Chapter 6.

Skylar hated the fact that she needed that bull-headed i***t. She had threatened, begged, threatened again but all to no avail. He taunted her, teased her but he did no more than that. "I'm kinda feeling threatened right now, Skylar." "What on earth do you mean!?" She cried, exasperated. "You might drug me one day and take advantage of me. I'm pretty worried. I think I should call someone just in case. I mean, you can't force a man to have s*x with you when he's not willing. I need to call, Liam." He moved to pass. She countered the movement. "Skylar. Goddess, don't let's play cat and rat." She gritted her teeth in frustration at him. How was he doing it? How was he able to not feel, while she was here burning, yearning for his touch? How could she hate him and still find him so gorgeous and fine and delicious? She almost moaned. "Nick?" "Yes, ma'am?" "How are you not- not-" "Not falling at the sight of you?" he asked slyly. "Well, yes. You can call it that." "Not wanting to f**k you the moment I see you?" "You don't have to make it-" "Not wanting to get lost in your papaya even though I can smell your arousal from a mile away? Well, it's like this..." "Your powers?" "Dear me, no. Self control is what separates us, Skylar. But to be fair, you're doing pretty well for a newbie." "I'll pay you." Nick looked aghast. "s*x for pay? I wouldn't do that, thank you. People look up to me, y'know." "Why are you doing this?" He leaned down to look her in the eye, winking. "I'm not doing anything. We just don't like each other." Skylar burst into tears and rushed at him with her fists. "You brute! You monster! You devil son!" **** Sapphire sighed as Liam pulled her close to him. "Was that a nice sigh or a bad one?" She buried her face in his chest and mumbled something. Liam rumbled silently with laughter. "I couldn't hear you, bambina." "A contented sigh. It was a contented sigh." This time around, he smiled and almost wept for joy at the sight of her, then said something to her. Sapphire looked up at him. "What does that mean?" "It means I'm glad I found you. And it's Italian." "You speak Italian?" "Yeah. My Mom was Italian." She kept quiet, then said quietly, "I'm glad we found each other." Silence reigned companionably and comfortably as they both watched the rain pour from outside the open window. Sapphire snuggled deeper into his warm body, almost purring like a cat. Liam decided to tease her. "This isn't the girl who ran the first time we met." Sapphire hit him gently. "Hey." Then she acquiesced. "I know. I'm glad I didn't get too far." Liam kissed her hair. "Hey, do you think Skylar and the Alpha are doing well?" "The Alpha? It's just Nick." "It's hard to imagine him as 'just Nick'." "What exactly do you guys think he's all about?" "Well, for one, the mate thing." "What's the mate thing?" "People say that he's had a lot of mates in the past but he kills them when he later finds out they're not his true mate." Liam burst into laughter. "True mate? Baby, Nick has ever only had one mate and that's your sister. True, his journey to finding a mate was a little more difficult than it was for others. There were a few close calls but they never amounted to anything. " "Why was it difficult for him, though?" "Because he's different. Nick is not like any other person. He's like a dozen Alphas rolled into one. And besides..." "Besides what?" "It's a little complicated to explain right now but don't worry, babe, Nick is not going to abandon your sister for any other." "I was pretty worried." Liam kissed her hair again."Don't be. And, damn, Nick needs a better P.R." Sapphire giggled, shut her eyes and let his scent wash over her.
