Chapter 18.

261 Words
The silence that ensued was earsplitting. No one moved. No one said a word. Until Sapphire. “What?” “Deaf?” asked the witch. “No!” she protested. “You can't have him.” “Then watch your sister die, chit.” came the response. Nick's head was bowed, an image of defeat. “What do you say, Nicolas Ryder? Your pretty baby brother for your mate.” “No.” “No, you say? I won't use him too much. Just a lay or two. I wonder if he'll be as good as you.” “You can't have him,” Sapphire repeated angrily through her teeth, her fists clenched. “Then make a choice. Your sister or your mate?” “You f*****g b***h. I don't care how powerful you are or how far you will run but I swear on my very last drop of blood that I'll make you pay.” “Oh, the cat's got some very sharp teeth. How about we knock some off?” As she spoke, she swung her staff, hitting Sapphire smack on the face. Sapphire swore, doubled back up, and struck with her fist. Chaos ensued. “Nick!” Liam called. But Nick had sprung up, his sights on Skylar. As he made his way towards her, Liam created a diversion. Bits of stones and dirt now swirled around the witches. Taken aback by the suddeness of it, they seemed helpless. When he saw Nick safely pull Skylar into his arms, he pulled Sapphire into a hug and disappeared.
