said it. "Keep it together Captain! Do you want Ash to become an orphan?!" When He said those words, my mind went blank. No, I don't want him to become an orphan but my best friend is... "I already checked their pulse, they are dead", continued Marcos. I calmed down and then sat up. "Sorry.", was all I could say. We hurriedly went back to the meeting site and packed our things. I called the office and told them what happened. This is not going to be any good. ~to be continued~
