Chapter 10.

"Are you truly okay?" Nick asked Skylar when they later got home. "I'm fine. It was just a little scary." "What was scary? That girl you almost killed?" "And she later got away. Imagine that." "She'll show up again. Sooner rather than later." Skylar sighed. Then looked up at him, "How about you? Are you okay?" "I'm fine, Wild Child." He lay on the bed and pulled her on top of him. "What are you thinking?" she asked. "You," he answered without lying. She had surprised him - the way she had taken charge. True, she was his mate and automatically she would be stronger and more authoritative but it seemed she had had all of these before on her own. The perfect mate, she was. "What is it?" she asked. Gently, he pulled her off him and sat up on the bed. "Remember the tattoo, Skylar?" She was piqued at his serious tone. "Yeah. You said it would be a more intricate process for me." He nodded and took her hand unconsciously. "For that to happen we need to be bonded." "But - but, we already did that." He faced her and smiled, squeezing her hand. "Heart at rest, Wild Child. We just need to make it more official. " "How do we do this?" "Witches. There's a ceremony we need to partake in with their help. They do the bonding." He felt the quiver in her hand. "Why do we need this?" "Because I need you, Skylar. Because I am a Blood Alpha and what it takes to bind others to their mates does not apply to me. Remember the minloc leaf?" She nodded. "Us going through this might be a bit tough on you. So I wanted to wait to see if we can tolerate each other enough to go through the process. It would mean death if we just went through it without making sure.” She gaped at him. "It's a Blood Bond, Skylar. Words fail me on how to describe it." She raised an eyebrow. "You're usually an orator." "Don't be smart. You know how you felt the days before you and I had s*x?" "I don't want to go through that again." Nick nodded. "Multiply that feeling by a hundred." "So now we can - tolerate each other?” she asked. Nick took her hand. "You might find it hard to believe but I find myself constantly thinking of your flowing dark hair and your cloudy blue eyes and your -" She hit him with a pillow. "Stop!" Nick laughed. "And how about you? Constantly thinking about me?" She ducked her head and he laughed again before turning serious. "And the attack today. I have to teach a few lessons," he said, thinking about how Liam had narrowly avoided being hit. He shuddered. "Is Alpha Vincenzo going to be okay? His injury was really bad." "He'll be fine." "What are you going to do?" Skylar asked him. "They're doing a pretty good job of hiding. But today's attack means that they're more ready than ever. I have witches assigned to every pack now. As soon as they get a whiff of dark powers from any corner, they'll know what to do." "It's going to be crazy from here on out, won't it?" "Maybe just slightly." And he pulled her on top of him again.
