“Thanks for stopping by, big brother. And I'm glad the ritual went well with Skylar.” Nick pulled his sunglasses on. “I'm damn glad, too. I was a bit scared, to tell the truth.” “I would be, too. So now to Vicenzo's?” “I gotta go see how he's recuperating. My mate and I have a date after.” Liam raised an eyebrow. “A date, uh? Sounds nice, but are you sure it's safe considering what has happened so far?” “We cannot let fear do things for us, Liam. Come on, Skylar.” Skylar hugged her sister and stuck out her tongue at Liam. He laughed. “We might stop by on our way coming,” Nick informed. “Alright. You guys have fun.” **** Everybody stood up and bowed as Nick and Skylar entered. “Looking well, I must say, Vicenzo,” Nick said to the ill man as he raised a hand to signal to the other three Alphas, Lunas, present to sit. Nick sat, Skylar beside him. “How do you do?” “Quite on the mend, my Alpha.” The man was laying on a sofa. Vicenzo's Luna whispered something into Skylar's ear. She shrugged, kissed Nick's cheek, and stood up, following the woman away from the room. A few minutes later, Nick felt a sudden shift in the air in the room. He frowned slightly, intrigued, then paused suddenly. The faces in front of him contorted into shapes and he felt his heart slam against his chest. “Where is she? What have you done to her?” One of the Alphas stood up and barked a harsh laugh. “You should be more concerned about your safety, Nick.” Nick glanced out the opened door, hoping the guard who came with them was still standing. “He's gone,” another of the Alpha said, “You might as well forget about him.” His heart squeezed. Vicenzo still laying down, laughed at the look of wretchedness on Nick's face. “Oh, no, we won't fight you. We're not foolish to do that but for any trouble that comes from your side, your mate will pay.” Nick felt his head swim. He couldn't focus. It was like she was dead like she hadn't been. He couldn't get a shard of connection from her. The bond - “Nothing will aid you in finding her. You'll suffer like no wolf has ever done before, ” one said bitterly. Those threats were not empty, Nick knew. His heart clenched painfully and he struggled up, almost dropping to his knees in the process. They jeered and laughed. Clutching his heart, he staggered outside, his head pounding.
